Every year, Monaco hosts something called the Golden Nymph Awards. My opinion: it’s just some vague sort of scam to entice film and television stars to come to Monaco for a few days and hang out. Technically, the awards are the final act in Monaco’s “International Television Festival,” but it’s just like a tourist thing, or something to make Monaco seem like a celebrity hotbed. Anyway, Princess Charlene attended the closing ceremony last night and we should talk about the photos!
First of, her gown was lovely. I’ll start with something nice! This gown is Carolina Herrera and it really suits Charlene and her figure. She’s a big, tall woman with broad swimmer’s shoulders, and sometimes it feels like she struggles to figure out how to deal with her shoulders sartorially. This is how – sleeveless, with wide straps and a V-neck. The fuller skirt suits her too. I’m not totally in love with this off-white/cream color, but whatever.
Something not so nice: good lord, her face is a mess. There’s the plastic surgery, which becomes more and more evident with each passing year, and then there’s the makeup! Who is doing Charlene’s makeup? And why are they doing it this way?? You guys yell at me for my hatred of bangs, but few of you know that I have an equal hatred for PINK EYE MAKEUP. There is literally no reason for any woman, of any coloring, to wear pink eye makeup. That’s all. Oh, and Charlene desperately needed some kind of stronger color on her lips.

Like me, Princess Charlene must have bought the pink eye shadow palette and keeps trying to wear it, even though it always ends poorly: “Getting my money’s worth out of this sh!it”
Lol, pink eye make-up can look cute though and cutting edge.
I wear pink eye makeup all the time. Fight me.
I think pink eye make-up looks great on some people, it’s just not for everybody. I personally can’t wait for this orange eye make-up trend to die.
Me too! It’s got a cool undertone-which is the problem here. Charlene appears to be using a warm pink, and to me it isn’t flattering.
Her makeup makes her look like she just woke up, which isn’t a look you would want for a big occasion. She looks like she’s still waiting for the makeup person.
Charlene’s fashions interest me. I’m also tall and have swimmer’s shoulders and yes, they are a challenge. The top of this dress works because it is V neck and has wide straps, both things visually break up that expanse of shoulders. The color is meh, could be more vibrant.
Broad shoulders need wide straps…and a good “V”…like you…I OVERSTAND!
Another trick…throwing your shoulders back makes them look narrower. And it gives you good posture which is always a plus. I’ve had a lot of practice dealing with this!
My size “L” cups always make it SO HARD TO DO THAT!!!!!
Lala, ha, sorry! I’m still an A cup after two kids.
My shoulders are why I’ve never worn high crew necks, look like a football player.
Charlene has the same issue that Greta Garbo had with her body…her height and her broad shoulders…it used to drive Greta (and costume designers CRAZY)…Charlene’s dress is lovely…the nude makeup palette…is not…
Yeah, agreed on both points.
Her gown and body look amazing! I blame Meghan Markle’s wedding make up for Charlene’s “natural” look lol.
Her arms look amazing in the top photo.
She doesn’t even look like she’s wearing makeup. Pink eyeshadow is nowhere as bad as the blue my teachers all wore in the 80’s
I am blond and hazel-y-blue eyed with lots of pink tones in my skin (I’m actually very pink and blue) and have tried to wear a pink shadow. I look rabid…simply cannot carry it off….
It seems that person who applies her eye shadow is the same person who does Kate and Meghan’s bronzer/blush. The person needs to be fired ASAP
She’s starting to morph into Lisa Kudrow.
I was going to say the header pic almost makes her look like Albert. Unfortunately.
I’m 53 and get Botox twice a year for frown lines between my eyebrows, so I should not judge, but those photos are why I’ll never, ever get filler injected into my face.
I’ll be 51 this year…and my I was looking at “fillers” because of the () around my mouth…but when I did the research, found out what fillers TRULY ARE…and what havoc they can do to yourself…I’m like…
“Naw…I’m good”…
She looks lovely but washed out and needed some light blush, something to bring a little color to her beautiful skin.
For some reason she also seems the saddest person who married into a royal family and like she needs to be protected or hugged or both. Who knows though!
Love this haircut she’s had for awhile. So chic.
For me it is not the pink it’s that there is no eyeliner or mascara. Guess she likes a natural look, but her eyes could really ise a boost.
Maybe lip gloss with some color instead of nude would have been a better look.
The pink eyeshadow would be fine with a different lip, IMO. Those really intense nudes that blend the lips into the skin tone are meant for really intense smokey-eyed looks. Especially with the blush tone dress, it just gives her an overall neutral look.
Never realized how muscular she was around the shoulders. Like, damn girl. Pumping that iron. I guess it really shows on women with banana/apple builds when they go sleeveless.
She looks amazing in that gown I just wish she’d worn a little eyeliner so her eyeshadow didn’t look so washed out.
I have broad swimmer’s shoulders, too. Always have. Actually more like a linebacker. I’ve always wanted dainty narrow shoulders.
Anyway, I can pull off pink eyeshadow, but I have dark hair, dark eyes, dark lashes, and one trick is to skip the blush if you’re doing pink shadow. And do a lip color in a complimentary tone, not one that clashes with the coolness of the pink. This…was not done in this case.
Her dress is so pretty! She has such a tall, lean body. #jealous
Imagine it was the same brown they used on her hairline. It would have been fierce. So close, Charlene.
I think she’s gorgeous & I like strong swimmer shoulders, especially with narrow hips. Why do people speak of this as a flaw? Charlene was an athlete & that changes body shape. Better this than a soft couch-potato look.
Thank you!
The eyeshadow looks rose gold in the pics. Its not so bad. I think its the bare lip that is the problem. The dress is boring but not tragic. The shoulders are hard to dress I imagine.
Bless her, she always has a look on her face as if she’s minutes away from crying.
Maybe it’s just me seeing that. Maybe she has nerves about being in the public eye.
She seems a nice enough person. But, boy oh boy, does she need better makeup people helping her. (I think she’d have looked fine without any makeup vs. this look)
I do like her hairstyle.
I think she looks fab and I love pink eye makeup, so there. ;)~
I love Herrera’s clothes and totally agree this suits Charlene – and also is something of a departure from the style she usually wears.
I also agree that something is up with her face, and who knows about the plastic surgery, (for god’s sake, what is she, 40?!), but I also have to say, and I think I’ve said it before on other threads, that no matter what she’s doing with the rest of her face (smiling, kissing her – ugh – husband, etc.) something deep in those eyes hurts. I just can’t put my finger on it, but nothing about this has ever smelled right to me
The issue is, she looks like she didn’t finish the rest of the makeup. Foundation, pink shadow, lip balm. That’s it.
She needs Lisa Eldridge, stat.
Is she preggers again? She looks nauseated.
Her face?
