Seth Rogen calls Entourage creator an “asshole” and a “moron”

Every morning when I wake up the first thing I think is “I really think Hollywood needs more feuds.” And I’m not being sarcastic – the more feuds in Hollywood, the better my job is. Normally it’s Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan versus someone (or everyone). There aren’t a whole lot of epic guy feuds going on right now. Generally they just punch it out and move on. Luckily, Seth Rogen and the creator of “Entourage,” Doug Ellin have thrown their proverbial hats into the ring and started a guy feud that sounds like it may have the potential to get epically nasty.

In one of its typically late-to-the-game, random cultural broadsides, the writers of Entourage went after Seth Rogen in last night’s episode, calling his “ugliness…oddly fascinating” in a debate over whether the actor could land a Katherine Heigl-type in real life. One might assume that the affable Rogen would shrug off the insult with a friendly, Fozzie-ish chuckle, but they don’t call where Rogen’s at a “fighting weight” for nothing! Behold, his amazing response when asked about the incident for E!’s Daily 10:

“Yeah, those guys are assholes. I actually ran into Matt…Kevin Dillon in a Starbucks. And he’s like ‘you know, I’ve got to kind of apologize because apparently the guy who created our show doesn’t like you so much.’ And I said ‘well I have reason to believe because I think [showrunner] Doug Ellin is a moron from all I can understand so it makes sense he doesn’t like me.’ And I’ve kind of said some disparaging things about the show. Although in our defense, [producer] Mark Wahlberg called us misogynistic in an interview, so I think they kind of started that…It’s on. Luckily I never have and never plan on watching Entourage.”

We would eagerly anticipate a rebuttal from Ellin, but we know how foreign the idea of creating conflict is to the writers of Entourage.

[From Movieline]

There’s a clip of the scene they’re feuding over above. I think it’s moderately funny at best, and definitely a few years too late. But to me the fact that it’s not that funny also makes it less offensive. If they’re really ripped into Seth Rogen (which I’m not suggesting by the way) it could have been a lot better. But it seems sort of half-assed at best. That said, that’s also why I’m so surprised Rogen even cares. He just seems the laugh it off type, but I guess not. I definitely don’t blame him for being pissed – that would flat out hurt most people’s feelings. It just seems more in his “Fozzie-ish” nature (wonderfully apt description, Movieline) to at least pretend to be fine with it and maybe even add a self-deprecating joke or two.

Seth Rogen has always struck me as a decent guy, whereas I’m not a big fan of anyone associated with “Entourage.” But in this case I’m going to have to call it for the show. The joke wasn’t that funny, but it’s what they do and it wasn’t shockingly out of line either. Rogen’s going to have to develop a thicker skin.

While not to defend entourage in any way, I think Seth is a joke. The guy is NOT talented. He plays average joe over and over. His appearance on SNL was terrible. THE ROCK, Dwayne Johnson, was 100 times better than him. Seriously, if it wasn’t for Jud Apatow putting him in everything, he would NOT have a career. He should shut his mouth, take the money and run.

  2. danielle says:

Hmm, don’t think I’d care for Entourage (never watched it) found Seth Rogan funny in the few movies of his I’ve seen. But to be fair, I was watching Zack and Miri, and loving it, and thinking “a broke guy who looks like that does not often get a girl like that in real life”.

  3. Bill Hicks is God says:

Boy, for a dweeb with glasses he doesn’t seem to be too concerned about getting them broken. Spectacles help a nerd get away with talking a lot of smack but they’re not kryptonite dude.

  4. Tia C says:

What an odd story! I enjoy Seth Rogen’s work and I also love Entourage. I saw that episode the other night and thought the running joke was pretty funny about Turtle not buying Rogen’s character hooking up with Heigl’s in “Knocked Up,” as I thought the same exact thing when I saw the film. There is no way that particular hook-up would EVER happen in real life! At the very least, the odds are slim. Yes, the joke is a couple years late, for sure.

But why on earth Rogen wouldn’t just laugh this off is a mystery to me. He should be flattered he got mentioned. Big whoop.

  5. rbsesq says:

Didn’t Seth make a comment in an interview once about how in real life, a guy like him would never get a woman who looks like Katherine Heigl?

