Seems like Elon Musk pulled a “Kim Kardashian”.
Well, he has filed for divorce although they probably have been at it for awhile. It’s his responsibility to keep his vows but she should have some self respect and steer clear of these situations.
Always like this, re. Elon and as Leon would say.
Rum, Luann’s new guy is HOTT: https://www.google.com/amp/s/deadline.com/2017/01/richard-super-gersh-agent-hire-1201882389/amp/
I hope Luann gets help. She needs rehab. She does not look well. I thought that was Lindsey Lohan.
LOL, Elon Musks’s family fled South Africa after the end of apartheid because their entire fortune was obtained through the exploitation of the racial class system and subsequent economic abuses against those at the bottom. Even Musk has admitted his father is a total dirtbag. It’s just a shame that he bought into his own cult rather than attempting to do better.
Wow I didn’t know that. What a shame…disgusting really.
None of that is true.
Firstly, Elon, his mother and his two siblings left South Africa 5 years before the end of apartheid. Elon left at 17, partly to avoid mandatory military service in what he’s called a fascist army.
They had no ‘fortune’. Musk’s father was upper middle class. He was an engineer, and for a brief time he owned a small share of a small emerald mine. He’s still in South Africa.
His mother wasn’t wealthy at all, she was at that time a low-level model (like, local catalogues and such) and dietician. Musk’s father didn’t pay child support, so she’s talked about how she struggled raising her children, how she’d literally cry over spilt milk because she couldn’t afford to replace it etc.
Wow also very interesting. So much fake stories, it’s hard to know what the truth is…but thanks for clarifying.
No worries. The misinformation originally comes from a lot of Twitter users who hate Musk/capitalism. They’ve taken a few details of his upbringing, made some wild assumptions, added in a few straight up lies and started spreading around this revised history.
Like the idea his family fled South Africa after apartheid ended. A one minute google search would tell them Musk was at college in the US by then, after already spending a few years with his mother and siblings in Canada.
Being upper middle class in a segregated society inevitably involves some level of economic exploitation, and the less said about the mines the better – those people are literally treated like slaves. Engaging in them in any level is the definition of capitalist exploitation. But fair enough, the article I read was clearly biased and exaggerated, so I rescind my statement about how exceptionally privileged his childhood was.
I don’t hate Elon Musk. I think Tesla is actually a fairly innovative and thoughtful company with some great technological concepts and progressive ideas. However, I do think Musk needs to get the hell over himself. I don’t begrudge him his success, but there’s no excuse for the facilities he prospers from having unsafe work conditions or the continuous union busting efforts that go on.
Fixing his PR is easy: Stop throwing temper tantrums because somebody called you a billionaire – you are a billionaire, and nobody would give a shit about that, either, if there weren’t documented problems with your facilities. Stop making dumbass arguments about what the real meaning of “socialist” is because you created a profitable company. Stop arguing with teenagers on goddamn Twitter and not doing anything when your cult-like followers go after them. Stop turning the rescue of Thai children into a matter All About You because you’re irked a newspaper called your device dumb. Be the bigger person say, “I’m glad they were rescued without the requirement of my device, and I hope that what we have developed will ultimately be helpful in the future.” There, done. Situation over. The story fades into the background, Musk looks good instead of looking petty and drawing it out even more.
“I’m glad they were rescued without the requirement of my device, and I hope that what we have developed will ultimately be helpful in the future.”
That is what he’s been saying. He just corrected one media report in the midst of comments like that.
His father is an awful person, but I’m not sure what that has to do with Musk. He was completely cut off financially by his father at 17 (his father didn’t give him any money to start his first business as is often claimed), and Musk cut him out of his life not long after. He couldn’t be clearer that he hates the man and everything he’s done.
Every case against Tesla for ‘union-busting’ has been withdrawn or dismissed. The latest case against them is a guy who came in while he was signed off sick to hand out pamphlets. He was made to leave because he wasn’t allowed to be at work while on medical leave, for obvious liability reasons. That’ll get dismissed too. The largest group that’s ever claimed they tried to organise was three people. Three people out of over 40,000. The UAW spends half a million every year just on trying to get Tesla workers to unionise, and that’s as close as they’ve ever come. There’s no union-busting going on because there’s never been any halfway serious attempt to actually unionise.
As for safety, Tesla’s safety stats are in line with other automakers, and they’re working to improve them. It’s manual labor with heavy machinery, unfortunately there’s always going to be some injuries (until the entire process can be automated), but Tesla’s record isn’t any worse than you’d expect from an automaker. It’s worse than you’d expect from a tech company, which is where I think that label hurts them. What sounds normal at, say, Ford, sounds bad if you’re thinking of Tesla as a Silicon Valley tech company.
