Did Sarah Palin quit due to Levi Johnson’s upcoming tell-all?

Gov. Sarah Palin
The National Enquirer is reporting that Sarah Palin abruptly quit as Governor of Alaska last week because she fears the revelations that are going to come out in Levi Johnston’s upcoming tell-all. I doubt this is true and think that the Enquirer must have a source in the Johnston camp – they’ve had past stories with plenty of insider information about the family – who is hyping the book in an attempt to sell it for big bucks. Palin most likely quit because she couldn’t deal with the pressure of the ethics investigation, didn’t want to work with the Alaskan legislature and missed being in the spotlight. She has a multi-million dollar book deal, can likely command tens of thousands for appearances and speeches and doesn’t really need to stick it out and fulfill her responsibility as Governor. Whether dropping out will affect her future ambitions remains to be seen.

Although the Enquirer may be wrong about Sarah’s resignation having much to do with Levi’s book, they’re saying that his family is overjoyed that she quit and see it as “sweet revenge.” Now that, I believe:

Sarah Palin’s surprise announcement that she’s resigning as Alaska’s governor stunned the political world. But the Enquirer learned her decision was sparked by all-out war with the family of Levi Johnston, the estranged father of her grandson Tripp.

As The Enquirer previously reported, 19-year-old Levi is shopping an explosive tell-all book in which the former vice presidential candidate will be the main target.

“She’s bracing for what he may write about her. Levi heard and saw a lot. He knows what really goes on with the Palins,” declared a friend of Levi’s.

“Sarah wasn’t able to keep the ugly feud between the Palins and Johnstons from boiling over. She quit because she knows Levi’s book is going to cause a firestorm…

“Sarah quitting as governor comes as something of a sweet revenge for him,” said the source.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, July 20, 2009]

Sarah likely had a lot of stuff going on that led her to quit, and the problems with the Johnstons were just one issue among many. Whether this will affect her presumed ambitions at a national political career remains to be seen. This book sounds interesting though and I know I would enjoy reading Levi’s take on the situation. By many accounts he was almost shut out of his son’s life by Sarah and he must be anxious to spill the details for the right price.

She’s not a quitter by any stretch of the imagination. She quit because someone has something on her to force her resignation. She’s toughed a lot of things out through the thick and thin and is determined. I’m sure there is an enemy of hers working behind Levi. It’s gonna get juicy. I suspect that Down Syndrome baby is really Bristol’s, not hers and Todd has a wicked addiction problem to meth and booze.

  2. HEB says:

Unless she has a major indictment on deck, resigning was a real bonehead move.

  3. Rosanna says:

This guy is scum! What is he famous for? For getting SP’s daughter pregnant! Does he think that writing a tell-all about the Palins will make his son feel good about him? Vapid young man he is.

  4. Roni says:

When I first heard the news that she was stepping down, my red flag went wayyy up!!! Someone (somewhere) has some dirt on her because the news of her resignation just came out of left field! She loved being the governor just to step down so abruptly!

  5. Izzy says:

I’m sure whatever the reason is, Alaska will be better off for it. She was too into cronyism and nepotism even for Alaska. Her sneakiness (using Yahoo for secret communications) and obvious ethical problems all caught up to her. I can’t wait to read this book. I want to see if all of my suspicions are right.

  6. Green Is Good says:

Holy Ghost Writer, Batman! Like Levi can even string a coherent sentence together.

  7. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

She has resigned from every political post she has ever had– elected and appointed– before finishing out her terms. I wouldn’t trust her with a damn dog.

I wouldn’t worry too much about her going national. If she secures a position she’ll just quit in a fortnight when she runs out of animals to kill.

  8. prissa says:

    She’s a hot GILF.

  9. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Thanks for pointing that out–she quit four colleges and found a fifth to give her a degree, she quit every elected position she’s ever gotten (she’s never finished out an elected term). This is pretty par for the course for her. I think being governor just involved too much work when she can have someone ghost write a book for her or go around making speeches and make more money faster. Ka-ching!

But yeah, boneheaded move as far as public opinion goes. She’s a quitter.

  10. Neelyo says:

There was a survey of the Republican party after she stepped down and 70% of them still said they would vote for her as President.

I don’t get it. Even if you admired her initially, wouldn’t a move like her latest make you question her qualifications for president?

  11. Annie says:

Blueskies: She’s not a quitter by any stretch of the imagination.

    Ahem:

she quit four colleges and found a fifth to give her a degree, she quit every elected position she’s ever gotten (she’s never finished out an elected term)

Was just about to point that out myself :).

So yes. She IS a quitter and frankly, I hope she drops off into obscurity where she belongs because it will be a scary day if people decide to elect her to an office again.