  6. Tia C says:

@rbsesq: now that you mention it, that does sound familiar…I think he did. Maybe that’s why I thought this was an odd story that he would be miffed about that joke.

  7. Caitlan says:

    blah

  8. Hieronymus Grex says:

So what’s his appeal again? Other than reminds you of the fat kid who told jokes so you wouldn’t pants him in gym class?

  9. wonder woman says:

IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE! BLAH!

  10. Miggs says:

    Entourage sucks.

  11. CeeJay says:

Entourage hit the nail on the head and the subject was credible as it was “I never get the gal” Turtle (so why would Seth Rogan?) who made the comments. Didn’t know about the Ellin/Rogan fued, but that only makes the whole scene more enjoyable.

All these guys should be laughing their way to the bank and shut-up. Kevin Connolly is the size of a gerbil, Adrian Grenier is far from “Hollywood” gorgeous and Jeremy Piven is a douche.

Having said all that, I’m a fan. I enjoy the over the top, audacious exploitation displayed on the show, and appreciate that Mark Wahlberg, Doug Ellin, Rob Weiss, etc. are sharing some of their insights into what it’s like to be young in Hollywood and the predicaments that come along with the fame and money.

On the other hand, I could hardly watch Knocked-up because the scenario was so unbelievable.

  12. Cinderella says:

I agree, Seth needs thicker skin. Especially considering how unattractive the cast of Entourage is. They are all in the same ugly boat.

  13. michelle says:

I like Seth. I think he is funny and I like the fact that he is like an ordinary person. I think there are lots of Seth like guys with hot chicks and vice versa. I do not necessarily think they look like Seth when they meet the pretty girl, but after a few years they sure do morph into them!
I don’t watch Entourage and never have so I don’t know if I like it or not but I do think that Mark Walberg and Adrien Grenier are totally hot!

  14. I think Turtle making that statement is supposed to be ironic b/c on the show he’s dating Meadow Soprano. Maybe Seth should be flattered that the writers of Entourage think he’s famous enough for the viewers to know who he is.

  15. ! says:

I like Seth but c’mon. You can’t tell me in all the movies he’s done that he hasn’t said something equally scathing about someone. Who knew a guy could be so sensitive about *gasp* being judged solely on the merit of their looks. Don’t feel so nice does it Seth?

  16. tooey says:

They call it “fighting weight” because to get there you have to be hungry and snappish, lol.

I love both Entourage and Seth Rogan and honestly I didn’t take that episode as a stab at Rogen. There is a long history of male/female pairings in movies that wouldn’t happen in real life and would never even happen in a movie if the female were the “old one” or the “ugly one” or the “stoner one”, you know? I thought the episode was kind of taking the piss out of that tradition and just using Rogen and Knocked Up as the most current/relevant example. But I’m a lover, not a fighter, lol.

  17. Fiestarter says:

I actually thought it was funny and I love Entourage. Seth needs to understand that in Hollywood, everyone is fair game, that is life in celebrityville!

  18. Mrs.Darcy says:

I like Entourage, and I think the guy is overeacting, but wasn’t it the same thing when Turtle got together with Meadow Soprano? (er Jamie not sure her last name). Yeah they laughed and didn’t believe he was with her but he did get the girl. (Well they are just starting the latest season in the U.K. so not sure how it pans out, but still…same thing?)

  19. mxml says:

i thought it was a bit much. he didn’t call him ugly once or twice, but like 7 times or something. it was a little harsh almost like they were trying to piss him off.

  20. Scout says:

Definitely on team Rogen. Love the guy.
    Entourage? Not so much.

  21. Caitlan says:

    To wonder woman,
I didn’t mean that about Seth Rogan. I actually wrote a really long paragraph more in his favor and then deleted it and left blah because I decided it just was’n’t worth leaving a comment on. FYI, you have to leave a different comment if you already wrote something, in order to change it. I tend to run on a lot, so that’s why I decided to just erase it and leave blah.

  22. hello! says:

Looks like success has gone to Rogen’s fat head. This guy is the luckiest man in Hollywood. SO MANY better actors out there!

