Keira Knightley received her OBE this morning at Buckingham Palace. The OBE is the “Order of the British Empire,” which is only one step up from the lowest civil order, the MBE. The MBE is the “starter award” but a lot of entertainers and artistic types might start out with the OBE, especially if they’re still relatively young. Keira might be on track to eventually be made Commander of the British Empire (CBE), and then later in her career, she’ll be made a Dame (KBE). Some entertainers/artists refuse these orders, but that hasn’t happened much recently. I’m pretty sure the government and Buckingham Palace quietly reach out to people they want to recognize to ensure that they will be willing to show up for the ceremony. Keira was willing.
Keira was not only willing, she seemed to truly take the order in the spirit which it was offered. She brought her husband and her parents to the ceremony, and she got all dressed up in a very chic Chanel suit and hat. Her whole look was a total French mood, honestly. She looks so pleased and proud. The shot of her looking at Prince Charles is completely adorable too.
PS… After all of her hustling, Keira was snubbed for a SAG and Golden Globe nomination for Colette.

Thought the same about Madeline! XD I really dislike the hat and the belt. Love the velvet bow and the dress is fine. But the best part is her face , she seems so truly happy…

Just some minor corrections: I think you meant that OBE is the “Officer of the British Empire”; and that she might later be made a Dame, which would be a DBE, not a KBE.

People always get written to first to find out if they will accept the award before it’s announced publicly. We don’t generally hear about refusals unless the famous person publicly announces their refusal.

I’m surprised Keira was willing to accept an OBE considering when someone asked her about Kate Middleton’s pregnancy with Prince George, Keira said something about not understanding why the Brits still had a monarchy.
