I hate it when celebrity gossip and sports collide. This is because I always feel like an idiot trying to make even a passing reference to anything sports-related. I just don’t follow anything involving balls, really. Anyway, it seems there’s a catfight brewing in the wives-and-girlfriends (WAG) box (box, right?) at Yankees games. The rivalry is between Kate Hudson, who is dating Alex Rodriguez, and Minka Kelly, who is dating Derek Jeter. Honestly, I kind of though A-Rod and Jeter were the same person, that’s how little I know about it. It seems A-Rod and Jeter have some kind of rivalry going on, which may be the cause of the coldness between Kate and Minka. Or it could be a bit of professional jealousy, or Kate could just rub people the wrong way… or Minka could be a horrible person. Really, who knows? According to a source, the girlfriend-rivalry is making people “choose sides”.
SHE made it past third base with Alex Rodriguez, but Kate Hudson isn’t getting a warm reception at the plate from Minka Kelly, longtime squeeze of Yankee captain Derek Jeter.
At home games in The Bronx, things between the two photogenic actresses are frostier than the new stadium’s $9 beer, according to spies.
“There’s been visible coldness between Minka and Kate,” an insider told The Post’s Lachlan Cartwright. “I don’t know if it’s a personal thing, or just an extension of the ongoing A-Rod-Jeter rivalry.”
Our source added, “People are choosing sides.”
“Friday Night Lights” hottie Kelly has been dating Jeter since last year. Since then, she’s usually cheered him on from his private seats, kept a low profile and has rarely been photographed with him.
Then, high-profile Hudson arrived on the scene. She’s been snapped smooching A-Rod in the stands, and recently switched from sitting in a private box to hanging in the family seats, cheering on the team with Yankee wives including Amber Sabathia and Karen Burnett.
Hudson, who also enthusiastically attended the Bombers’ family picnic, seems to have gotten an early thumbs-up from veteran Yankee wives Michelle Damon and Laura Posada, whose stamp of approval is crucial, a source said.
Reps for Hudson and Kelly didn’t respond to requests for comment.
Kevin Spence, who ranks player wives and girlfriends on WAGrankings.com, noted: “It would be the best reality show ever if they would allow a camera to follow them around. I think tensions and jealousy will grow in time.”

I had to look up Minka Kelly to make sure she was the girl I was thinking of. She wasn’t. Minka gives off a Leighton Meester vibe to me, does anyone else see it? Anyway, it seems Minka and Kate are very close in age, and now they’re very close in proximity. I tend to think it’s probably professional jealousy – Kate is a movie star, while Minka is begging for the tenth-billed part in an independent film. I really hope they’re not letting their boyfriends’ beef pour into the WAG box.

Sorry but even though I’ve never heard of Minka Kelly, do not watch FNL either, the only reason why Kate is the bigger star is because of her mom and stepdad, she just an average actress, whose more famous for her revolving door of famous boyfriends.
Exactly “maddie”, Kate is mostly famous due to her parents as her movie career is not that stellar. Plus she looks rode hard and put away wet.

I’ve seriously never understood what made Kate Hudson so appealing. I love Minka’s look (10x better than Leighton Meester EH) and I’m a big Friday Night Light’s fan. I only wish FNL didn’t turn Minka’s character into such an annoying one.
While I am grateful for any & all game-winning homers A-Rod hits for my Yankees, his ho needs to sit down b/c Jeter is The Captain: Captain Clutch in the Post-season, Captain Good Example to Kids, Captain Doesn’t Make an Embarassing Spectacle of Himself Even When He Dated Mariah Carey. Therefore his gf is better than A-Roid’s gf. Low profile = less distraction.

Minka is not well liked at the stadium, and Kate is. Minka is not well liked by the Yankee WAGs, and Kate is. Kate is even being embraced by the owners and managers–not Minka. Look, it’s not a competition between them. They are individuals. It’s just that Minka has no personality and is a bit stuck up. Kate is just the opposite. Hey Anonymous, as an avid Yankee fan, I’m VERY curious as to how YOU know so much! Please dish!! Any examples of stuff that Minka’s done to turn people off? I looked for her in that bunch of pics that came out of Kate in the WAG box, and don’t see her anywhere. I wish they could label those 3 other wives!
No specific examples of rudeness, just aloofness and not allowing pictures and rarely giving autographs. I just don’t think she has the power in that relationship to be herself–she is doing what Jeter wants at the games and that is to basically sit down and shut up. So I don’t personally blame her. The other wives in the pictures I see are CC’s wife and Damon’s wife. Also, Kate threw a birthday bash for Alex and most of the Yankees came–but not Jeter. I say let bygones be bygones.
I’m not surprised the owners are “warming up to Kate”–she’s already brought Goldie Hawn and Kurt freaking Russell! She can attract big names to the game and I’m sure they see the $$ racking up. She can help launch the game of baseball to new heights if she can get the rest of Hollywood interested!
Also, in KH’s defense, I hear that she’s really likable, as is Goldie, but with none of the inner strength her mom has.

I fell in love with Minka when i fell in love with fNLS. She is a brilliant actress as and has always come across as a sweet girl with no negative press. A friend of mine was Kate’s make up artist on that movie with owen wilson & said she was the biggest bitch ever. Wouldn’t answer questions or speak to her at all. team minka for sure!!

Actually Jeter isn’t an attention whore and keeps a low profile, which is why you never read any gossip about him. Minka sits with his parents in the private box to watch the games. This is such a non story but the press will look for any juicy tidbit to try and write about Jeter. Alex and Kate like being the center of attention, let them have it.