  23. notsoanonymous says:

I do think the reason it is being brought back up now is because the show is filmed quite a while before it is broadcast. Its an HBO series, and HBO apparently is on a mission to screw with the fans of all its shows by stretching the gaps between seasons into unbearable and …

sorry got off topic there 😉

I’m just about to watch the episode actually on DVR, love the show. I’m sure it has to do with the Jamie Lynn Sigler storyline… the only funny part to me is that Jerry Ferrara and Jamie ended up actually getting together and last I read they are still going strong.

So maybe Seth Rogan could get a girl after all if he would stop whining.

  24. notsoanonymous says:

also @rbsesq and @tia C: Damn sure I read that a long time ago too. Seth has really made me laugh in the last few years but he needs to stop acting like such a baby about this comment.

  25. Ned says:

I like Entourage, but they kept emphasizing how “ugly” he was.

I don’t find him funny or charming enough to be in those movies, so that’s the main problem I have with him. I don’t think he is “ugly”. For a leading guy they could have chosen a nicer looking guy, but that’s not the main problem.

  26. Rob Redstone says:

It’s only making SETH MORE FAMOUS! So who cares! You know your somebody when they talk about you on Entourage..

    @RobRedstone

  27. TheObvious says:

Just to clear up why Seth Rogen is famous… he’s a writer! So for those who think he’s a bad actor, that’s fine but that is not the reason he’s famous. Ever heard of movies like “Pineapple Express” or “Superbad” or a little tv show called “Da Ali G Show”? He had a big hand in all of those.

So to “hello!”, congrats, your point was proven but made completely irrelevant.

  28. nen says:

I saw the interview of seth rogen w/ jonah hill on E! He didnt seem bothered by the Entourage joke too much. He did call them assholes, but said it in a jokingly matter. Even said he was only kidding. As for callin Ellin a moron, I cant say that he didnt mean that, but I believe he said that he pitched a show idea similar to entourage and he believed that his would have been better.

I think Entourage is a great show, and Seth Rogen is pretty good at was he does as well. Gotta remember people it is all fictional when it comes to his characters, thats why they are movies…

  29. Ophelia says:

    Team Rogen!!!

  30. Aspie says:

    Team Neither!

Entourage is just not that funny and neither is Seth Rogan (nor are any Judd Apatow films!)

  31. Will says:

This is isn’t coming to anyone’s defense, but, I have any objection to the article saying that because the joke really wasn’t funny, Rogen should’ve shrugged it off. Actually, I think it may have been the opposite, if it HAD BEEN funny, Rogen, as a comedian, may have appreciated the comedy and moved on. It was because the joke was late and unfunny that it seems more pointed and mean-spirited.

  32. Ashley says:

Come on, don’t any of you guys ever talk with your friends about lingering issues you have with movies that came out years ago? Hell, I still need someone to help me figure out why Demi Moore chose Woody Harrelson over Robert Redford (Indecent Proposal). Seth needs to lighten up – as many of you pointed out, it was TURTLE who made the comments…Turtle, like Seth, is lovable, but not necessarily a Brad Pitt clone.

  33. jon11carolina says:

1st of all, Entourage is a good show probably because of the Ari character but it seems to me Seth Rogan didn’t like the creator for whatever reason way before he commented about the show. So I don’t think he’s mad at what they said he just doesn’t like’em period. For the record he’s written alot of his own movies to who ever said if it wasn’t for Judd apatow he would’nt have a career. Anyway, I hope both the show keeps spitting out good material and Seth Rogan keeps making funny movies

  34. Marianne says:

Yeah, anyone who conceives Entourage deserves to be called asshole and moron. But the funniest thing is that most of the Apatow produced movies are like recollections of the same machismo and general dumbness presented in Entourage. And Seth is the biggest star of it all.

  35. Lane Cramer says:

Thanks for the ideas shared on your blog. Something also important I would like to say is that weight reduction is not exactly about going on a celebrity diet and trying to shed as much weight as you’re able in a set period of time. The most effective way in losing weight is by taking it gradually and obeying some basic ideas which can enable you to make the most from a attempt to lose weight. You may learn and be following these tips, although reinforcing understanding never damages.
