Does Angelina Jolie want to be president?

Angelina Jolie films Salt in NYC

This is such bullsh-t, but I could resist. Britain’s Daily Express (story via Showbiz Spy) has a source claiming that Angelina Jolie is “tired” of being an actress and wants to try her hand at something more meaningful – politics. They aren’t actually claiming that Angelina is about to drop everything and start running for Congress, just that this particular source “would place a huge wager on her becoming the first female president within the next 20 years.” Move over, Hillary Clinton and your bionic Team Aniston elbow. Angelina and her bionic babies are going to take the White House!

Could Angelina Jolie be on the verge of quitting Hollywood?

The actress — who raises six children with partner Brad Pitt — is apparently growing tired of making movies, and is keen to get into politics.

“Angelina has admitted she’s getting bored with Hollywood,” a source told Britain’s Daily Express newspaper. “She said she’s now got her sights set on Washington.

“She is passionate about people’s rights, war and justice and thinks she can get more hands-on and make even more of a difference by getting into politics. She admires President Barack Obama and thinks she could make a big difference too if she were in his position.”

“I would place a huge wager on her becoming the first female president within the next 20 years,” the source added. “When Angelina sets her mind on something, she goes all out to do it.

“She’s very determined and gets very stirred by her UN work. She is well respected for her humanitarian work and I’m sure she would make as many waves if she moved fully into the political world.”

[From The Daily Express via Showbiz Spy]

I don’t doubt that Angelina does care quite a bit about “people’s rights, war and justice” but I still don’t think she’ll ever run for office. All of the “She’s an Uncool Homewrecker” signs would come out, and Angelina won’t put herself in that position. I don’t even know what political party Angelina is – and I actually pay attention to her political/humanitarian statements. I’ve said it before, but sometimes Angelina sounds like a neoconservative. The way she sometimes talks about how America should get more involved in other countries humanitarian crises – well, she’s like Paul Wolfowitz in a St. John suit. I’m just saying, she’s my girl and everything, but I don’t want her in charge of the country.

On an added and less ridiculous note, Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari actually called Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie recently to thank them for their $1 million dollar donation to Pakistani refugees. Zardari is the widower of Benazir Bhutto, and he took over the presidency in September 2008. Since taking office, many parts of Pakistan have descended into violence and chaos through both Taliban militia actions, and Pakistan‘s anti-Taliban military operations – leaving millions of refugees in the wake. This is why Angelina and Brad donated money to the Pakistani refugees, and why Angelina spent so much time talking about Pakistan in her CNN interview.

    I am confused.
You claim to like her, to support her efforts, the things she says, but if she is indeed a neoconservative, than your previous support is naught?

You know I’m not a fan, but at least her supporters need to be consistent.

  2. Annie says:

    I call bullshit.

She has way too much baggage and the country will tear her up even further. You know how the parties love to destroy each other.

I mean, look at what they’re doing to Obama lol. And the man’s a Harvard law grad etc etc.

Angie doesn’t have anything to back her up other than her humanitarian work.

  3. Praise St. Angie! says:

    SERIOUSLY doubt it.

the woman may be tired of acting, but I doubt running for elected office is the next thing on her list.

I’m betting, if anything, she’d increase her humanitarian work.

  4. Annie says:

You don’t have to support everything a person does Ned.

I don’t agree with my sister’s excessive partying, but I’m not going to turn away from her.

It’s not black and white and it doesn’t have to be.

You can disagree with someone and still support them.

    You should try that sometime…

  5. dee says:

    Please stop the craziness….

  6. javelin says:

I wouldn’t put a dalliance into politics past her– she is quite ambitious, grows tired of her lifestyles after awhile, and has a healthy ego (plus compassion for others) in place.

Would she run for office? Doubtful, but I could see her accepting an appointed post someday.

  7. Anna says:

@ Annie: I agree that this is most likely BS. However, not being a Harvard grad didn’t stop Arnie from becoming governor. And in my opinion, he had waaaaay less to back him up than Angelina does.