Elon Musk made a show of reaching for the check after the bill was already paid. 🙄
Ok but the mini-sub looks like a clear plastic coffin??? Like they would really put the kids in there?
Musk was personally asked to assist by the Chiang Rai Governor (after initially saying he was sure Thai authorities had it under control). He built what he was asked to build, with input all the way through from the divers. He tweeted videos so that everyone on the ground could easily see it at their own convenience, and flag up any issues before he put it on a plane. He was strongly encouraged to keep testing it and to send it over quickly by one of the rescue leaders after the first rescues.
At no point did he take any credit for the rescues. He shouted out the rescuers repeatedly and he corrected people when they tried to give him credit.
He also sent his own engineers and a bunch of Powerwalls that helped power pumping the water out.
It’s ridiculous that he’s getting flack for this. He was asked to help, and so he tried to help in the exact way he was asked to. His design didn’t end up being useful in the end because the cave stayed mostly walkable. It wasn’t built for that scenario, it was built for if the cave re-flooded and it was once again a 5hr dive.
The Thai navy has plans for his donated mini-sub and is already doing training on it, so it’s not this useless joke item people are trying to make it out to be.
Totally agree with you Peggy.
I don’t exactly think he was asked to help. He got involved in Twitter conversations about the rescue and made overtures to help that were not refused. When the government official politely said the submarine wouldn’t be used, Musk had a very poor and public reaction.
Now for my personal opinion: he’s a unionbuster and a middle-aged skeeze.
He was asked to help. The Chiang Rai Governor told reporters at a press conference last week that he personally invited Musk and SpaceX to assist, because he has a friend who works at SpaceX. Before that Musk was telling the people asking on Twitter that he was sure Thai authorities had it handled.
When news articles started trying to make out that Musk had just made some stupid, random thing no one ever wanted, he called them out with the proof that he’d been working on the design with a diver and cave rescue expert who was one of the people leading the rescue effort on the ground. That’s all. He had no reaction to his sub not being used. All along he just said he hoped it would be useful if needed, and when it wasn’t needed he congratulated the rescuers and the company that helped pump out enough water to make it walkable.
IMO, it is not possible to “date” a married man. What is possible is called adultery.
I wish people would stop downsizing this behaviour.
A married human being is not available period.
Legally separated and weeks from finalizing the divorce? Maybe.
Otherwise, try to restrain yourself from committing adultery, wait until ther person is actually completely free to become involved.
Yes, this does hit far too close to home for me. Try living with a cheating spouse, see if you don’t agree when it happens to you.
I don’t have a problem with Elon Musk. It seems a lot of news stories have trashed him lately.
He’s in a bad press spiral. The last few months everything he’s done has been treated negatively. He makes a dorky joke on Twitter and a dozen scathing articles about him thinking he’s some sort of comedian pop up.
Almost two weeks ago Little Miss Flint reached out to him on Twitter asking for bikes for an event and a bottled water delivery. He donated the 500 bikes she wanted for her event, and started talking to her team about working on a permanent solution to Flint’s crisis. Now he’s getting ripped into for donating bikes, never mind that that’s what he was asked for, and cynical jerks on Twitter are ignoring Little Miss Flint completely and patting themselves on the back for bullying a billionaire into helping Flint, which isn’t what happened at all. The negativity is just getting gross and spectacularly counterproductive now.
His problem is that he needs to get off Twitter because he shows his ass more often than not, whether it was his intention was good or otherwise. He’s not a terrible person, just one that is desperate to always come out on top in stupid Twitter debates, which makes him look petty.
Although, the situation with his facilities and their safety concerns is not something that should be ignored. There’s no excuse for your employees to be at risk, particularly in a company as successful as Tesla. Treat your workers with respect, and you won’t have the threat of unionizing on your hands.
Tesla’s safety concerns are the same as any auto-maker. It’s manual labour with heavy machinery, there will be injuries unfortunately. Tesla’s stats are in line with their competitors, and they’re working to improve.
There is no threat of unionisation at Tesla. The largest group that ever claimed they tried to organise was three people. Three out of over 40,000. The UAW spends half a million dollars on what it calls its ‘Tesla campaign’ annually, and they’ve gotten absolutely nowhere. People still remember that the UAW completely ditched their California members and ran back to Detroit during the global financial crisis ten years ago. Also, California has very strict labor laws that go beyond most union agreements, so they just don’t have much to offer. If Musk wanted to take advantage of his workers, he would have set up Tesla just about anywhere else.
Emily’s husband has resting douche face.
No post on Emmy nominations? Or am I missing it?
Kids were dived out tied down and sedated. His plan wasn’t so different. Oh the horror. Jeez.
