Scott Weiland is always having some kind of drama in his life – whether it’s interpersonal issues with his wife and his band mates or his troubles with drugs and alcohol. The rocker also has some health issues, including a history of seizures. The most recent one happened last week while he was on a flight to Miami, forcing the pilot of the plane to make an emergency landing in Dallas.
Sources close to Scott tell us he suffered the seizure while flying from Los Angeles to Miami. The plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
We’re told Scott has a history of seizures — he was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures. Despite the seizure, we’re told Scott plans on attending the launch of his clothing line “Weiland for English Laundry” on Saturday.
The very next night, Weiland did make it to his fashion line’s launch party and show in Miami, looking like he’d never even been hospitalized.
How’s this for a rockstar move — just 24 hours after suffering a mid-flight seizure, Scott Weiland was already back on stage singing his face off.
As TMZ first reported, Weiland’s Miami-bound plane made an emergency landing in Dallas Friday afternoon due to the singer’s condition. But once Weiland left the hospital, he went straight to Miami to play his gig.
Scott grabbed the mic at Mansion in Miami — and we’re told he cranked out STP and Velvet Revolver classics for more than an hour.
So much for “recovery time.”
Glad to hear that he’s okay, but you do have to wonder if that was such a smart idea. It’s not known if Weiland has any kind of chronic illness that causes the seizures, but given his history of drug and alcohol abuse – and his frank talk about how he still occasionally uses, you have to wonder if he’s taking good care of himself, especially with the recent Stone Temple Pilots reunion tour. Lots of addicts revert to old behavior when they’re in familiar surroundings. Hopefully, that’s not the case this time around. Weiland seems to be busier than ever since being dumped by supergroup Velvet Revolver last year. In addition to the fashion line – which is actually kind of a cool, retro, 60’s rocker look for men – he released a solo disc in August called “Happy in Galoshes,” and there’s talk of Stone Temple Pilots going back into the studio to record their first new collection of songs since 2003. Let’s hope he takes care of himself – I wouldn’t mind seeing Stone Temple Pilots live up to the great potential of their early years, without all the drama and BS Weiland brought to the group back then.

A while back he was arrested for DUI in California and had a buttload of pharmaceuticals on his person. Very sad, he’s got an amazing voice. I think he’s equally troubled as talented.
I know that’s not news to anybody familiar with him and his problems, but it’s just bad news how he can’t seem to lay off the drugs even after being in rehab AGAIN since the arrest and talking about still indulging.
I have read in both Rolling Stone and Spin that Weiland has long suffered from a seizure disorder.
It was just a seizure, not a freakin stroke or something.
Damn, wish I had known he was laid up here in Dallas. I would have taken advantage….
That guy looks so creepy. He absolutely gives me gooseflesh.
I was an STP fan back when, but I think he’s getting a little too old for this crap.
I highly doubt he’s clean.
Doesn’t sound like AIDS does it? It looks like it.
Saw Scott recently in Seattle. Had to leave the show as he came on stage, was obliviated from drugs and/or booze. Very sad to watch a train wreck! He couldn’t hit any of the notes. His eyes were rolling to the back of his head. We are going to lose a talented star very soon. Maybe somebody will do an intervention…or maybe this will be a repeat of MJ? Does anybody care about or love these beautiful human beings that are lost?
My friend, you you must be a writer. Your article is really fascinating. You should do it for a living
