48 year-old Marie Osmond passed out after her live samba dance with partner Jonathan Roberts on Dancing with the Stars last night. She was standing in front of the judge’s table with Roberts, initially jumping up and down a lot from excitement after her performance. She was smiling and joking around and then all of a sudden she closed her eyes and slumped to the floor. You can see judge Len Goodman, who was critiquing at the time, look visible concerned. The audience fell silent and host Tom Bergeron cut to commercial.
When they came back from commercial she had recovered and handled it well, saying she was fine and that “Once in a while this happens to me when I get winded and I stop breathing. I’m so sorry.” Osmond and Roberts received 21 out of 30 possible points from the judges for their routine.
Here’s the video. She faints at about 48 seconds in.
Four couples have been eliminated so far on Season 5 of Dancing with The Stars, with eight remaining. Melanie B of The Spice Girls and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy scored the highest last night with 29 points for the samba. Marie Osmond and her partner were tied for last with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and his partner Kym Johnson. The results show airs tonight and will depend on call in votes from viewers as well as judges’ ratings. Since Osmond fainted, she probably got a lot of sympathy call in votes and it’s unlikely she’ll be eliminated this week.
