I really do wish the Grimaldis were as popular as the Windsors, because the Grimaldis have much better gossip, in that the gossip is more old-fashioned: secret babies, paternity tests, conception dungeons, runaway brides, international fistfights and at least one dude who looks like he has a major drug addiction. One of my favorites of the Grimaldi crew is Charlotte Casiraghi, the daughter of Princess Caroline and the late Stefano Casiraghi (an Italian bon vivant). Charlotte doesn’t follow “royal protocols,” perhaps because she doesn’t even have a royal title. I’m not sure she would follow protocols even if she had a title though – she’s beautiful and rich and she does whatever the hell she wants.
Charlotte has a son from her relationship with Gad Elmaleh. She and Gad never married. At some point, she and Gad split and she started up with a guy named Dimitri Rassam. She got pregnant again, and she had another son, Balthazar, about three months ago. Now there are rumors circulating in the European press that Dimitri and Charlotte are on the outs so soon after welcoming their son. Charlotte and Dimitri are taking the rare step of publicly denying the split rumors. Which is interesting.
Monaco’s Charlotte Casiraghi is fighting back against rumors that she and fiancé Dimitri Rassam have split. In a joint statement issued in Paris on Thursday, the couple denied any difficulties in their relationship and announced their intention to go to court against tabloids that have spread stories about their relationship.
Casiraghi, who is the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco, and Rassam, the son of actress Carol Bouquet, welcomed their first son, Balthazar, in October. Sources tell PEOPLE that the couple continue to plan their wedding for later this year.
The brief statement released on the couple’s behalf by Paris publicist Dominique Segall states the “unfounded rumors” are motivated by a desire to create newsstand sales, depicting “conflict” where none exists: “Mademoiselle Charlotte Casiraghi and Monsieur Dimitri Rassam harassed by the scandal press, formally deny all unfounded rumors of their separation which are being circulated,” the statement reads. “The explanation of this cynical and false information is simple: to portray conflict where there is not and never was, with the goal of monetizing it, because the announcement of a separation always motivates good sales. Given the harmful nature of this rumor for themselves, their children and loved ones, they have agreed to ask their lawyer to initiate all legal proceedings, where possible before criminal courts.”
Reports concerning the couple’s split have surfaced in French, Spanish and British news outlets in recent weeks.
Last year, the gossip was that Charlotte and Dimitri were planning a spring wedding, spread out over several countries, with several receptions and wedding services (which is what her brother Pierre did). If they’re still planning the weddings, I wonder if they’re still aiming for spring. As for the gossip that they’ve split… who knows. I find Charlotte to be glamorous and dramatic, and it would not surprise me at all if she had broken up with a lover just a few months after giving birth. But considering they took the time to deny it, I don’t know.

Everyone expects for her to follow into her mother’s dramatics of failed relationships and marriages and what not. So I’m not surprised she took the time to deny something that must be untrue, especially when they’re engaged to be married and parents to a 3 month old son.
Stefano Casiraghi was not a Bon Vivant, he was a rich man, from a very well off family. And an entrepreneur, a real one. He made them richer.
Why do any of those preclude him from being a bom vivant?
And he brought her some stability
That adjective about him surprised me too. I was a child when he and Caroline were all over our mags. He was always portrayed as a discreet, almost shy aristo. Nothing about him exactly screamed epicurian playboy or the food oriented type (which is a bon vivant in french, maybe there’s another meaning in english I’m not aware of).
In English, a “bon vivant” tends to hint at some, let’s say, overindulgence, but it seems to be used here as a synonym for a layabout or something, which it isn’t.
Sometimes K’s reach exceeds her grasp, vocab-wise.
I agree with LP – he gave her stability and they seemed to be very much in love till his death which she took very very hard. He was rather dishy in that aristocratic way.
Stefano Casiraghi wasn’t a bon vivant. He was a speedboat racer and a businessman.
Fortunately the Grimaldis are very popular here in Europe so I read many gossip about them and they’re juicy
No…Stefano was no Prince Aly Khan…not by a LONG shot….and that’s who I think of when I think of a “bon vivant”…
*hasnt broken up with him YET
I always got the vibe that Charlotte was the nice one out of that bunch. There’s a meekness that comes across (wasn’t she rainers favorite?) . Rest of them seem like major jerks. Everything people hate about aristocracy and privilege.
Has anyone any accounts of ever meeting her or pierre and Andrea?
Meh could be true. She and Gad went through rumors of breakup and they made a big show of appearing together at Charlotte’s brother’s wedding (forget which one it was) and a horse show. But I had heard from sources working with Gad in the US while he was establishing his career here in English that they were having issues and pretty much over long before they announced it. (By the way ya’ll should check out Gad’s English Netflix special. People can finally understand why I watched him in French for years in my teens).
I agree that the Grimaldis are far juicier than the Windsors. They just do what they want.
Charlotte looks so much like her mother in these pics.
Yes. Can we have more dope on the Monaco royals. Who had the drug problem?
Just for the sake of accuracy, I’d like to add that Dimitri Rassam is the son of legendary French actress Carole Bouquet.
I just wanted to throw that out there because she embodies class for me and I love her voice!
She, Fanny Ardant and Isabelle Huppert are my forever crushes! 😂
The Grimaldis have the best drama and gossip! IIRC, in her later years Prince Ranier’s mother had a jewel thief as her live-in lover, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. They’re a fascinating family.
Conception dungeons? Anyone has any more info on this one?
I think it’s just a joke about Albert’s wife being locked up and finally agreeing to turkey baster to have kids so he would leave her alone.
I love the Monaco royal family. I was quite young when most of the scandal happened but as far as I know, the best pieces of gossip are :
– Albert’s two illegitimate children, including a son he had with an air hostess from Togo (the kid looked just like him but with caramel skin), and a daughter with a married American woman.
– Stephanie marrying her bodyguard, having two kids with him, and then divorcing him because he was caught by paparazzi literally kissing a Belgian stripper’s behind.
– Charlene trying to run away just before her wedding and getting her passport confiscated. She looked so miserable when she got married. This one was not verified, but damn.
The Monaco royals are much more interesting than the Windsors. It would be nice to read more about them.
I agree with other commenters about the term “bon vivant” used for the late Stefano Casiraghi. I remember him as being quite reserved and a very stabilising influence on Caroline. She was completely devastated by his death.