  8. thepoop says:

you need to be educated to be in politics. there’s no point discussing it either way because this is a profession that is closed to her.

  9. wow says:

Neeeever gonna happen. Palin, Hilary or heck even Oprah, would be elected as the first woman President before Angelina.

    Please.

  10. Rosalee says:

Anna: unfortunately her past does bar her from entering the political fray. AJ has admitted past drug use, mental health issues, her past relationships and comments (ie: Billy Bob and the limo) she could not pass the disclosure test. You and a few more individuals who are regular posters may believe Jolie can walk on water and fart potpourri – she has done a great deal for humanitarian issues but her past behaviour would be continuously questioned.

  11. Trillion says:

She’ll probably be an ambassador someday, that would be my guess.
Who the hell would want to be p.o.t.u.s.?

  12. someone says:

She could never run for office and actually win..it would be a joke!

  13. Zoe (The Other One) says:

I will be President before she is. Fact.

  14. wfdfsg says:

i highly doubt this, but if you think of it- if she actually DID run, she’d probably get a lot of support.

  15. Anna says:

Rosalee: I never said that I believed she was planning this or even stood a chance. As for the disclosure test, have you seen some of her interviews? She is extremely open about all the s**t she was up to in her past. The problem is that her answers could never be palatable to actual voters in this real world of ours. But that’s beside the point, being completely hypothetical. I was merely observing that if Arnold Schwarzenegger, an ex-bodybuilder, actor, adulterer and originally not US born man could make governor, then certainly Angelina had a whole lot more than that going for her (mainly given her humanitarian work). I am far from thinking she is perfect, I don’t know what gave you that idea. I certainly don’t think that my comment warranted such a harsh, bordering on crude, comment on your part though.

  16. whatever says:

Oh, pleeeeze! WHo comes up with this crap? Stop with the tabloid speculation already.

  17. Ned says:

Arnold has no education, had at least 3 cases of women claiming he sexually harassed them (wonder how it went away…) and had a porn stint when he was young.

I am sorry. There are many things I do not like about her, but please be consistent.

Annie, excessive partying does not equal being a political affiliation.

IF you have supported her political and social endeavors in the past, her statements, her travels, her suggestions- and you have, then it’s pretty weird that now, you would find that route to be wrong.

The hypocrisy levels here might turn me into a brangeloonie. Beware.

  18. morgs says:

Would Jesus then be her Vice President?

  19. sunnysunday says:

    OMG morgs….that was funny.

i doubt that she will even be given an appointed office….the admitted mental illness (she admitted herself into a mental hospital) will never let her get past the first tests.

  20. boo says:

I was going to say “don’t you have to go to college to be pres?”, but look at Bush and he went to an Ivy so nevermind……

  21. BlueSkies says:

This is a British tabloid writing this drivel. They will dream up anything. They are like children.

  22. Annie says:

Ok fine. Let’s make this more simple:

You can like a person and not agree with their political affiliation. I have friends that are extremely conservative, think global warming is fake and hates Obama, but I still consider them my friends because they’re good people. Good people who respect my beliefs as I theirs.

And since when you can “be a political affiliation” you can HAVE one, but you can’t be one. It doesn’t make up who you are.

And why would it be wrong or hypocritical to like that she helps third world countries, but not think that she should be the POTUS? That’s not hypocritical. It’s called having a varying opinion on a case by case basis.

I mean, I like my political views and endeavors, but I don’t think I should be POTUS. Am I a hypocrite about myself? Say it ain’t so!

  23. Kaiser says:

Exactly, Annie. My point was more that Angelina’s “let’s go into every crisis and rescue all of these people” neoconservative/ultra-liberal (depending on who you ask) philosophy is great in a humanitarian, not so great in a president.

But your point is good too, Annie.

