Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock got facials made from cloned foreskin

Celebrities do some outrageous beauty treatments. We’ve been through leech facials (no, just no), the “V-steam” (again, nope) and the Vampire Facelift (eww) and now, we can add the “penis facial” to the list of WTF personal care treatments.

You expect this kind of crazy from, say, Gwyneth Paltrow or Kim Kardashian, but the actresses who got this are Cate Blanchett and Miss Congeniality herself, Sandra Bullock. Cate, speaking with Vogue Australia, said that she and her Oceans 8 co-star tried the unconventional facial at a Big Apple spa. She recalled, “Sandy [Sandra] Bullock and I saw this facialist in New York, Georgia Louise, and she gives what we call the penis facial and it’s something – I don’t know what it is, or whether it’s just cause it smells a bit like sperm – there’s some enzyme in it so Sandy refers to it as the penis facial.”

PEOPLE got to the bottom of this phenomenon, getting the details of the treatment from the esthetician herself. It’s actually called the Hollywood EGF Facial and the bulk of it is pretty much what you’d expect from any other high-end spa – chemical peels, micro needling and an electrifying mask (I’m assuming there are high end spas that do this, right?) The X factor in the mix is the “growth factor serum” and it doesn’t come from a plant.

According to Georgia’s website the serum, Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), is derived “from the progenitor cells of the human fibroblast taken from Korean newborn baby foreskin.” What? Even I’m going to read that last line again. Yep, cloned baby foreskins. Now I’ve heard it all. Of course, this isn’t Georgia’s first foray into icky town, recalling, “I remember the time when I used placenta from a pig on a client that was vegan and that didn’t end so well.” Egad.

Oh, and, believe it or not, this isn’t the first product to use foreskins in the name of anti-aging. Oprah Winfrey has endorsed an anti-aging product from Skinmedica. The line’s TNS Recovery Complex contains Tissue Nutrient Solution, which is derived from, you guessed it, foreskin cells. Apparently anti-circumcision activists are not fond of these products. A Canadian group went after Oprah back in 2013 for promoting the product.

While I’m glad that these ladies are looking at other options aside from cosmetic surgery, this is just too bizarre. (And side note, Cate is 48 and Sandra is 53 and they both look amazing. I’m sure they have some other, more normal tools in their beauty arsenals.) I don’t care if it works, it’s just a little too out there for me. But, hey, if you have $650 to spare (and two years to wait), you too can treat yourself to a penis facial. I’ll just stick with my Oil of Olay if it’s all the same to you.

EGF is in quite a lot of skincare these days.

  2. DesertReal says:

    They put…
Cells cloned from Korean baby d**ks…
    …On their face.

    No words.

    • TwoPac says:

Maybe an income cap is coming down the pipes because it’s just GROSE beyond destruction that people die from thirst whilst wealthy women pay millions in a lifetime for sperm facials. I’m going to be ill.

    • hmmm says:

This is what happens when excessive vanity and excessive money collide- excessive desperation. Their plastic surgery and botox weren’t enough?

  3. Mrs. G says:

    Yeah no thank you lol

  4. RBC says:

Sounds like a SNL skit. Instead of d**k in a box, you can now get d**k in a jar.
Yes, the world has gone crazy

    • DesertReal says:

I cannot stop laughing at this.
Cloned Korean baby d**ks! Can you pick your d**k? If not, is it because that is the most choice foreskin?
Logically, I know it’s most likely due to their industry being less regulated than ours…but that’s just hilarious.
Even if you were the one who discovered this rapidly regenerating cell, wouldn’t you be like, “Hmm…I wonder if I can find this in other places as well?” Or were they just like…”Nope, just bottle this s**t up. That’s goin’ on my face!” Lmfao

    • QueenB says:

      Yeah. Also “penis facial”…

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Exactly. My brain is spewing from all the could-be SNL skits…I have tears from laughing so hard (or South Korean soft). D*ck in a jar called Spooge.

  5. Una says:

I never tried it myself but I have heard from some people that sperm is good for your skin. Foreskin though, specifically Korean baby foreskin?? I don’t know…

  6. sunnydeereynolds says:

If those two close up photos are their latest, I’m pretty sure they did more than penis facials! Kate’s face looks tight and pulled while Sandy has been slightly looking like a different person.

    • Astrid says:

      ….and shiny…they don’t look that natural

    • boredblond says:

Bullock at the Oscar’s-definitely some work done..I had hoped she would actually be the lone holdout to accept that she can’t play/look 30 forever, but I was wrong

    • Pickles and Cheese says:

Oh Cate — your chipmunk cheeks are uneven.

