Octomom Nadya Suleman “documentary” is coming – to Fox

The Fox Channel snapped up all the unseen footage from Radar Online’s sometimes-funny often-scary video interviews with Nadya Suleman. A two hour special featuring delusional Octomom and her 14 unfortunate kids will air on August 19. Instead of including voice-over narration, they’re wisely letting Nadya hang herself with her own conflicting overshares. Judging from the clip of the show available on E! Online, it looks like Nadya’s creepy interview over fondue features heavily. That’s when she admitted that the octuplets’ biological father was unaware that she was using embryos created from his sperm to get pregnant again this hopefully final time, saying things like “I feel so much guilt for that,” and “I live in denial. I blame myself,” but quickly deflecting responsibility for having eight at once. “How am I supposed to know more than one would grow?” she sniped, in a reference to all the blastocysts/embryos she had implanted. (She claimed she only had six implanted but some fertility experts say that it’s statistically impossible* that two would split while others say that it’s possible due to the fertility drugs she was taking. Given how often this woman lies, I would say that she had all eight implanted.)

The NY Times’ Media Decoder has a good overview of the business decisions involved in this Octomom special. It looks like Fox bought the rights to the footage from Radar Online, and that this is a separate deal from whatever she’s filming for that British company to be made into the “documentary” she’s working on:

Using footage that begins shortly after Nadya Suleman, popularly known as “Octomom,” gave birth to octuplets in January, Fox Broadcasting will present a two-hour television special on Ms. Suleman, her children and family on Aug. 19, the network said Monday.

Fox bought the rights to broadcast the special from Pilgrim Films and Television, a reality-television production company that obtained the footage from RadarOnline.com, a Web publication that struck an early deal to film Ms. Suleman and her family.

The special could reignite debate over the well-being of the children and the media frenzy that surrounded their birth. Ms. Suleman has signed at least two television deals related to coverage of the birth and raising of the octuplets.

One of those deals, signed with RadarOnline and which forms the basis of the Fox special, resulted in citations alleging violations of California labor department regulations regarding the use of children in filmed entertainment. Ms. Suleman recently signed a second reality-television deal with a British producer, Eyeworks, and she is also the subject of ongoing litigation over the need for a court-appointed guardian to oversee the children’s finances.

Mike Darnell, the president for alternative entertainment at Fox Broadcasting, said in an interview that Fox wanted to do the special, which he said was “a documentary in its purest form,” because Ms. Suleman was “an incredibly compelling figure.”

Give me a break on the “documentary” crap. The only reason Fox is issuing that statement is to placate Octomom, who has said multiple times that she’s so much better than Kate and Jon Gosselin because her shows will be “more documentary style, monitoring [her children’s growth and development,” and “more intellectual and educational, not so superficial.” I hope that’s the only provision Fox had to make for Suleman, and that she’s not getting paid a second time for the footage. I doubt that they have much more than Radar and I’d be surprised if they’re able to put any other angle on it.

In the Radar videos, Suleman ripped up Kate Gosselin’s bikini photos, got visibly jealous of Gosselin several times, fought with her mother on camera and admitted that she lied to her about every single one of her pregnancies – telling her mom they were “tumors,” got a tattoo featuring herself as an angel, and bragged about the size of her tongue. How are they going to spin that into anything but a portrait of a disturbed, narcissistic woman using the system, her family, and her children to fill her own sick needs? Maybe all they have to do is tell her it’s a documentary and that will be enough to show her in all her obnoxious, self-serving glory.

(*The issue of the six vs. eight implanted embryos was discussed in an earlier story we covered. The “statistically impossible” quote I heard on NPR in February and I’m sorry I don’t have a better source as it’s hard to google.)

August 19? Cool. I’ll plan on skipping the Fox channel if I do any surfing. *shudder*

  2. kerri says:

if 2 eggs split wouldn’t there be 2 sets of identical twins and 4 other kids? or one set of triplets plus five other kids. I think this chick is crazy and lying I bet there were 8 implanted.

  3. Candi says:

I have no interest whatsoever in seeing a documentary on Octomom.I think she’s very mentally unfit, and narcissistic to boot.

I wish this woman’s 15 minutes of fame would go away, seriously.

  4. Diane says:

    No thank you.

I think it’s terrific she isn’t in the daily headlines.

  5. yae says:

And they are showing this because (?) they wish to piss off every responcible, reproductively capable human on the planet? I’m in no way, shape or form going to validate this litter producing, social parasite with a rating on my digital cable box. As a result the whole station is getting blocked 24/7. Thats about all they will accomplish in my home with this garbage.