  24. DD says:

Even if she wanted to get involved in politics doesn’t mean she’s aiming for presidency. I see her wanting to get involved with proprosing legislation etc in her area’s of interest like international refugees and international adoptions etc…
As for a president, simply being passionate about global conflict and children in third world countries isn’t enough. I would hope a president would have a strong understanding of domestic, international, economic issues etc…
Angelina as president would be scary as I’m sure she’s come to her views rather simplisticly. But then again Bush was elected twice. But who knows, I get the feeling President’s are just puppets being controlled by others.

  25. Vibius says:

It wouldnt suprise me if this is BS, but in some way got it right. I dont know about President, but with her ego it wouldnt suprise me if she thought she had a chance at a major US office. Nevermind the fact that its easier for your PR guys to manipulate gossip rags than it is for them to manipulate the press. This would just lead to the destruction of her new image. It would give us a legitimate reason to review her past craziness.

  26. Codzilla says:

morgs: LOL! Honestly, I don’t think Angie would consider Jesus a worthy running mate. There’s no way she’ll run until she’s able to successfully clone herself for the VP slot.

  27. morgs says:

    Codzilla:

So that explains the existence of Megan Fox.

  28. Stanley says:

she would wipe the floor with palin in a debate, that would be fun to watch.

but because of her concern for the disadvantaged and oppressed, she’d be considered far to liberal for america.

  29. Codzilla says:

morgs: I think Megan was an early prototype that failed. Angie’s clone/VP needs to be able to spell her name correctly in at least three attempts.

  30. Ned says:

Well, unless I am wrong, Angelina is not your friend or your sister.

You love your sister, because she is your sister. You like your friends for many reasons that originate from you spending time with them (or them supporting you).

You liked Angelina before – not because of her being a member of your family or a friend, but because of things she did and said.

So, if you did like her involvement in third world countries and her insights redarding international matters and liked other statements she has made, how come all of the sudden, those do not sit well with you if she is actually going to run for office?

So now, just for the hack of it, you have turned me into a newborn Brangeloonie.

I won’t even send a check to James Haven. I’ll do it pro bono.

  31. Rosalee says:

Harsh..and crude oh Anna, get off your Perez pony. I stated Jolie does excellent work in regards to humanitarianism placing a spotlight on issues that would be ignored by the media if not for her overblown status placed on her from individuals such as yourself, therefore the attention paid to her life does serve a just purpose. But the political arena, nope a White House sanctioned appointment to a international committee perhaps.

  32. jann says:

well, i for one will vote for her, she is consistent, dedicated and sincere with her humanitarian work, of course it takes more than this, but it’s a start, she’s a caring human being, totally did a 180- in her life.

  33. redhead says:

    man is she ugly, wow.
oh and the prez thing what a joke.

  34. hello... says:

    … bish please!!!!

  35. lisa says:

    Stupid.

  36. BlueSkies says:

Let’s face it on these uneducated Hollywood people. You’ve got it all over them in the real world.

  37. lady garden says:

they must have got this from Ian Under Cover-he pulled the same shit re politics

  38. Ursula says:

She is a joke that takes itself too seriously. Such people are always delusional and when you smile at them, they think you have a crush on them. America is a joke too and she could be elected. Hasn’t a pornstar been elected to office in the past? What does she know, her mumblings are always banal and basic. She would be exposed for a dumbo like Palin who people thought was ideal at the start. Angiejo may even think that Brad Pitt is a modern day philosopher and quote him.

On the plus side, she is an ‘easy’ woman, so many treaties may get signed on the pillow. LOL.

  39. nnn says:

Please no need to insult America. Lots of countries, including in Europe elect people who have a more shady side. years ago, Italy elected a former p*rn star “The Ciccolina” who was promotting herself even on TV show during her campaign by showing her bare breasts. And she was elected. Mussollini’s daughter has been elected so has been Hitler. François Mitterand kept his lover near his office and raise their daughter while the media who knoew the story never released it until he decided 10 years later when he was about to die. Chric is known to have had many mistress so have many other head of states and kings and princes in Europe and elsewhere.

