Chrissy Teigen and John Legend named their baby Miles after Miles Davis

Regardless of what you might think of them, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend sure make some adorable babies. The 39-year-old singer and his 32-year-old wife announced on Wednesday that they welcomed their second child, a son, into the world. Their daughter, Luna, just turned two.

John and Chrissy took a few days to decide upon a name for the new arrival and on Sunday, it was revealed. On the red carpet of Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, John told E! News that they decided upon Miles Theodore. He shared:

“We named our first daughter Luna Simone Stephens [after legendary jazz singer Nina Simone], and every name we give to our kids I think will have a little bit of musical history to it.”

“So Miles, of course, is the same name as the great Miles Davis, and Chrissy really liked the name Theodore, so we put it all together and got Miles Theodore Stephens. When he came out and we hung out for him for a little, we were like, ‘He looks like a Miles.’”

“We’re so excited to have him in the family now. Chrissy’s excited, Luna’s excited, I’m excited. It’s nice to have a little family of four now.”

Earlier in the day, Chrissy shared a photo of little Miles on Instagram, adding the caption, “Hello, world! This is Miles Theodore Stephens. We are drowning in his little peeps and nuzzles. Our household feels overwhelmed with love. Thank you for all your well wishes!” What an adorable baby. This photo made my grinch no-kid-having heart grow a few inches. And that name. Miles is a great name, and I’m not just saying that because a good friend of mine also named her baby after Mr. Davis.

While John was at the awards, Chrissy was home with the kiddos. Chrissy being Chrissy, she used her Twitter to take a swipe at her Mom-shamers, and make a good-natured poke at her hubby in the process. Posting a pic while watching the red carpet coverage, with teeny, tiny baby feet in the foreground, she tweeted, “Wow didn’t u just have a baby John smh go take care of it !!!!!! disgusting.” Funny…but, oh, those baby feet. Too cute.

Oh, and Luna hasn’t started to get excited about being a sister, if this clip is any indication of her level of enthusiasm when seeing her baby brother on the big screen.

In addition to sharing a photo of her adorable new arrival, Chrissy also shared a pic that embodies the less-than-glamorous side of motherhood. Chrissy posed wearing a low slung skirt that showed off her postpartum mesh underwear. In the caption, she gave a shout-out to comedian Ali Wong, who made a joke about said underpants during her recent Netflix special, Hard Knock Wife. In the special, which is hilarious, by the way, she compares the pants to the “material that they package those fancy Korean pears in,” which explains Chrissy’s use of the hashtag #asianpearunderwear.

And, if you need any more post-partum TMI from Chrissy, I’ll just leave this one here…

Congratulations, Chrissy and John, and welcome, Miles!

Ouch! That is a bad tear!

And yes, these two produce exceptionally beautiful children. Oh my goodness.

  2. Lotusgoat says:

    She cracks me up.

  3. Eliza says:

Also a new mom, the new Ali Wong special is the greatest. Asian pear underwear!

    • bros says:

I hated those hospital underwear things and the giant pads. I immediately made my mom go buy me Depends. There’s nothing better after birth than adult diapers! SO comfortable compared to the mesh undies and the giant pillow pad.

      • Notsoanonymous says:

Same here! I planned for them and took them to the hospital both times. So much easier and way less shifting.

    • TyrantDestroyed says:

Me too. The Depends are a life saver especially after a nasty C-section

      • Imara219 says:

A thousand times yes. I tell every pregnant woman I know that the depends are better. I had a c-section and it was my standard for 3-4 weeks.

  4. ZigZags says:

I wonder if she’s got that good Sonic ice stuffed into that Asian pear underwear?

  5. FHMom says:

She really loves attention, doesn’t she? She is exhausting.

  6. Léna says:

I love the name Theodore, really cute. Miles is not a name I like but at least they give their children normal names.

Ali Wong Netflix specials are amazing. I love this woman. I don’t know if I ever want children now, but it was amazing. (not that I ever wanted to give birth ever but it’s getting worse lol)

  7. Eleonor says:

    Welcome Miles!

  8. Elisa says:

    Miles Theodore sounds lovely. Congrats!

  9. Lindy says:

Awww, congrats! He’s adorable! And I honestly really like Chrissy. I think she seems funny and real about being a mom.

  10. Fishface says:

    Classy couple. Love them.

  11. SunnyT34 says:

I think she is a little extra sometimes, but they appear to be excellent parents and loving partners. I love both names, Luna and Miles. They sound good together!

I hate oversharing re: kids but I am very grateful to any celebrity showing what it’s like after giving birth for most women. I didn’t particularly enjoy Ali Wong’s new show (or maybe I’m just darn funny because that’s how I describe pregnancy, Wong, hire me 👋🏼!) but it’s really good to put the word out there.
I first gave birth 18 years ago and had NO IDEA what it was like. I felt disgusting and non-functional. Because I was so young people kept telling me I was going to bounce back and of course I did eventually and faster than with my other babies but it wasn’t automatic. And the #asianpearunderwear + tearing to your neck and back… it would have been good to know.

    • Betsy says:

It really would be nice if we had a cultural language about what pregnancy, delivery, post partum and nursing are like. I had the idea of the mechanics down, but I didn’t know any of the rest of it, either. It’s all either shrouded in mystery or you know your one mouthy coworkers’ horrific and extreme experience in graphic detail. Maybe you know your own birth story, shrouded in your mother’s desire to protect you and softened by time and hormonal erasure.

      • Slowsnow says:

I have a friend who says that the proof women are stupid is that they have more than one child.

        She has 3 kids LOL.

My daughter asked me the other day if it felt disgusting to have a tiny human inside and I was so surprised with the question. It really bears reminding that we need to talk to our daughters and young women around us.

    • Snowflake says:

Yes, people were saying she’s oversharing I know everyone has babies but people don’t know the reality. I’ve never had kids, mom never really talked about her pregnancies. There’s no harm in people knowing what they could be in for. Maybe young teens would be less likely to get pregnant if they know it’s not all peaches and cream.

I like her. Congrats to them

    I think she’s hilarious
