Jennifer Garner’s giant scarf was a handmade gift from her daughter

Last week, the day after her birthday, Jennifer Garner stepped out in a giant striped scarf, drawing comparisons to Lenny Kravitz’s oversize knit scarf circa 2012. Garner looked chuffed to be photographed out in the scarf, and there was a good reason for it. Not only was she looking cute and quirky, she was showing off a gift from her nine year-old daughter, Seraphina. As Garner wrote in a caption on the photo above in Instagram, Seraphina knitted that for her mom for her birthday, which was last Tuesday.

That’s so cute! I do question the use of some of her hashtags, but I guess that’s part of her appeal. I would so wear a gift from my kid for the paparazzi if I was famous. I wouldn’t expose my kid to the paparazzi, I’d be more like Halle Berry than Jennifer Garner in that way, but perhaps she can’t help that. She’s said as much.

Speaking of that, the other photos in this post are of Garner at her son Samuel’s baseball game on Saturday, where she was seen toting a bowl of snacks. Do you think that sweater would look better if it wasn’t tucked in or is it just unflattering no matter what?

In case you were wondering how Garner celebrated her birthday, not only did she get a giant handmade scarf, she also had a little party in her backyard last Sunday for friends and family, complete with a pizza oven she rented. Ben Affleck was not there, but other friends were including Molly Sims. People Magazine had some of the details in an article I missed from last week, and it looks like they’re recycling some older quotes about how well Garner and Affleck are getting along as coparents, and what their priorities are. We know!

The things she wear individually are not ugly or bad but they don’t go together. I always look at her outfits closely and I think the shoes are cute, the pants are cute and the top is cute but together they don’t go. She needs a stylist to match her pieces into outfits

    • Livvers says:

She’s like Katie Holmes that way – no matter how contemporary or trendy the individual items, the complete outfit always looks dated, like it belongs in the early oughts. I guess that’s a skill?

    • Who ARE These People? says:

I will still harp on her colours. She’s an Autumn. She could wear all the same pieces in warm, vibrant colours and look so much better.

      • Lela says:

Yes, that is another thing, the greys, blacks and beiges don’t do anything for her, her skin-tone is very very fair and those colours just wash her out. She looked so incredible in that striking blue dress at the Oscars, she needs to incorporate more vibrant colours into her wardrobe.

I just don’t think she’s good at dressing for her body type, unless she’s on the red carpet. She’s in amazing shape, but she has a long torso and her legs are not long – and many of her outfit choices emphasize this and make her legs look even shorter (tops tucked into low rise jeans, etc.)

And the shoes – they’re cute, but IMO, these types of shoes work best on the J. Crew model types that can pull off that sort of stylish gender neutral/nun-shoe look, but mainly because they’re skinny and leggy. If you don’t have that body type, they just end up looking frumpy dumpy.

I LOVE the scarf!!! Homemade things are always so much better

  3. lucy2 says:

Ha ha, I thought that too!

The scarf is cute and I’m sure her daughter was proud of it.

  4. Chaine says:

Sweater is too tight or maybe the material is too clingy. Makes her look like she has a little gut or a “burrito baby.”

    • ennie says:

She has a nice body, but it is not “model perfect”. Even back when she was single some dresses did not hang “perfectly” on her I think that her clothes need tailoring around the bust and stomach area, or she need topic better styles, but she does not seem to care.
Another point for her looking like a regular soccer mom.

  5. Alisha says:

I think it is pretty neat that her daughter is into knitting. Several of my friends kids are into sewing, building etc. and that is great.

I mean, to each her own. Nature bless, we’re all different. I, for example, actively try to avoid people like Garner. Everything just feels like a passive aggressive facade competition with her… and people of her ilk. I’ll admit: folks like that are driving me increasingly batty. They’re multiplying!!

Like I said, it takes all kinds. I just happen to be on the opposite end of the spectrum than Garner-types. Well, maybe not opposite end…we all care about family, safety, etc…….but we’re definitely at opposite ends of the PTA meeting.

I know what you mean. I’m a hot-mess mom. My kids refer to the Jennifer Garner type mom as “Pinterest moms” because everything is always presented in a Pinterest perfect package. Even the cookies they bake themselves are Pinterest worthy. That’s just not me.

I even apologized to my kids once and said, “I’m sorry you got stuck with a Hot Mess Mom instead of a Pinterest mom!” They all laughed and said, “That’s okay! Hot Mess Moms are more fun!”

      • Nancy says:

Could be worse, could be a “cool mom!”

      • Who ARE These People? says:

I was neither but I did pass through an Embarrassing Mom stage.

      • Rhea says:

Ugh….my neighbor across the street is the perfect example of Pinterest Mom. She would also gave me a look of disapproval if my yard is not perfectly neat or if my house is not yet properly decorated according to holiday season. 🙄

    • KathNitenDay says:

This!!! Yep she’s been on my last nerve for the past few months and this just tipped her into the ” i just dont really don’t like her..” category. I wonder if shes always “on” like this. So extra. I see your shtick

  7. Umyeah says:

Its super cute that she wore the scarf

    • Nancy says:

I don’t think she has an agenda. She is a loving mother. I keep every single card, letter, project from my babes. I would have rocked the scarf just like her. Looks kinda fancy!

  8. NoShame says:

Finding an utterly cutesy way to milk the kids for PR is so on brand for her. It’s like her pap strolls at church. It’s just too much for me.

    • minx says:

      Same.

    • HannahF says:

At this juncture are paps still called? We and they all know that the kids go to school X and when school is over Jen will be there to pick them up. The same goes for church–they go every Sunday at the same time. There is no great mystery as to where the Garner/Afflecks will be at certain times.

  9. Beth says:

That’s sweet. I hope my mom would do the same

  10. Jenfan says:

@CB Jen’s birthday party last Sunday was actually a pizza making/ food packing party for Rise for Hunger. Molly Sims had an Instagram story up on Jen’s birthday last Tuesday with videos from the event. Where she also praised Jen saying only she would have a birthday party packing x number of food packages. The videos showed a crowd of families assembled at tables with hair nets making pizza, Jen moving stuff from one table to another, and then a cake for Jen. So it’s interesting the People publicized it as a small birthday party (it was actually pretty big – over 100 people for sure) – when really it was a charity food making / packing event. I actually have more respect for her that she kept that essentially private and did not use it for PR.

    • jas says:

Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk were also there. I thought it was strange that the People article only mentioned Molly Sims.

  11. JoJo says:

Oh, Garner … snore. But I’ll concede that she’s got good sunglasses game. I actually bought the Celine glasses she has on (the ones where she’s wearing the grey shirt) – love ’em.

  12. Pandy says:

I think the scarf is sweet.

  13. raincoaster says:

Technical point: as her caption says, it’s woven, not knitted.

  14. Carolnr says:

That is a really long woven scarf!!! That must have taken Serafina a long time to weave!!!
I bet she was so tickled to see her mother wearing it!!
