Well, I loved it, saw it twice. My daughter and all her friends loved it, so there’s a new generation of Queen fans.

    • Cee says:

Yes! I loved it so much. I saw it a second time, this time with my mum (in her late 60s) – she introduced me to Queen when I was a toddler. She was crying and singing at the same time. Such a special film for those who love Queen.

  2. Paisley says:

I saw BH and it is a great movie.

    • Milla says:

I am among few who didn’t care for the movie. But the music… Dear lord, i love Queen. Probably the best band in the world.
There are many live performances on YouTube, Freddie was born to be on the stage. His energy is irreplaceable. Even when he went out of key, he was magnificent, cos he was faving fun, he was enjoying every song, he was having a party with all the fans.

  3. French girl says:

I enjoyed Bohemian Rhapsody because of Rami as Freddie and the music but clearly not a good movie about directing or writing ( I know how Hollywood sanitizes the biopics but here it is Disneyland)

    • Vintage says:

      OK, sanitized.

On the upside, it probably introduced a whole new audience to Freddie Mercury. I hope.

Yes, it was sanitized, but I thought the casting was uncanny. Especially Brian May and John Deacon. And I appreciated the protectiveness of the band members over FM. My favorite front man ever, but I bet he was so difficult to work with and yet they still love the man.

  4. me says:

Yikes Shakira ! Tax evasion is serious !

I can’t even believe Snooki has one child, then alone on her third. I watch Jersey Shore Vacation and she is still a mess !

  5. jay says:

Unpopular opinion…Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t that good? I mean the performance scenes were a decent facsimile, but that’s not why I went to see it. The musical elements were prioritized at the expense of the story. The characters weren’t very developed (especially the supporting roles) and I found myself wanting meatier subplots (the relationship with his wife, the time spent recording at the farmhouse, his relationship with his last partner).

Not sure if it was the writing, directing, acting, etc…but something about it fell flat. Also, it was a mistake not to splice in real footage of the original Live Aid to that redundant, masturbatory, excessively CGI’d reenactment at the end. And the prosthetic teeth were Austin Powers bad. Ok, rant over. Still liked it somewhat, but it wasn’t the biopic of a lifetime by any means.

      You might appreciate this, then:

    • Ravensduaghter says:

I think it’s doing so well because Freddie left a huge void when he passed, and people want to experience at least a little bit of him again.
We love and miss you, Freddie…

      • jay says:

Yeah, you’re probably right. But I’m a heartless bish so no excuses for bad storytelling lmao.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

It is doing well because people love Queen, they love those songs, and Freddie had *enormous* charisma and communicated with people on a very personal level. People miss him. I’m no exception: I cried like a baby. The cast was outstanding despite a weak script, the attention to detail was awesome, especially the recreation of the Live Aid concert, and Rami Malek hit it out of the park to the tenth power. He deserves all of his nominations, and I hope he gets an oscar nod. He earned it.

This– AND I completely understand why the Queer community is deeply dismayed by the script. It does Mercury a huge disservice, and depends on some very unfortunate and destructive tropes (the “doomed homsexual,” aids as a “punishment,” etc.) It could easily have been much better. Hey at least they got his relationship to Jim in there. That helped.

    • Jane says:

It’s not a good film, or a good depiction of Freddie (which isn’t Malek’s fault, he did amazing with what he had to work with). It is pretty entertaining if you can turn off your brain or if you don’t actually know much about Queen or Freddie, so I can see why people like it.

It’s better than The Greatest Showman, so that’s something. I thought I was going to be hearing about that pile of crap forever, but Rhapsody seems to have replaced it as the latest musical obsession. Small mercies.

      • jay says:

it’s not a musical tho…it was supposed to be a biopic! it’s just so poorly executed that it conjures the comparison.

    • minx says:

The script was nothing special but the music was a pleasure to listen to, and Rami Malek was great.

      • jay says:

Why didn’t they just make the Queen laser light show they so clearly wanted to? Rami Malek deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for what he did with that role.

      • tealily says:

See, now I would go see a laser light show. Missed opportunity there.

