Among the other terrible news that came down the pike last week, CB reported on Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s breast cancer. All we really know is that Julia found out the day after the Emmys. Our hope, of course, is that she caught it early and that her prognosis is good. We also know that Julia took the opportunity to make a statement about healthcare. Her point was that she had all the support she needed to fight this and that a diagnosis would be all the more terrifying without any healthcare options. It was admirable, selfless and another example of famous people having to politicize their own misfortune to speak up for those who can’t.
It didn’t take long for people to reach out to Julia, which I don’t think is a surprise. She is both admired and well-liked in Hollywood and beyond. CB included Hillary Clinton’s response to Julia as well as Christina Applegate’s, which came very soon after then news posted. Since then, of course, Julia has been flooded with support and well-wishes.
@OfficialJLD so sorry you have to go thru this, pal, but I know you will prevail. We are here if/when you need and we love you. ❤️🌈

Julia is one of the most talented, most giving, most empathetic people that I’ve had the pleasure to meet. That she takes this news and turns it to help others is of no surprise. Get well, Boss. We love you. #fuckcancer https://t.co/3NTr31nKmz

And those are just a handful of the famous people reaching out to Julia. Many non-famous people also responded. There was so much support that Julia’s son, musician Henry Hall, was moved to tweet a note of thanks:
I couldn't be more thankful for the outpouring of support for my mom yesterday. Here's a picture of us taken last year. Love to you all. pic.twitter.com/Kd2QrE4Qb4

This got to me on a few levels. First, by how much it must of meant to Julia’s family to see the wellspring of love for her. I’ll bet Henry needed this show of affection as much as she did. Second, obviously a sense of humor runs through the whole family and that makes me happy. Third, I was on a flight to Chicago with the Hall/Louis-Dreyfuses about 15 years ago, Henry must have been about 10 and his brother Charles was about 5. So, in my mind, he is still 10 and it took me a while to reconcile that he’d decided to age in the two decades since I’d handed him his dropped pencil back (he was polite then too, btw).
Although Julia has thanked everyone in a statement previously, Henry’s tweet moved her to reiterate how grateful she was:
I'm thankful, too. And also thankful for my dear boy with good manners. https://t.co/l8qH7Sgwvj

I wish nothing but good things for Julia and her family. I hope the outpouring has provided some comfort to them. I appreciate her making this deeply personal time about more than just her health but the health of everyone. As both she and her co-star Timothy Simons said above: F—k cancer.

Take that curse!
That picture of her with Biden is everything! I truly think she’s such a class act and so talented. I hope she beats this thing!
I love her. I hope she does great & kicks cancer’s ass.
Fuck cancer!!
Team Julia!
F*ck cancer indeed.
Okay, I’m going to be that person …
It’s must have (or must’ve) not must of.
I adore her. I hope this is a tiny blip on her screen and she recovers well and quickly.
