The AMAs were last night and I’m not going to pretend like I watched them, but Kaiser did! You can read her thoughts on the audience and the setup here. There is a feeling of relief around the scaled-back awards for us because we don’t have to stay up past our bedtimes trying to catch every moment. There’s also the issue of awards shows being out of touch with current reality. We want to be entertained, but we don’t want to be reminded of the extreme class divide when it comes to how we’re dealing with the pandemic.
That’s all to say – where are the masks on the red carpet? Wouldn’t it be nice to see some sparkly matching masks? There were masks in the scaled-back audience and on some of the backup dancers at least. Yes we’re getting vaccines and hopefully soon but in the mean time the most privileged of the population can show solidarity and awareness by wearing masks. Also celebrities set fashion trends. The US could stem this virus so much if masks were are popular here as in Asian countries particularly. Let’s make them normalized and common.
Host Taraji P. Henson was one of the many women in metallic. She had on a Armani Prive sack dress. That turban is awesome and I would like to see turbans and head wraps on the red carpet too. Those shield things don’t work well, just FYI. A segment from Taraji’s presentation is below and Just Jared has some gifs of her twerking to open the show.

Presenter Cara Delevingne was in an incredible metallic Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo suit paired with a skintone bustier. How can I get my hair to look like that?

Bebe Rexha had on a sequin Julien Macdonald cutout dress. I’m not digging her hair but I like all these sparkly holiday-type looks.

Doja Cat was in a puffy brown gathered gown by Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood. This is just ok. Doja won new artist of the year last night. She performed with Bebe and you can see gifs from their performance here.

Becky G won Favorite Female Artist – Latin and she dedicated her award to immigrants, which was nice. She was in Ralph and Russo and I feel like we’ve seen this dress several times before.

Laverne Cox is giving me Jane Fonda in Barbarella vibes in this copper Michael Costello half dress! It must be her hair.

Paris Hilton was in a very short sequin Valdrin Sahiti. Paris has been consistent with her fashion for years, I’ll say that. Paris posted a video of her posing on stairs in this outfit. She stumbled for a moment, which was cute actually.
We just hope to make 2020 a little brighter with our show tonight! ❤️ #AMAs pic.twitter.com/qfHrwBxZ8Z

Doja always looks like she’s was gifted her look by an old, broke, sugar daddy. Just ugly and cheap.
To answer your Cara Delvigne hair question. Do big barrel curls with a big circumfrence size curling iron (sorry, can’t remember what size I have or know what they’re called) all in the same direction and gently brush it out with a boar’s hair brush. It’s actually a pretty easy style to accomplish. It’s the only fancy hair style I know how to do.
Chanel just released a 2020/2021 “cruise collection” starring Lily Depp, who cannot WAIT to wear her Chanel clothes on the French Riveria.
Gavin Newsome went to a birthday party in CA, and both Dems and republicans in CA went on some junket to Hawaii I believe it was.
And frankly, now with the monoclonal antibody therapy which saved Trump, Christie and now Ben Carson, we know that the rich WON’T die anyway. But we are not getting those meds. There aren’t enough. Only the very rich and powerful will get them. Celebrities will also get them. So no, they won’t die. The dying is for the rest of us and our loved ones.
Masks ON.
There are pics of Kate Beckinsale in matching white and gold dress and mask on a red carpet somewhere and she looks amazing. Designers and celebs need to make this happen now. Yes vaccines/treatments developing but we need to see people normalising masks every single day right now as we’ve got at least a few more months of distancing and protecting ourselves and the people around us from this thing.
From across the Atlantic in a country in partial lockdown I am honestly shocked that these events are happening. Masks or no masks. Just…. people are dying. I don’t mean to poop on everyone’s mood but why are these people participating?
I’m here in the states and shocked they’re happening as well. We’re having a huge surge, including in California, and there is no reason that something as frivolous as the AMAs have to happen with an audience. It’s gross, selfish, and disrespectful.
Some people here in Germany are being jerks of course, protesting their oppression and sh*t, comparing themselves to Anne Frank and Sophie Scholl. It’s madness. At least the government won’t allow these events. But people do still party in private. I want to slap them. And I judge these celebrities harshly.
are these people for real?? it’s a pandemic! wear a mask, stay home, an awards event is not an essential task ffs!
I can’t believe these events are happening and these people are participating. It’s a slap in the face to every American whose job requires them to be in public right now, to every nurse, doctor, janitor, grocery store worker, meat packer, postal worker, etc., etc. It’s super disappointing to see this happening. Wealth, privilege, and ignorance on display.
Second that. F##k these vain assholes.
Agreed with all of these comments. We are entering another horrible phase of the pandemic and it’s just so tone deaf to be acting like none of this is happening. This thing could be OVER and life close to normal if everyone – everyone!! – sacrificed and stayed home. We’re all sucking it up – why can’t they?
I saw videos of airports across America yesterday on the news, FILLED with people flying home or flying away for Thanksgiving. Americans are truly on another level of stupid. The award show last night was no exception.
Someone I know posted a photo of her daughter’s soccer team. About 25 teenagers all gathered closely together for a photo, no masks. I’m so frustrated and angry.
Paris Hilton is a racist waste of space.
Laverne Cox is a goddess.
I was watching NCIS New Orleans last night and was pleased to see them dealing with the pandemic and wearing masks. BUT almost every time 2 main characters got close enough together to speak, they took off their masks! 😱
Nice try, but no.
I concur with @Ariel about the goddess-ness of Laverne Cox!
