Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden are reportedly looking into adoption

Cameron Diaz has kind of been off the radar (apparently by choice) as of late, unless your holiday movie viewing has included a screening of The Holiday. She and her hubby of almost three years, Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden, recently made headlines when they sued a remodeling firm who botched improvements on the couple’s home. Cameron and Benji may also need to include a nursery in any home refurbishment plans, as they are looking to expand their family through adoption.

Cameron, 45, and Benji, 38, “have decided to try adoption and have started the process,” the source exclusively reveals. “They want to adopt from within the U.S. and are counting the days. Cameron is very hopeful. Though they are so fulfilled in every way, they feel this would complete their family.”

“Cameron feels like the timing is right,” the source continues. “She’s been asking friends about adoption and reading parenting books. It’s taking time and they have been so patient, but they are both bursting with excitement.”

They have the same vision for their growing family. “Cameron and Benji would love a newborn and have both agreed they want a boy, but they of course will be happy with any healthy baby,” the insider adds.

[From Life & Style]

I think that after almost three years of marriage (their anniversary is on January 5), these two are ready to open their home to a new life. They seem to really love each other, and would be great parents, especially if they’re already doing all of the leg work. I wish them all the best. Oh, and don’t watch The Holiday if you’re looking for a Christmas movie fix. If you want a somewhat non-conventional holiday comedy, I highly recommend Just Friends with Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart. You’re welcome.

They are an odd pair but I love that they’ve made it work and seem genuinely happy from what we’ve seen or heard of them.
I hope this works out for them!

  2. Rachel says:

Cameron spent her entire career saying she would never marry…wrong and she never wanted children…wrong again. She has done everything she preached she would not do.

    • Alexis says:

I think it is human nature to sometimes make liars of ourselves. That is how she felt at that time, but life and your perception can change depending on circumstances and as life moves forward.

    • L84Tea says:

What, she’s not allowed to change her mind about anything??

    • Misti says:

Actually Diaz had hinted in many interviews that she did want a family, flat out stating how much she envied her sister Cheyennne’s family.
In some Esquire interview she gave years back also reiterated that she would like a family.

I think her shooting it down could have been justified irritation of being constantly asked on it and the inference that her life was meaningless without it.

IMO, she was very open to it but was not obsessed buy it. As in ‘if it happens, it happens’.

I will always believe she wanted to marry and have kids with Justin Timberlake and he broke her.

    • island_girl says:

She’s changing and evolving and has found a happy balance in her life. Its all growth.

    • Valiantly Varnished says:

So what? She’s allowed to grow and change her mind. And her stating that she didn’t want to marry doesn’t constitute “preaching”. She was stating her own opinion about her own life – which she is entitled to do. And she’s also entitled to change said opinion.

    • QueenB says:

      Yes, hang her!

    • Molly says:

She don’t owe fans or the interviewer the truth about ANYTHING– most especially her wishes for a husband or children.

    • Lisa Giametti says:

      And…………????

  3. Jayna says:

As far as a Christmas movie fix, I still love The Family Man with Nicholas Cage and Tea Leoni. I usually watch it every other year.

  4. TyrantDestroyed says:

Congrats to both of them and hoping they start the new year with a new family member.
My forever holiday movie will be “When Harry met Sally”.

  5. KP says:

After having a health scare with my son while pregnant, I’ve really grown to hate the “any baby that’s healthy” phrase people use all the time. Like sorry, we wouldn’t love or want an unhealthy baby. It’s really rude and absurd and close minded. Don’t get me wrong, OF COURSE, we all want our babies to be healthy! But seriously, is it going to be difficult to love and care for if it’s not? Do only healthy babies need adopted? I’d think unhealthy babies could benefit the most from a wealthy adopter.

    • Wooley says:

Some people find out at their anatomy scan that the baby has spina bfidia or a different health issue that won’t make it viable to term, or they have to consider the quality of life if it did and make a difficult decision. How is it close minded to say they want a healthy baby?

    • Jp says:

The phrase is not about you please don’t take it personal. It is what it is.

    • Marianne says:

I agree with you. A parent loves their child. Even if the child isn’t healthy. And you make a good point that all children deserve loving parents. All of them.

