Everyone was talking about Idina Menzel last night. She did a great performance of “Into the Unknown” from Frozen 2, accompanied by international singers who did lines in their own language. It was moving. This was the first time she had performed since 2014, which was when John Travolta called her Adele Dazeem. Josh Gad made a joke about it in his presentation speech and the freestyle rapper, Hamilton star Utkarsh Ambudkar, somehow whipped up a song about everyone who had won so far that night and included a reference to her too. Then, as Kaiser covered in our recap post, Idina had a viral moment of the night when she was head bopping to Eminem’s performance.
Idina was in an impressive dark pink strapless J. Mendel gown with Harry Winston jewels. I like the bow at the waist, it’s big but not fussy. Bows can go wrong so easily. She was there with her husband of three years, fellow actor/singer Aaron Lohr.
America Ferrera was in a red Alberta Ferretti empire waist gown with tiered cap sleeves. What is going on at the shoulder area? It’s very odd. I’m sorry but I don’t like the gold braid on her forehead either. Does she get a pregnancy pass for this one? I’m thinking no, but it’s really not that bad.
Chrissy Metz was in a red off the shoulder Christian Siriano with a ruched neckline and chiffon skirt. Chrissy performed the song “I’m Standing With You” from her movie Breakthrough. She can really sing, which I should have known already but I was impressed. Her hair stood out to me when she was performing. It’s surely extensions but it looks so natural.

I like Chrissy Metz’s dress. The red is a great color and I like the cut across the shoulders. Nice that Christian Siriano is willing to dress women of all sizes.
Braids across the forehead are always a NO. I don’t know why anyone thinks this is a good look.
I wouldn’t mind it if it was all under or all over her hair, it wouldn’t be my favourite but non offensive, this half in/out makes her head look weirdly wide in pictures.
Yeah, it’s a super weird look. Not feeling it.

America Ferrera looked amazing except for the hair and that awful headband. Change that hairstyle and the look becomes 100% gorgeous- the color was beautiful and the cut of the gown falls beautifully.
Idina Menzel – poor girl. The color is okay, but the combination of the cut and the fabric make her look dumpy.

I didn’t even recognize America. I get what she was going for with the headband… but I think it was a detriment to the look. Maybe a different headband would have worked better?
The color of Idina’s dress is stunning on her. I love it, and I don’t think I’d change a thing.
The shade of red lip that Chrissy is rocking is a great color on her. I’d love to find out the ID on that.

I actually didn’t like the bow on Idina’s gown. It needed to actually be structured or not exist for me. The rest looks good though.

All of these folks have more money than god. But they stand there with their gowns – worth more than most folks’ cars – puddling on the floor. It’s terrible! Only the Siriano is the correct length.

I always wondered that! I’m thinking alot of those gowns are on loan and they just have to make due. They’re probably wearing 6 inch heels under them.
Idina and Chrissy both look great. I enjoyed all of the reaction shots of Idina in the audience. She seemed to be relaxed and enjoying herself. I heard Chrissy singing from the next room but didn’t realize it was her right away. She has a great voice!
Ok 1: Does anyone know that Idina Menzel’s Hubby was Portman from The Mighty Duck’s Movies? That blew me away! and 2: Not a big fan of the headband thing that America is rocking,but she referenced it on her IG as being an homage to her ancestory and even included pictures of women in the Lenca (?) tribe wearing similar headpieces.
Yes, it is Portman. And I don’t think he is an actor anymore. He got his certification in drug counseling and that is his occupation now.
Unless he has returned to the screen I have not seen it.
I love that hot fuchsia dress on Idina. Think she carried it off well. But I agree with the comment or above: I wish that more of them would pay attention to the length of their hem. Most of them are too long.
