Can I just say? The default of so many media outlets and gossip outlets has been to refer to Jack Antonoff as “Lena Dunham’s Ex” in their headlines and main coverage. That’s usually the kind of thing that happens to women – instead of being referred to by name, the reference is “so-and-so’s wife/girlfriend/ex.” A little bit of dumb equality, I suppose. It’s also sort of insulting, because Jack is pretty famous in the music industry. He’s well-liked and well-respected as a producer and musician and he has his own profile.
Anyway, Lena Dunham’s Ex stirred some controversy last week. Jack and Lena broke up at some point, probably in December. They only announced it when Lena needed to change the subject when she was being criticized for literally doing a drop-by at a #MeToo event. Lena has been trying to seem sympathetic, and reportedly the breakup was exhausting (just like Lena). And several outlets claimed that Jack moved on really quickly and he was already dating someone in the music industry. Many people believed that someone was none other than Lorde. Well, Jack wants you to know something:

In any case… denial or no denial, I think Lorde is around here somewhere. Maybe they’re not officially dating yet, but I guarantee that something has happened or will happen.

Lena looks like a real pill of a person.
I feel comfortable saying that this is and will remain the most hipster comment in the celebrity world for the rest of 2018. I also think that heteronormative is one word. But what do I know.
It is!! It is one word! That annoyed me so much. It just strikes me as kind of similar to Lena’s comment about “western” relationships – these are phrases they have heard and thought, oh that sounds smart.

I saw Bleachers live at a festival-type thing with lots of bands. They was definitely an outlier in terms of genre, with most of the other bands being more 90s-alt-rocky. Most of the audience was there for the other acts – Bleachers still aren’t particularly huge, and they definitely weren’t then.
Jack Antonoff spent their entire set complaining about the audience. It was bananas. I was there to see them specifically and was so excited, and his behavior totally ruined me on the band. He was SUCH a dick, saying things like “Uh, guys, we’ve played Paris….Tokyo….New York….you don’t have to match that energy, but you could at least TRY” for the entire set, very often pausing in the middle of songs to berate the crowd. It was wildly egotistical, extremely douchey, and pretty shitty to the actual fans who were there to support Bleachers!! I do NOT hold Jack Antonoff in high esteem after that.

I thought the same thing. He isn’t trying to set the record straight about him and Lena, but protect Lorde. I was willing to believe nothing is going on because Lords is OTT about literally everyone she admires, but this is Streisanding me big-time!

I mean, it’s being reported that the end of Jack & Lena’s relationship was drawn out and that they took forever to break up – but I get the impression that Lena did not know her relationship was ending. Just a feeling. Well, that and the fact that Lena, per Instagram, was still gushing over this guy in late October. Hm. I think Jack & Lorde are totally happening. If not Jack & Lorde, then Jack and somebody! I also think that cheating occurred. I have zero evidence to support any of this.
Ugh why must they turn everything into political thing? Dude, you’re a celebrity, you dated a celebrity and are hanging out with other celebrity shortly after, tabloids will do what they do. This rumor in particular is kind of dumb, but it’s not hetero normative, is just people trying to create drama and sell magazines. Whether we like it or not, people are seen as heterosexual by default unless they say otherwise (recent statistic in the US show that 4% identify as LGBT, I’m sure it’s more than that but I don’t think it’s more than 10% yet). Let’s not pretend it’s just because of “hetero normative” reasons.
