The second night of Dancing with The Stars aired last night, and it was a lot of fun. We got to see the first performances by the female celebrities this season: Debi Mazar, Melissa Joan Hart, Mya, Kathy Ireland, Natalie Coughlin (Olympic Swimmer), Macy Gray, Joanna Krupa (Model), and Kelly Osbourne. E! Online has a very good recap of all of the performances and some of my thoughts are below. (The episode is not yet on Hulu, available for US visitors, but should be up soon.)
The real standouts of the night were R&B singer Mya, model Joanna Krupa and reality princess Kelly Osbourne. I don’t know much about Mya but she was incredibly personable in the pre-performance segment and she really had the moves in her waltz with Dmitry. Judge Len Goodman criticized Dmitry for his reinterpretation of a traditional Vienesse waltz, but both Carrie Ann and Bruno loved it, with Bruno calling it “artistry in motion.” This is especially impressive because Mya sustained some kind of injury from cut glass before her performance and needed to get stitches. (It’s unclear where she was cut.) Mya received the third highest score of the night with a 21.
Kelly Osbourne also really brought it with an elegant performance that judge Len called the “best Viennese Waltz of the night.” Her parents were in the audience and Sharon was visibly crying. Kelly ran up to hug them afterwards. Kelly cried in her post-dance interview and said “that was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life.” She was the runner up of the night with a judge’s score of 23.
Joanna Krupa had a very high energy and sexy salsa with Derek Hough. She earned the highest judges score of 24. I’m not too familiar with Krupa but she seems to have natural talent and is a real contender.
Melissa Joan Hart did pretty well, but she needs to loosen up and feel the music more. Kathy Ireland was stiff and didn’t seem to have much rhythm. Macy Gray was awkward, but she seemed to really try and the judges praised her vulnerability and charm. I haven’t had a chance to see the men’s performances from Monday yet, but among the women Mya, Kelly and Joanna are definitely the ones to watch.
Some levity was brought to the nervous first performances by singer Macy Gray, who quipped in her backstage interview “I was just glad to get the first dance out of the way. We’ve been practicing for four weeks, you know? I just feel like I popped my cherry.” The word “popped” was silenced in the broadcast. When the camera panned back for the judges scores Carrie Anne and Bruno were laughing hysterically. Macy said later that she didn’t see anything wrong with the comment, which she considered to be “a colloquialism” and “common usage” of the phrase. Macy explained “That was the best analogy I could think of for the first time you do something.” Macy is sure to get better at it, but I’m not sure that we’ll be watching at that point.

I have to say that Kelly Osbourne was really good last night! I was very impressed and it was super sweet seeing how proud her parents were of her.
Joanna Krupa was also very good. Mya’s intial dance was not that good, but in the final group type dance, she was really good.
So far, I am on Team Osbourne. Poor Macy Gray, she was like Frankenstein’s bride last night. Love her, but she cannot dance! The other women were not that greta either.
Out of the men, Mark Decasos(sp?), Donny O and Aaron Carter are good. Bless both Chuck Lidell and Tom Delay’s little hearts for giving it a try! Someone needs to take the starch out of their undies!
I read in a news report that Mya cut her hand. She wore gloves during her performance.
I thought it was hilarious how Tom approached Ozzy. Like Ozzy was going to jump up and bite him. I never watched their reality show or anything, but it was sweet to see how proud her parents were.
Sharon looked like she went overboard on the Botox train. Her face was so puffy, she could barely even smile. It was sweet though, to see how emotional Ozzy and her were watching Kelly.
Dancing with the Has-beens, more like.
Sabrina is pushing maximum density, and that makes me sad 🙁
Aww Hieronymus, cut the little witch some slack. Didn’t she just have a baby? {googles…} Oh, no that was in ’08. Nevermind, carry on.
Truth Princess, truth there. I was just hoping she’d have snapped back by now. 🙁
Maya is a trained dancer. She was also in the movie “Chicago”
(about Grex) As he sucks in his own belly, no doubt 😛
I’ve not seen it yet, but from the odd shuffle Melissa JH would do on her show and that Britney video, I’m afraid poor Clarissa hasn’t two steps to put together. Stiff as a board comes to mind.
It will take a while for Macy to loosen up as I’d say she’s quite self-conscious of her height. Especially with teeny little things like Mya and Clarissa (who’s roughly my height) around. And good on Kelly O.
EDIT:
Brown Suga, Kelly O was also in the stage show Chicago, which may even be more gruelling. But the dancing is quite different. It may mean they are able to follow choreography more easily, but it won’t necessarily help them with their posture, foot positioning and hand-holds which the judges mark them quite severely on.
Melissa JH was on my fave show “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”. My love for her is unswerving and absolute! Team MJH!
Mya has training in dance. I think she tap dances too!!
Why’d they bleep out “popped”? You’d think they would take out “cherry” since that’s the (maybe slightly) risqué word in the sentence. Squares.
Gagz – is this where people go to sell out?? I can’t watch this.
I’m surprised Macy Gray is doing a show like this. She doesn’t seem the type.
in this blog showed all pairs i know and arrange info about them on this site as you wish thanks