  6. anna222 says:

It’s not that I hate The Holiday, it’s just that I’m booked solid watching Elf and Love Actually every single day.

    • JennyJenny says:

ELF!!! That movie is just so much fun. My children and I quote lines from it all during December.
      “What’s your favorite color?” 🎄

  7. island_girl says:

I am determined to be like Cam and get myself a younger man. I’m happy for her and her happiness with her husband.

  8. K-Peace says:

I love this couple for some reason. I’m glad that Cameron found someone who makes her happy, and seems to love her as much as she loves him. I wish them the best of luck. My husband & I are also in our 40s and are (if all goes well) adding to our family too. I recently found out I’m pregnant; I’m 41 so it was a big surprise. Hoping all goes well for us, and for Cam & Benji with their adoption process.

  9. Maria S says:

I’m still disgusted by her behavior on the Graham Norton Show when, while discussing the importance of women keeping their pubic hair, buried her hand in British actor, Richard Ayoade’s afro without warning or permission. If you don’t understand the significance of this…

  10. Plantpal says:

Taking your recommendation seriously, I just purchase a DVD called ‘Just Friends’ with Ryan Reynolds and …..Amy Smart. I couldn’t find a movie with the same name, with Ryan Reynolds and Anna Farris. I should get this tomorrow, and will enjoy watching it over the holidays.

  11. Erinn says:

They’re hands-down one of my favorite celebrity couples. My 16 year old self loved Good Charlotte.

Everytime I’ve heard Benji in an interview he’s come off as a solid guy. He adores his neice and nephew and I’ve heard him talk so fondly of them. And he’s spoken very highly of Cam too – which makes me happy. From what I’ve heard it’s never come off as superficial, or forced – he just seems like a genuinely happy guy and a great uncle. They’re not a pair I would have ever predicted – but they seem to be great together.

I think the fact that they’re an unexpected pairing is probably working in their favor. They both seem pretty grounded in their personal lives, and like they’re on the same page. There’s nothing over the top of contrived about their relationship, and it’s nice to see that they’re looking to adopt.

  12. Valiantly Varnished says:

Amy Smart is Ryan’s costar in Just Friends. Not Anna Faris.

    • Tiffany says:

But Anna Faris is in the film and her part is pretty killer. I mean Amy Smart has 2nd billing, but Anna Faris is who everyone remembers.

  13. Katie says:

So what is a remodeling firm? Architecture? Interior Design? Construction? Seriously this term does not exist. Also, says they finished work in October 2016 – you have one year from completion to point out faulty work and require it to be redone. Guessing they are suing because there was a disagreement on what the cause of the faulty work was and therefore who is responsible for it. And finally, $500k is a very low budget for the work they described having done in the tmz article.

  14. Huh says:

Kill me now but if true, I find the excitement over (lets be real) only a boy- correction, there are 3 conditions! – only a (1) healthy (2) newborn (3) boy – deeply facking entitled and obnoxious. And while I like her, it’s also a LOT to go from 10, 15 YEARS of interviews being just too special or “independent” to marry, to that and possible kids. And I’ll say it, and I can as someone around Diaz’s age who knows how hard it can be: the bravest broad around on this topic is Elizabeth Banks talking about surrogacy. I’d bet near anything Diaz’s lifestyle and health books were also tied to a personal schedule of attaining a pregnancy, and it’s not yet happened. Which would be horrible but human in a way that expedited, money-slicked celebrity adoptions aren’t. Sorry, not at all sorry.

    • JG says:

Agreeing with you here, completely. I’ve just never cared for her.

    • luna says:

Yes. newborn wanted and definitely expected. Healthy — surely an unhealthy child would not fit into our healthy home. And how could they possibly manage the extra time and maybe extra money a slight disability could cost. And the odd “counting the days”: have they been approved by an agency already or not? Too many “wants” and not enough information. Either being stupid or just very private (So why announce anything?)

  15. meh says:

Sigh. I thought she was childfree. That’s too bad.

  16. jayem says:

She looks like Ellen Barkin in that last picture!