  12. TaylorB says:

While I do not discount her popularity, she will not win the 2012 POTUS bid. Sure some people will vote for her based on pure emotion (‘I like her’, ‘she is the average American’ etc.)but logic and reason will win out in the end. I am not saying this to be mean, she seems like a perfectly affable person, but she simply does not have the intellectual chops or temperament to be the leader of the free world, and once she is up on the stage next to people like Collins, Romney, Snowe, Jindal, Pawlenty, Dole, and even Huckabee that fact will be glaringly obvious to anyone who is paying attention.

  13. Mairead says:

@ Taylor – basically you mean what I’ve suspected all along… she’s Dubya in a skirt.

And as for the rest of you; for shaaaaaame. How dare you accuse her of stepping down to avoid censure or simply out of habit.

It’s blindly obvious she had to resign in order to more effectively keep an eye on Russia and those quixotic Canucks. 😈

what people consider ‘strength’ is really just ego.

  15. Kate says:

TaylorB I agree with you on all accounts.

  16. Iggles says:

Levi is awesome. But he better watch out because the shady Palins are gunning for him. I can’t wait to hear the whoppers in his book.

This is so awesome because they elevated this kid to the national stage to try save their a**es from bad press, and now they have a damaging enemy. KARMA!

  17. Cinderella says:

She really needs to find another career path, perhaps broadcasting. Public service just isn’t in the cards for her.

I am also curious if Levi is going to blow that family out of the water.

  18. flourpot says:

/popcorn. Gonna be a good read.

  19. fizXgirl314 says:

    damn she’s lookin hot… :/

  20. the original kate says:

i hope this book is coming out in time for my beach vacation in august – i never read tell-all books, but i am soooo reading this one!

    *claps hands together in glee*

  21. Bob says:

She quit because of the death threats against her children.

  22. HereToHelp says:

Do you suppose that Sarah quit so she could cash in by starring in the sequel to Nailin Palin? It was reported today that Levi said he’s working on a movie deal.

  23. BlueSkies says:

Annie et al. I stand corrected but I still think someone has something on her. So she’s a quitter but I’ve always thought she was pretty strong to go ahead with the VP nomination in spite of all of her obvious skeletons.

  24. Magsy says:

Somethings up, who would step down from governor for no real reason. She just needs to go away.

  25. lucy2 says:

I think there’s more to her resignation than the rambling reasons she gave, but I doubt it has to do with this idiot guy and a book.
I do not like Palin and would be happy if she faded from the spotlight forever, but I also think this Levi guy is a total ass. He needs to shut up, work hard, support his son, and try to be a good dead. None of that includes publicly bashing the other half of his son’s family.

  26. Annie says:

Please don’t say she’s W in a skirt, he got elected twice! 🙁

(Which made me very glad to come from a staunchly blue state :D)

Blueskies, I must respectfully disagree. The republican party has a handful of people who were far more suited as VP running mates to McCain. Don’t get me wrong, Palin is likable and she “revitalized” the Republican party, but she doesn’t even come close to comparing to some of the other people who were in the VP talks.

  27. tasteT says:

Its funny, the FEDS were investigating her office and when she resigned, the FEDS said they are no longer investigating her..

    Its something shady..

I would like to forget she even exists.

  28. fizXgirl314 says:

i feel sorry for this lady if she is getting death threats (which i bet she is because the public is nuts)

  29. Lita says:

    “Leader of the free world.”

Ahem – I think you’ll find the ‘world’ takes issue with this oft trotted out phrase.

  30. Allen Young says:

Whether she’s qualified or not doesn’t seem to make any difference. Just look at the clown we have for the highest office in the land !!

  31. sarcra says:

As much as people hate Sarah Palin, Levi Johnson and his family are no better. The second they saw the opportunity to profit from this, they did. A bunch of lowlifes.

  32. TaylorB says:

Lita wrote: “Ahem – I think you’ll find the ‘world’ takes issue with this oft trotted out phrase.”

Mea culpa, I only ‘trotted out’ that phrase to make a simple point. I suppose, I should have used something akin to ‘the physical/intellectual representation of this particular nation’ or something else… but honestly, do we really need to get caught up in semantics? This point is far too important to be bogged down in linguistic gymnastics. Or does that really matter that much to you? I understand fully how that phrase can pester others, but it also gets the point across without being too garrulous.

  33. TaylorB says:

Bob wrote: “She quit because of the death threats against her children.”

For crying out loud…I call total BullSh*t! No one made ‘death threats’ against her children. That is the biggest load of crap I have read in quite some time. That kind of comment is exactly what is wrong with the political process on both sides of the aisle, uninformed, easily swayed, fringe people who make wild, false comments based on no evidence just a thing they heard/read from ‘someones sisters friends cousin’ or some such sh*t on the internet. No offense, but if you actually buy into that kind of nonsense you need a serious reality check.

Oh, and I (and the rest of the rational thinking world) do not include actual legitimate ‘crazy’ people making ‘death threats’ because they are the types who make ‘death threats’ against their paper boy because the paper was thrown six inches off the mark, so don’t even try and trot one of those unmedicated morons out as an ‘example’.