    • supersoft says:

Nah, you’re totally right. It was a bland wannabe movie version of some kids versions of Queen if they would have played in a fairytale.
Maliks performance was just an act, the one who really shocked me was May, he was spot on. But was he married, did he have kids?
      No story there.
And why just not show their original live aid performance?
Bob Geldof was so bad i cringed, a joke figurine.

The movie lacked charme, heart and love, and i never saw that spark which made Freddie so outstanding.

It has written Singer written all over him.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Singer was the wrong director for the job, even thou he was fired half way through filming and Dexter Fletcher took over. I haven’t seen it yet but am told the change in director is noticeable as the plot and performances are all over the place. The comment was if you don’t know anything about Freddie and Queen you will enjoy it, not so much if you remember him and his live performances.

  6. jay says:

Ok, rant not over. Rant reopened.

They also depicted Queen’s rise as super quick and easy. It was Freddy jotting down a line or two on a notepad, proclaiming to himself that it was good stuff, and suddenly they were famous and charting in the US. No depth; no motivations, failures, challenges, etc. Just…topical.

  7. jay says:

Rant, the trilogy: this is a Queen album with some kind of movie-like product happening in the background.

It’s basically a laser light show without the laser lights and I want my money back.

    • Parigo says:

You’re cracking me up Jay. After the piss poor review on Lainey I had no desire to see it. But I already had no desire to see it because I’m one of the only people on earth who doesn’t like their music. Always thought their songs were annoying. I know, me bad.

  8. Chris says:

Great box office numbers doesn”t mean a film is a great work of art.

    • enike says:

the music is the art here, the movie part is a filler
      I loved it
I remember I was starting college when Freddie died and it was nonstop Queen and Freddie songs in our college radio
I was very moved watching the movie, I have to say, a few tears dropped here and there

I missed one thing thou: no Bycycle 🙂

      • Hoot says:

@enike: You said it better than I could have. For those of us who still miss him, it was at least something. I enjoyed the movie regardless of what it could have or should have been.

        @Chris: Bingo.

  9. Rhys says:

Oh, man. All I could think of when I saw the top picture is how smelly that arm band must be…

  10. cupcake says:

I liked it alot, yeah it may not have been spot on but I did enjoy seeing it and miss Freddie being on this earth. There are so many musical geniuses that I’d like to see perform just one more time.

I think I was the only fool sitting up there crying.

  11. SJhere says:

I’m not going to see BR.
I can see the real Freddie and Queen on YouTube whenever I care to watch them.
My word, Freddie was such a huge talent, the voice, the command of the audience…his true life story makes me sad when I think of it.
Freddie was an outstanding talent and one of the best frontmen rock ever had.
The other members of Queen were/are very talented musicians also.
But, I can’t even enjoy them now with guest singers, without Freddie it’s not Queen for me.

  12. Deeanna says:

Adam Lambert is not Freddie and he knows it. He does not try to imitate. But he is a great vocalist – as was Freddie – and Adam sings the Queen songs with a lot of respect.

I too wasn’t too sure if I liked him at first, but the more you hear and see him, the better he has become. He has evolved into the group over these past few years.

    • Shijel says:

Most definitely. I saw Queen live with Adam Lambert. May and Taylor were absolute stars during the show. Lambert was bombastic, but incredibly deferential, he knew he was no Freddie and he didn’t try to be, he just seemed to be absolutely thrilled and honoured to sing there. And his live performance was flawless.

  14. Marc Martel is as close to Mercury as one gets! No offense to Lambert but why is he still touring with Queen? Lol

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

@Daniel Morris: Someone mentioned Marc Martel!! I have not heard him myself, but my brother–who is a GINORMOUS Queen fan absolutely raves about Marc Martel. And my brother is not one to ‘rave’!

  15. Polly says:

So disappointed in Shakira. I thought she was better than that.

  16. Lili says:

I watched it twice. It was pure magic! Everyone I know loved it! I would watch a third time for sure

  17. Sparker says:

Palm reader here: Freddie’s impossibly wide nail beds show that he had no limits and would try anything once as a compulsive risk taker and adrenaline junkie. Little bit of a temper too.

Nothing says irreplaceable like a passable bio pic followed by a sold out tour.