  6. amy says:

Well, any and all respect for the Fox Network has vanished. I thought she was gone from the headlines. GO AWAY!

  7. barneslr says:

That is one program I absolutely will not watch.

But I’ll enjoy reading about it here, I’m sure!

  8. yae says:

I agree Amy. It’s as if (for ratings) they take the very things we DETEST and show them hoping we are too curious to resist. And in the process it becomes a total issue of ethical degradation. Octomom just turned off my entire home viewing of their channel. That may last a lifetime as far as I’m concerned. I’m angry about being manipulated with this kind of programming.

Time for Samara to crawl back into the well…

  11. sdfsd says:

not. watching. ever. would. rather. staple. eyes. shut. than. have. to. see.

  12. TaylorB says:

What an attractive expression on her face in that top photo. And clearly those lips of hers are real.

  13. Katyusha says:

Is it a coincidence that photo stills are of her always caught making a stupid face?
Or maybe she’s just always making those stupid faces, so the odds are good.

  14. blondie says:

My opinion sooo agrees with yours.Of course it’s a compelling story, didn’t she say that she was
almost compelled to take care of them?
How could anyone listen to her screech and squeal for 2 HOURS? She might have to move to
    the UK after this airs.
I hope if it does air, the kids will be the only
ones who benefit.I would hate to think about
how many shopping sprees they have already
    financed with these DOCUMENTARIES!
    Born to work!

  15. Kerri says:

While i am not a doctor, i was always under the impression that doctors tend to impregnate a person with more embryos than the amount that actually turn into babies. Which means that maybe she implanted more than eight in the first place especially considering the point made earlier about the eggs not being able to split. But i stand corrected subject to someone with more knowledge on the issue.

I just don’t understand why the government is allowing her to exploit those poor children.

  16. Gigohead says:

I’m wondering if the sound of her voice will drive the mosquitoes away! Perhaps I can raise the volume of the TV and scare away vermit as well that creep into my house. LOL. I think if that would work it would be the only way I’d watch this show.

  17. jackie says:

I’ve gone to 2 different clinics and the policy is the same. Under 35, you get 2 embryos. Over 35, you get 3. Now these are guidelines only. Implanting her with 6 or 8 isn’t illegal but is very unethical.

  18. Donna says:

No thanks- can’t stand the thought of watching and hearing her cackle and lie for 2 hours. 3 minutes at a time was more than enough with the RO videos.

This is just another example of how she and her handlers are attempting to sqeeze every last dime out of her 15 minutes of infamy.

Please make her go away. And for Heavens sake, will the State of California PLEASE step in and protect those children?!!!

  19. Jazz says:

This woman is still three bags of crazy!

  20. the original kate says:

    go away, please.

  21. Magsy says:

Damn, I was enjoying not hearing about octopussy mom.

  22. tasteT says:

    Well, I guess I’ll be boycotting Fox…

    no damn thank you!

  23. KIDSat RISK-karen Lee says:

OCTOMOM (per the FOX preview footage):
” … her deep regret for her latest round of multiple births …”

THE ONLY REGRET OCTO-LEACH HAS IS:
NOT GETTING AWAY WITH THE CON SHE TRIED TO PERPETRATE ON THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

IT STARTED WITH DR PHIL ENABLING HER. AS HE WAS UNABLE TO DEMAND straight answers FROM HER.

HE gave HER a national audience to start her BEG-A-THON … ENABLING HER to BRING THE POOR BABIES HOME …

EVERY STEP SHE’S MADE, SHE PLANNED …

Except: she never counted on the revulsion Americans would feel toward anyone TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH SOMETHING.

At the EXPENSE of kids she WANTONLY brought into this world .. without a care FOR THEM.

AMERICANS hate ANYONE trying to get away w/ANYTHING.

  24. Deborah Mitchell says:

The media and society that supports octomom have loss track of their morale standards. It is obvious that she organized a plan to have this many children only to make money. I believe this is considered exploitation and “FOX” is supporting this plot by putting her on the air.

I refused to watch the program and wish octomom would go away somewhere.

  25. Lilith says:

I watched it and needless to say she shouldn’t have done the documentary. It made her appeared to be more selfish and delusional than we all thought. I still am having a hard time believing that was possible. Here Kate Gosslin bashing really made me want to jump through the screen and choke her.
