After over 20 years working on stage and screen, Debra Messing has received a star on Hollywood’s legendary Walk of Fame on Friday. Debra, looking radiant in a vintage lacy gold dress, was honored by Will and Grace co-creator, Max Mutchnik, and her BFF, Mariska Hargitay.
Upon receiving her star (the 2,620th on the walk), Debra recalled her first visit to Hollywood with her parents, remembering “we went to Universal Studios and Grauman’s Chinese Theater. The Wizard of Oz was my favorite movie and I couldn’t believe that [I] was able to put my hand in Judy Garland’s hand print. It felt like I had touched her.” And, showcasing the humor we all know and love, she joked “I smiled all the way back to Rhode Island where my brother and I played Gilligan’s Island in the forest behind our house. I always played Ginger because I knew someday I’d be a natural redhead.”
Showing that comic chops seems to run in the family, Debra’s 13-year-old son, Roman Walker Zelman, joined his mom for a photo op that recreated Mariah Carey’s immortalized-by-meme 2015 Walk of Fame ceremony. And, in addition to Mariska, Debra’s other famous friends, Connie Britton (Rayna 4-eva) and Sophia Bush were on hand, posing for photos and sharing warm wishes on social media.
Rayna, I mean Connie (I miss her on Nashville so much), shared a group shot with the caption “What joy to see Debra Messing get her star on Hollywood Blvd today!! Always remember to never forget to dream your dreams…✨🌟.” Mariska, who is quite fond of hashtags, posted a photo with the caption, “#Congrats #GoldenBeauty #BrightLight #BrilliantStar @therealdebramessing. #ThankYou for letting me be part of this #WellDeservedHonor. You #AlwaysShowUp #AlwaysShine #GratefulForYou #SquadGoals.”
Sophia, in a heartfelt Instagram post, called Debra “an angel in the city of angels” and declared:
She has paved the way, through art, for people to see into worlds that are different than their own. She has opened hearts and minds, reminding us that we are all more alike than different, and made us laugh all the while. She has been a fearless champion for the less fortunate, the LGBTQ community, and those affected by HIV/AIDS. She is a triple threat, multiplied countless times over.”
Of course, Debra’a Will and Grace family were there to help her celebrate. Co-stars Eric McCormack and Megan Mullally were also on hand for the ceremony. Sean Hayes apparently missed out due to ill health. Debra posted a photo of the trio with the caption, “These two- my brother & sister, my husband & wife- my family. They are everything to me. Just miss my Seanie who, sadly, has been under the weather. Feel better soon!”
I’m happy Debra got her star. She’s a good actress – and it’s to bad we couldn’t have seen more of her on Smash (never forget). Reading a recent interview, I found myself liking Debra even more. In a Variety profile (a great read if you’re a fan), she said, “I grew up watching I Love Lucy and Carol Burnett and Madeline Kahn and Mary Tyler Moore. These women really shaped me.” These are my comedy idols as well, Say what you want about Debra, but she’s got good damn taste in muses.

What a treat this post is! I am sick of hearing about Donald Trump’s horrible deeds, which he does almost on a daily basis. So hearing about Debra Messing is quite refreshing. I love the new Will and Grace series and I am so looking forward to enjoying episode after episode for the next few years. Every single lady on the pictures look gorgeous too.
I meannnnnn….you have to buy those. That was my first thought. My second was that, hypocritically, I was super excited when Lin-Manuel Miranda said he was getting a star. And my third thought was that I heard many diva stories about Debra Messing.
But my fourth was that she shaded Megyn Kelly.
I AM SO CONFLICTED. But I’m okay with it, because of the Megyn Kelly shade.
Messing may be a good comedic actress and a good person as well, but Walk of Fame material? Come on. Although with 2000+ of those things, I guess they’re pretty much available to anyone who’s got the cash.
So many beautiful ladies!
I loved her in The Starter Wife!
It’s not a huge honour, she had to buy it .
I love her dress! And the funny/cute pose with her son.
Love her and all her lovely girlfriends! So happy for her.
So how much does a ‘star’ cost?
