Regina Hall commemorated her 50th birthday with a hilariously catchy song called “A Bitch is Old Today.” Recently, Regina was on the Ellen DeGeneres show to discuss her Showtime series Black Monday and her new Hulu show, Nine Perfect Strangers, which filmed in Australia. During her conversation with Twitch, Regina said that she looked up the different meanings for the word “bitch” and discovered that it also means a female fox and otter. Regina said this led her to declare that she is in her fox season. Below are a few highlights from Youtube:
On realizing that she likes to be at home
I love to be at home. It’s sad. A lot of people have been having a really rough time adjusting to being alone. I think I’m going to have a rough time readjusting. On turning 50 and recording the song about it
In the song I never say the number. I am very happy because the option is death. You’re either going to get older every year or you’re going to die. I’m happy to be alive and honoring what you do gain. I think it’s beautiful to age, but I just heard more people say the number. On the word bitch
They always use the term bitch they say it means a dog, but it’s actually a female fox. I looked up the meanings. It’s a female fox and a female otter. Otters are so cute they hold hands so they don’t float away. So you can think of yourself as fox season. I’m in fox season.

Regina is hilarious. I felt in my soul when she said that she was happy to turn 50 because the only other option is death. I turned 45 this year and it feels surreal. I have no idea where the last twenty-seven years have gone but I am embracing getting older. I was also hollering when Regina said that Australians wear Ugg boots to keep from having their ankles attacked by sunbathing snakes. Regina took me out when she wondered which Koala started the chlamydia epidemic in all Koalas. Regina is hella funny and I don’t feel like she gets enough props for her comedic timing. If you didn’t catch her “5 Second Rule” segment, you can check that out here. I haven’t seen Black Monday yet but I am definitely going to watch it now that I know that Regina and Don Cheadle are in it together. I am also looking forward to Nine Perfect Strangers, which premieres on Hulu August 18. I am intrigued with seeing Regina alongside Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy. As far as Regina being in her fox season? Bitch, so am I and I am loving it.
Here’s the interview:
Is a female fox not a vixen? And a female dog is a bitch.
yes that is true, but if you google bitch definition, it says female dog, wolf, fox, or otter. Our language is ever growing, but I know what you mean. It’s like, I think irregardless is considered a word now. If people use it, even if it’s wrong, it becomes a word. But I think here it was probably a multiple word for it sort of thing. I didn’t read the etymology
A female fox is a vixen. And a quick google search tells me that a female otter is a “sow”. Personally, I’d rather be a vixen than a b*^ch, but whatever she wants to own- go for it 😊
Try to google the word Bitch instead. I did, and the definition is :
bitch
/biCH/
noun
1.
a female dog, wolf, fox, or otter.
Oh interesting! Good to learn 😊
My dad always said that getting old is terrible, but much better than the alternative. It’s true, so why not embrace it? But ughhh, my joints ache and I’m tired all the time, lol
I stopped dying my hair a few years ago, and I love my silver-fox look.
I was graying since my early 30s, but as I “went blonde” in my 20s, I didn’t notice it much (highlights cover a LOT lol). After loosing my hair to chemo, when it came in, SO much darker than my “natural” shade, the gray came in too! The streaks actually looked really great in the darker hair. Now, my “dark parts” seem to be lightening as they’re losing melanin, and the gray is more apparent, but I’m still loving it. I think it’ll actually look great when it goes all silver.
Take the power ladies! Let’s make “Silver FOXES” a power force to be reckoned with 😄 ✊🏻
I can’t believe she’s 50. She has such a youthful face and energy. I would have guessed mid to late 30s
Black Monday is so funny, great cast. Regina is my favourite character, tough/funny/intelligent runs circles around the men.
I loved the book, Nine Perfect Strangers, and can’t wait for this mini-series to drop next month!
I will definitely check out Black Monday and look for her on YouTube. She is hysterical!
I’m so excited she’s going to be on “9 Perfect Strangers”. That was such a fun book!
What deal with the devil did this woman make to look this good at 50???? She doesn’t age. I loved her in Girl’s Trip.