  7. deets says:

Eh. I put snail goo on my face. Won’t judge this.

  8. Aang says:

Why Korean specifically? That’s my question.

    • DesertReal says:

Yes! Like that’s so oddly specific!
I’m sure it’s amazing, but if I’m gonna have some d**k on my face… I’d like to pick it, you know?
It’s the small things that count.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I’m pretty sure the EU for example wouldn’t allow this sh*t.

I can’t with these skincare trends. EGF scares me. I don’t want my cells to grow randomly. I’m no fan of the snail mucus thing either. I know it’s been super popular in certain Asian markets for a long time but I just can’t. I’m trying to stay away from animal products in skincare and animal testing so I will NOT entertain the idea of BABY FORESKIN!

    • Skoochy says:

Tinder in Korea just exploded with profile updates of men offering ‘anti-ageing services’.

The whole thing just makes me uncomfortable (I think not rubbing infant genitals on your face in any capacity is just a good rule of thumb, what can I say? I’m old fashioned) but the specific nationality is particularly irksome. It kinda reads like they’re being targeted and exploited?

    • KBB says:

I read something about how South Korea leads the world in stem cell banking. There’s a whole stem cell industry that they either created or are leading the way in.

  9. Alexandria says:

Yea I’ll want what Mariah Carey is having. Her skin is gorgeous.

  10. Who ARE these people? says:

Finally a lucrative sideline for moyels.

  11. Y says:

LMFAO!!! I just can’t!!!! I have too many X rated jokes for this. Personally, I’d just have my hubby x,y,z on my face for freeeeeee 😂😂😂

  12. Maya says:

I want Angelina Jolie’s and Marion Cotillard’s flawless glowing skin.

    Release those beauty secrets ladies…

    • JG says:

Saw AJ up close many years ago (around the time she got together with Brad). Her skin was neither flawless nor glowing. It did make me feel better, actually. Still very beautiful.

      • LetItGooo says:

        Sorry @JG

I call bs. I saw Angelina up close at the Toronto Film Festival twice, once when she was around 31-32, and again when she was around 36. Her skin was creamy perfection, much like most people who have a chance to get up on her in person echo.

So you saying she wasn’t glowing and flawless at even younger 28 or 29 (when she “got together with Brad” you claim) seems off. I suppose she could have had a PMS breakout or been sick, but my impression is that her skin is super nice – and many many people say same.

In fact, I recall this popular Audio Visual home theater guy who had a column online and in a major mag, would put together this list of stars who had ‘The Best Skin in HD’ (back when HD was a relatively new thing) and it was funny because he ranked Angelina as #1 in HD, and he joked that Brad and Jennifer really did belong together because they had two of the worst skin textures in HD.

He said Brad was pockmarled, and Jen had rough skin and big pores. Lol He had no skin in the game either, pardon the pun, was just a popular AV dude among other dudes.

  13. Lizzie says:

i would bathe in korean foreskin to look like sandra bullock at 53.

    • Slowsnow says:

I personally think she looks like Michael Jackson honestly.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

Her face has been pulled tight though. She looks great but you can see the procedures when the camera does a close-up.

    • Kitten says:

IDK I think she still looks pretty amazing. Sure, she’s had work done and has overdone it with the Botox at times but I still think she’s a gorgeous woman and so is Cate. They both have great skin and great bone structure. which certainly helps.

      • Lizzie says:

that’s what i’m saying!!!!! she’s in great shape, she obviously takes amazing care of herself. of course she’s had work but its good work. i was mostly commenting on her skin – which – is empircally good. both of these women look amazing.

  14. Midigo says:

I don’t like to judge actors if they fall for any untested, unproofed, outrageously expensive new beauty procedure. If I had to face digital HD cameras, HD projectors and enlargers and public scrutiny on daily basis I probably would feel the pressure to do the same. But jeez, this sounds atrocious…

  15. Slowsnow says:

This is why I am really enjoying Altered Carbon and wish I had the time to read the books. With all its flaws, I find the series really interesting as to what all this science is leading us to.
This is just a particularly stupid and probably not as effective as it should be considering the price (but only surgery performs “miracles”) example but there are so many ways this kind of science can go.

  16. manta says:

    “I don’t care if it works ”
But that’s precisely the problem here, it doesn’t . These two ladies, Bullock particularly , look shiny and plastic, nothing aspiring.
I suspect when you’re loaded and decided to cling to your youth, any charlatan can sell you any trend.

  17. Zapp Brannigan says:

$650 and a two year waiting list? If I want a di*k on my face I could just go to the bar on any Friday or Saturday night, no waiting list and a free drink included!

  18. Lucy says:

All I know is I need Ocean’s Eight to come out, like, yesterday!!!

