I can’t believe this, but Pippa Middleton is already in her third trimester? My God, she’s carrying small. Pippa sort of announced her pregnancy shortly before her sister gave birth to Prince Lou, then Pippa officially confirmed it weeks later. That was May, so… *counts on fingers* I guess she is probably just beyond six months pregnant now. It’s weird to think she was beyond five months pregnant when she attended some Wimbledon matches. Anyway, Pippa has written some fun #PippaPregnancyTips for anyone who’s interested. Some of you suggested that Pippa would be phasing out her “party-planning” celebrity brand to become more of a pregnancy/mommy-branded writer/essayist. I think that’s probably the plan. Pippa’s latest column in Waitrose Kitchen is about the easiest workouts for her in her third trimester.
Pippa Middleton is making a splash heading into the third trimester of her pregnancy. The younger sister of Kate Middleton, who is expecting her first child with husband James Matthews, explained in her latest column for the U.K. supermarket monthly Waitrose Kitchen that swimming has become a go-to way to keep up her fitness routine as she nears her due date.
“From personal experience, I’d confidently say I find it has been the most enjoyable and rewarding form of exercise since I found out I was expecting,” she shared. “It’s comforting to know that it’s safe throughout pregnancy, and you don’t need to adapt and change too much (unlike most other sports). It’s so good for you that you could swim every day – as long as you don’t overexert yourself – right up until the end of the third trimester.”
Pippa, 34, said that while swimming is low-impact and “offers a wonderful feeling of weightlessness” while still getting in a good workout. “As with other forms of exercise it boosts oxygen levels and strengthens the heart, enabling you to get more nutrients to your unborn child to help them grow,” she added. “It’s also one of the most therapeutic ways to work out, particularly when you become less mobile, and it helps prevent your shoulders rounding forwards – a common symptom as your belly expands. It can also offset the tendency for your pelvis to be out of alignment.”
“As the summer weather contributes to feelings of bloating and swelling, swimming will keep your body cooler while exercising, something that is a relief in pregnancy, preventing swelling in the arms and legs,” she said. “But even in the cooler months, temporarily joining a local pool can be worth the investment. If this is the only exercise you do during pregnancy, you’re onto a good thing!”
Does anyone feel like she might have plagiarized from a medical pamphlet that Ob-Gyns give to pregnant ladies? Her essay feels very… technical. There’s nothing personal there at all, which I think was one of the big problems with her Pippa Tips – if she wants to give us obvious (and dumb) advice about how we might need to make ice ahead of a party, the advice could certainly be delivered with a funny personal story about one party she had without ice or something. Same here: why pay Pippa to write a column about pregnancy fitness if she’s not going to tell a story about doing water aerobics or whatever? Also: “I’d confidently say I find it has been the most enjoyable and rewarding form of exercise since I found out I was expecting…” She sounds like a robot trying to pass the Turing Test.

Her husband looks like he could be her father.
Not feeling the little house on the prarie dress but hope she has a safe rest of her pregnancy.
Their kid will be very British looking to be sure.
😂😂😂
(As a very ‘British looking’ person myself, I co-sign)
That would be one hell of a young father, if he became father in his teens. Like seriously whose father looks like this? Don’t be gross for the sake of it.
Oh Pippa lol. Points for trying?
She has no charisma whatsoever.
There’s a lot that’s jumping out here – she’s gone out of her way to say “personal experience” and it reads as overly vetted. My guess? She’s (or Waitrose is) worried about liability.
Yes, I think there is some vetting/liability concern here. I know we are used to totally unfiltered bloggers putting out all sorts of highly personal anecdotes but Waitrose I’m sure has to be much more careful not to court controversy. Though it does sound like it was lifted from a doctor’s office pamphlet and it certainly could have been done in a way that felt less awkward though.
Hard to imagine why her media career didn’t take off. So much charisma.
In saying that, we live in a world that judges every single breath mother’s take so if she wants to opt out of that by giving NHS plamphlet responses then that’s okay too.
But anna I wonder why she agrees to these columns if she knows she is going to be constrained/edited into generic blah blah. If she can’t interject anything of her opinions or any interesting anecdotes why would anyone care —- and why bother, Pippa.
My sense is she loves the “idea” of dabbling in TV lifestyle reporting, a la NBC morning shows, or fluffy party columns which don’t require enormous effort but make it seem like she’s relevant. But it turns out she’s not that interesting on TV, not willing or able to write interesting lifestyle stuff and if her name wasn’t Middleton even the grocery chain would have given up on her a long time ago.
Is she very tall? Because wow, I know it’s her first pregnancy and all, but she just has a mild thickening of the waist!
That is some dull advice she provides! You’re right – a funny story would go a long way toward personalizing it.
This is gonna sound super crazy, but in those sunglasses, Pippa looks like a white Future.
Google it.
I have no problem with her writing here. It’s not Facebook style manipulative, it’s informative and helpful. Give me someone talking truth vs. spinning b.s. any day. Glad she’s doing well with her pregnancy.
I’m struck by the dichotomy of the anti-GOOP pro-science normally prevalent here, yet now you’ve got someone who wrote responsibly, and it’s being criticized. ?
As a swimmer and a coach, I have a problem with her writing. It’s like everything written by a “celebrity”, which should be taken with a healthy does of skepticism and followed up with a massive amount of research. In fact, even if Dara Torres wrote a primer on swimming while pregnant, I’d seek out additional advice from doctors and other coaches, because everyone is different and in different levels of being in shape when they become pregnant. the bit about water temp was the most concerning to me, since outdoor pools that aren’t used year round don’t have chillers and indoor pools are kept at a warm temp for small children – both of which could accidentally cause overheating if you aren’t careful or don’t know to look out for that possibility. and swimmers aren’t known for their excellent posture, since we are all rounded forward from overuse, so that bit was downright silly. but swimming IS an excellent form of exercise for pregnant people!
I’m not a good swimmer really but I loved “swimming” (just really going in the pool) in the third trimester for my September baby. It took so much of the discomfort in my joints away and I felt cool and weightless. Also the baby seemed to like it and would kick a lot. He could definitely sense the change in his surrounding, which was also neat.
Motherhood really is a money making career now isn’t it… Zzz
I’ve heard women say that they enjoyed exercising during pregnancy because they felt like they could take a break from being competitive and could focus more on listening to their bodies and enjoying the experience. Pippa has competed in some big events (RAAM relay). I’m surprised that shifting her focus or goals isn’t mentioned?
I’d bet you real money this is being written by some poor anonymous schlub for like $20 an hour. I know, because I was once that schlub for another, far less famous person. If she paid $50 an hour she could have someone witty and charming, like me.
OMG, funnily enough Pippa and James were on my flight from Heathrow to Chicago O’Hare today! They were in biz class. She wore a black cotton one piece cropped jumpsuit (loose fitting) w/white trainers. And the bump was subtle — looked around that 5/6 month mark at most. She’s very trim and very tan. He’s quite slim and was sweetly protective — hand on the small of her back guiding her to the stairs, security line, etc. They took forever at the automatic passport kiosk though — maybe they couldn’t figure it out! Am not a much of a Pippa fan, but found the whole thing very amusing!
Interesting! Thanks TQ
It’s her first child – how is she an expert?
