Every film and TV production schedule has been thrown out of whack over the past year because of the pandemic. It’s that simple. People are rightly concerned about doing stuff in person, whether it’s filming an in-person interview with a crew, or actually trying to film a movie or scripted television show. As the pandemic surges yet again, TV production schedules are once again being delayed. Before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex scored their huge Netflix deal, Harry signed up for a collaborative Apple TV+ series about mental health. He was doing the series with Oprah and it was a big deal. It’s still a big deal. But everything has been delayed, which brings me to this:
Prince Harry’s much-anticipated Apple TV+ series has stalled despite being in the making for more than two years. The mental health documentary serial was due to be released last autumn with Harry, 36, working alongside Oprah Winfrey, 66. But several delays mean it is now not expected to arrive until later in 2021.
No firm release date has yet been announced.
Insiders say Covid-19 restrictions, Harry’s exit from the Royal Family and move to the US with Meghan, 39, have slowed down production. Filming schedules are believed to have been changed by the upheaval. The postponement was kept under wraps as “delays never look good”. But the series is not expected to be ready until spring.
“Insiders say Covid-19 restrictions, Harry’s exit from the Royal Family and move to the US with Meghan, 39, have slowed down production…” Yeah, it really was *just* the pandemic, you absolute fools. It’s not like Harry f–ked up or he was somehow too absorbed in the move or whatever. Insiders sure are dumb! Anyway, it will be completed when it’s completed, just like everything else. The only other thing I can think of – which isn’t even mentioned by the busybodies at the Sun – is that Netflix chiefs take a dim view of their people working on projects for other streaming services. But even then, Harry’s Apple+ series predated the Netflix deal, and it would have been contractually godfathered into the Netflix deal.

Isn’t AppleTv having problems in general? Or am I just confusing them with Quibi? In any case, the DM crowd just grasps at straws to try and find something, anything, to try and make things look bad for Meghan and Harry. Just pathetic.
Seriously. The production probably involves 100 people, including OPRAH, but it’s Harry’s fault somehow it’s been delayed.
Quibi failed. I haven’t heard anything about Apple tv.
You’re right. Quibi has shut down.
This is just stupid. The director of this project, (I can’t remember her name but she did the Pete Souza film that was shown on MSNBC) said in a recent interview that they had to stop filming Harry and Oprah’s project because of the pandemic and that they did editing instead. At the time of the interview (I think it was in October) she said that they were about to start filming again and that she was going to have a meeting with Harry and Oprah the next week. But again, the British press has nothing on Harry and Meghan so they have to resort to this type of reporting
Good for them for not taking risks during the Pandemic. I’m so uncomfortable watching shows that don’t have clearly stated standards for how they’re filming. Like Shameless (which has so many extras around the main cast and inconsistent masking).
Incredible. These people just cant help themselves can they.
I mean, it makes sense? I think this was first announced, what, a year ago maybe? So given the pandemic, the delay makes perfect sense.
Really the BM is just mad that the Sussexes aren’t only working with people like Oprah, but they’re clearly friends with her.
And what of the 10 years for 5 questions whose results shepherded by Keen Kate are set to change the world of childcare as we know it? Aren’t we in our 12th year of that at this point as last year’s unveiling of the questions was year 11? Where’s the forward motion on the world altering Earthshot? But an excuse of a worldwide pandemic slowing Harry’s work down —- that’s something to nail his ass about isn’t it?
It’s also likely that the content had to be changed to reflect the pandemic, because, you know, its impact on mental health is staggering. Side note, is it weird that I expect tv characters to be wearing masks now? Like when there’s a bustling restaurant or party scene (these are mostly older shows), I get uncomfortable.
I think this is true. Any mental health documentary that didn’t include the impact of the pandemic would seem outdated straight away, I think.
@Candy – I feel the same way seeing unmasked people on tv. It just feels off to see a scene taking place outside the home without masks.
