Here are some photos of Thursday evening’s Tennis On the Thames event, which is the WTA-sponsored event ahead of Wimbledon now. It used to be more of a cocktail party, but they’ve replaced it with this, a somewhat more low-key event. Serena Williams attended this event, because she seems to be all healed up from the pectoral-muscle strain that ended her French Open campaign. Serena is ready for the grass, her favorite surface. Meanwhile, I wasn’t ready for Serena wearing acid-washed denim overalls. MY GOD, Queen Rena! Would it have been so difficult to just find a cute dress??
The Wimbledon draws just came out this morning. Wimbledon took a chance and decided to seed Serena, even though her current ranking is outside of the top 100. They were always going to let her into the main draw, because Serena is box office and because she’s won the Wimbledon singles title seven times. But the question of seeding following a player’s pregnancy has been debated thoroughly this year with Serena’s comeback. And Wimbledon decided to make her the 25th seed, which means she’ll be facing one of the top eight seeds in the third round. That top seed? Elina Svitolina, the same woman who defeated her at the Rio Olympics. *sideeye*

I’m also including Tennis on the Thames photos of defending Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza (looking great in a white suit), Petra Kvitova (in a great cream & black dress), Elina Svitolina (blonde in the black-patterned mini), Naomi Osaka (blue dress), Kristina Mladenovic (black slacks, girlfriend of Dominic Thiem), Jo Konta (brunette in floral), Donna Vekic (the blonde in red, she’s dating Stan Wawrinka). Out of everyone in this post, I’d say that Garbi, Petra and Serena are the Wimbledon favorites.

Is there some sort of filter on the pictures that make these women look very tall and emaciated? They run on those legs and wield rackets with those arms.

Kvitova and Mladenovic look fab. The rest need to fire their current stylists and hire new ones.
You know when you see pictures from events of women dressed up to the nines, with perfect hair and full make up, and the guys look like they picked the cleanest shirt from the clothes chair in their bedroom and *thought* about shaving – It’s sort of like that, Serena pulled on something comfy and cas, while the others all dolled up. (Serena looks like she put in a lot more effort with her hair and make up than the guys do in this analogy.)
What on Earth is Jo wearing? It looks like she’s being devoured by a village plot.
Kvitova is more a favorite than Garbine. I want a Serena Petra final! Also Serena got a good draw im happy out of all 8 seeds she got Svitolina who lately looks waaaay too thin.
I like Serena’s outfit. I, myself, don’t think Serena as the fru-fru type of girl. She looks comfortable and that’s what she should be.
I think Serena looks cute, just underdressed compared to the others.

I’m no fan of acid-wash denim, but this is one of the BETTER things I’ve seen Serena in.
I LOVE her outfit (but ditch the shoes). It’s women’s tennis – not a runway. I think (aside from the pants outfit) the rest of the outfits are GAWDAWFUL – except Serena’s.
