Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow have made out with a lot of costars, on and off-screen. That being said, I wouldn’t say that either of them are really known for having a lot of sexy or fun chemistry with their leading men? For years, Kate was a rom-com queen, but I never really thought she had chemistry with many of them. Gwyneth was always more on the dramatic side, and she’s made out with people like Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, Joseph Fiennes, Luke Wilson, Jude Law, Viggo Mortensen, Daniel Craig, Robert Downey Jr and many more. Surely one of them was a good kisser? She’ll never say. This subject came up on The Goop Podcast, where Kate Hudson and Gwyneth talked about kissing costars.
Kiss and tell! Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow shaded some of their costars as they reminisced about their awkward onscreen make-outs and which actor passed the kiss test.
“Honestly, I feel like I kind of haven’t had the best kissers,” Hudson, 41, told Paltrow, 48, on the Tuesday, October 13, episode of “The Goop Podcast” podcast. “I feel like I should have had better ones.”
The Bride Wars actress got real about her longtime friend and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days costar — who she also starred alongside in 2008’s Fools Good — Matthew McConaughey’s smooching skills. “Every time I kiss McConaughey, I mean, it’s like there’s just something happening and there’s like snot or wind,” Hudson said before breaking into laughter. “Like when we were kissing, like, in the end of Fool’s Gold, we’re like in the ocean, we had the plane crash, he just had snot all over his face.”
Paltrow asked if Hudson’s dynamic with McConaughey, 50, feels brotherly rather than romantic, to which she replied, “I think yeah, it can be a little sibling-y at times. But no.”
The Goop creator, however, admitted that making out with her Iron Man love interest, Robert Downey Jr., felt like hooking up with her sibling. “With Robert, like, when I kissed him, I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. This is literally like kissing my brother.’”
The Pretty Fun author revealed that there was one onscreen partner who passed her good kisser standards, Almost Famous costar Billy Crudup. “You know who is a good kisser, but you didn’t see it because they cut it out? [It] was Billy,” Hudson said. “Billy was good. That was good.”
Yeah, I would imagine Billy Crudup is a good kisser. Likely a terrible person, but yeah, a good kisser. I actually think RDJ is probably a terrible kisser in general? Hm. Gwyneth definitely could have spilled more tea – I bet Ben Affleck is a sloppy kisser on-screen and in life. I bet Daniel Craig is a GREAT kisser. Joseph Fiennes as well! Oh well – I can’t believe Kate made Matthew McConaughey sound so unsexy!! LMAO.

Acting is the only legal profession where kissing someone is part of the job. It must be weird to be an actor or actress and have to toe that line between on-screen chemistry, getting along on-set, and not getting too close to your co-stars if you’re in a serious relationship (see Lily James snd Dominic West). So, yeah, I can see where it would be weird to suddenly be kissing your co-stars.
I LOVE your screen name! I need the shirt!
Thanks for making my day, Darla! I’m not usually clever with screen names or pet names, so I am proud of this one.
I haven’t given much thought to how difficult it must be to do love scenes with someone you are attracted to, while staying faithful in your relationship. I am sure that is tough. But I have thought about how hard it must be for women when the guy is a complete pig off screen and he disgusts you. Or in the case of what Paltrow says here, a brotherly relationship has developed over the years. That would be gross. Now, snot running down his face? That should be reason to halt filming. Come on.
I feel like this is one of those topics that actors never really talk about, but I wish they did so more often! And get Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts to add in their two cents lol.
You know who looks like a terrible kisser? Collin Firth. Every time I watch Love Actually, and he kisses the lady he’s just proposed to, I cringe bc he looks like he’s really bad at kissing. Haha these ladies need to dish more!
I love Colin Firth and don’t want to believe he’s a bad kisser, but in the Love Actually scene with the girlfriend who cheats on him, he gives her a kiss that looks like he’s trying to chew off her face!
Mr. Darcy is a fabulous kisser and I won’t hear anything different.
I wonder what would be the reaction if it was Matthew who said this about Kate: “ew. Not a good kisser. Had snot all over her”. As for Goopy, she did kiss quite a colourful bunch, I would love to hear her spill some tea but at this point in her life, she probably thinks that she was every man’s best kiss and she thought half of Hollywood how it’s done properly and well.
Did these two insufferable twits ever consider that maybe they were lousy kissers? I cannot stand Kate Hudson. No talent has been. Goopy is an arrogant tool
B, I feel the same way, I can’t stand either Kate or Gwyneth. Neither has any talent & I don’t know who they are to judge anyone’s kissing skills.
I agree. To me, these two come off as mean girls.
Two blonde daughters of Hollywood talking about all the men they kissed and I am so bored
These grown ass women in a hollywood clique talking about kissing. They belong in high school. All they need is J Aniston, R witherspoon for their mean girl air head brigade.
I hate that I know this, but Gwyneth has always said her best onscreen kiss was Tom Cruise! I was confused because I couldn’t figure out what they starred in together but it was that fun little cameo at the start of one of the Austin Powers movie. If you watch it on Youtube it definitely does look like a decent enough smooch. Another one that always springs to my mind is Paul Rudd & Alicia Silverstone’s kiss at the end of Clueless. The guy likes tongue is all I can say…
Yes as a kid watching clueless on cable i do remember thinking that about the kiss, wondering if most adults kissing are that sloppy looking?
I always wondered about Richard Gere. Before American Gigolo he did a WWII movie called Yanks. It’s more a love story than a war movie, great cast. Anyway, he kisses this one girl and I just melted. I was looking at it through 16 yr old eyes so I might not have the same reaction today, but I’ve always wondered since then. I may need to watch the movie again for research.
The excerpts make it sound as if they chose to talk about men who feel like brothers on purpose so they could laugh about it without offending anyone, it’s not meant to be taken seriously guys!
I would imagine Daniel Craig is a great kisser, he’s so damn sexy. I would like to think Jon Hamm is, too.
I think I’ve read somewhere that Angelina Jolie said Daniel Craig was a good kisser.
I’ve always had a crush on Luke Wilson and I so want to know if he’s a good kisser! I bet he is!!