  19. QueenB says:

This is a joke, right? You cant tell me they are seriously rubbing baby foreskin on their faces while talking about penis facials? This is a parody of anti aging methods.

  20. GreenQueen says:

Maybe my reaction is different because I’m a burn trauma nurse and I work with skin and healing in a very intimate matter. When you are in a state of desperation, granted my patients are in extreme house fires or have tens (where a bacterial infection causes your skin to slough off everywhere and you have to do vaginal stretchers, the whole 9 yards), you will do anything, ANYTHING, to look better. We use shark skin, cadaver skin, pig skin, you name it. Patients quickly stop caring about how “gross” they thought something was when we tell them what it can do for their healing.

People, they are using fibroblasts for these facials. Whereas, we use surgically modified sheets of actua skin in my work, these are just fibroblasts, we are talking on the cellular level. There aren’t baby d’s on anyone’s faces!

At 30 years old I get monthly facials (and have been doing so for years) and microdermabrasions, I am unique in this among my friend group. I think of it as prophylactic, but again, the nature of my work and the level of education behind it is likely a large contributor to this. In short, I don’t think this is weird – cost/risk vs benefit analysis on this, particularly when compared with the same analysis for surgical procedures makes this a lot more rational of a choice in my opinion.

    • Slowsnow says:

@GreenQueen, thanks for you perspective on this. However, you are talking about regenerative treatments of people who are disfigured, who are on an extreme level of need.
Believing that this kind of method makes you look younger or more beautiful is what I take issue with. And we are all playfully suggesting that there are other means to achieve these results that do not take extremes measures.
My policy: extreme measures for extreme problems (such as the ones you point at) / homemade and affordable creams for beauty care. That’s all.

      • DesertReal says:

        You’re right, green.
Your reaction is different, because the first thing that came to mind, are the life threatening and disfiguring burns you deal with on a daily basis.
I have no qualms with facials (home spun or otherwise). Regardless of the level of education one has- the fact that people are combating the passing of time… by smearing cells cloned… from the foreskin… of Korean baby d is hilarious.
        That’s all.

    • Kitten says:

Your post was really interesting and thanks for the detailed information. Also, thanks for all that you do. I’m sure it’s rewarding at times but speaking for myself, it would be so hard to see people suffering so greatly every day. Thank goodness for people of strong constitution such as yourself ♥

    • magnoliarose says:

Interesting perspective. Korean Beauty lines use ingredients that seem outlandish, but I have to say my skin has never looked better.

I second what kitten said. People like you are gifts. Thank you for doing what many of us couldn’t. 🙂

  21. Adrien says:

Vampire facial has no eww factor. The plasma the doctors inject comes from your own blood. The procedure is similar to stem cells. It totally does rejuvenate the skin. Now call me if they have invented a non invasive procedure to rejuvenate our necks. Sometimes I think that double chin is a blessing.

  22. Egot says:

Its sad. Baby boys should not have their foreskins removed to clone in the first place. Leave their damn penis alone.

  23. Grant says:

I love, love, love the two of them so I won’t fault them for this.

  24. Suzanne says:

Gives new meaning to the term DICKHEAD!

  25. crazydaisy says:

My opinion of Cate Blanchett just plummeted, I’m sorry to say. And why KOREAN baby boys, specifically? Is that not just too weird? What the hell is going on? OMG *freaking*

  26. phatypopo says:

This sort of technology is more and more common in skin care, and really works … what’s weird to me is that they needed to specify that it’s from Korean baby penises…. DO WE NEED TO KNOW?

  27. Trashaddict says:

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

  28. mkyarwood says:

Jesus, ladies, time to step out of Versailles for awhile.

  29. Jag says:

Permanently disfigure a baby to get a skin treatment? No thank you.

I try to buy cruelty-free makeup, so why would my skin care hurt babies? I’ll pass.

  30. TheOriginalMe says:

Dunno. Neither look beautiful to me. Sharon Stone on the other hand… I need to be doing whatever she’s doing… and Iman… and La Binoche. Now these are some beautiful women who are aging with style.

  31. Chef Grace says:

    What happened to aging gracefully?
I just use EVOO under my eyes and Oil of Olay on the rest. But I am not in Hollywood.

  32. Jaded says:

Good God….I have no words. I’ll stick with my Neutrogena products…I’m 65 and hardly have any wrinkles.

  33. Carbella says:

All this and they still look their age. Don’t get me wrong, they look great, but no better than any regular woman their age who takes care of herself. It’s absolutely ridiculous, I hate the way we waste and consume in this world. We are all guilty but it is getting a little insane and quite sickening