The whole royal british family have been f*cking around for centuries, spreading their genes, having illegitimate children, going out with p*rn stars, caught with their lovers sometimes even n*de, so are the Grimaldi’s and many head of state who are far from clean.

That never stopped people for electing them. Not even the pope is clean and hs been accused many times for his controversial past.

And as for treaties to be sign only an clueless person would suggest that in a democracy, the president or even one parlimanatary has the ability to sign a treaty on his own, to push a legislation on his own. That’s not a banana republic, it’s a damn democracy with different bodies one of which a control one who elicit a law which is put out there to be voted by several poeple. It is voted by the congress or a parliament.

  40. TaylorB says:

I mean no disrespect to Ms Jolie I like her she seems like a lovely person, but she is far too undereducated to ever be POTUS. I find it comforting if the leader of my country is very well educated, she is not.

  41. kim says:

The British tabs make up this stuff every few months

  42. Maritza says:

She could be mayor or maybe governor but since she never stays to long in one place I doubt she ever will become one. I think her causes benefit more doing what she is doing now, speaking and donating money. She would get bored with all the bureaucratic bullshit policies.

  43. Stanley says:

A country that elects G.W. Bush – (twice!)

And gives S. Palin a shot, would elect anyone, regardless of how stupid they are.

  44. TaylorB says:

Stanley wrote: “A country that elects G.W. Bush – (twice!)

Very true, but at least Pres Bush was a Yale undergrad, and a Harvard MBA, not that he was a shining example as a student or an intellectual at least he did attempt to educate himself. Ms Jolie has all the funds to educate herself, expand her mind and learn, she has chosen not to do so, she may have lots of life experiences and that is wonderful, but unless you are born brilliant like Steven Hawking some of that ‘book learnin’ certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Just my opinion. If I had her funds and free time I would take classes every chance I got. But to be fair, I am a book loving nerd not some beautiful star who can garner attention simply by opening her mouth rather than being educated on the actual subject.

  45. fabulous says:

Hey Taylor B after many years thinking that I was pretty stupid compared to educated folk, I went to college late in life. I thought that a bit of ‘book learning’ would mean that I was as smart as anyone else. What I actually learnt was that there are no ‘answers’…only opinions. And I had plenty of them before I went.

I would definately vote for Angelina – she seems to care about the important things in life. Who knows, anything can happen…

  46. J says:

America finally got a decent and educated president who can speak proper English.

Now you want another person who has nothing but only his/her calling from heaven to run your country?

Great. We the rest of world will be come the regime of evils again in the eyes of the womb raider — oh, I mean, the tomb raider.

Even this position is called President of America, if this lady is in power, seriously, she will try to focus on “correcting” every society on this planet except one country — America. It’s no good for us, certainly no too good for you people in America.

God let her adapt the babies, not the countries. Please.

  47. TaylorB says:

Fabulous wrote: “What I actually learnt was that there are no ‘answers’…only opinions. And I had plenty of them before I went.”

Good for you, And what a wonderful lesson to learn, seems like the more a person educates themself them more they get that they aren’t always ‘right’ and understand that there is always more to understand and learn, things aren’t black and white but shades of gray, to open your eyes that much more and broaden your mind and that is a terrific thing. I guess I was inarticulate in my comment, I don’t think by any stretch that she is ‘dumb’, I just prefer my legislators, POTUS, SCOTUS, etc to be very knowledgable about the Constituion/Bill of Rights etc. I do like her, but I think and this is just my opinion, that the leader of this country should be exceptional not just as a humanitarian or a good person, but very well educated as well, I would love to see a woman POTUS but I would prefer a Sec Clinton or Sec Rice, women with some serious intellectual chops and a strong education in law (Ms Clinton is a lawyer) and/or foreign policy (Ms Rice is an expert in Soviet/US relations) to Ms Jolie (an actress). But we all have our own opinions and I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this.

  48. kaligula says:

she is a goddess. i think she could do it and i hope someday she does.
