It’s curious, to me, to see how little media coverage there is of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this week. William clearly screwed up at the Euro final and acted like a big baby, plus he was called out on his hypocrisy over racism. But usually when there’s that kind of f–k up, the British tabloids will create some new storyline, with the help of Kensington Palace. I mean, where’s a new button-covered project for Kate? Why isn’t she stopping by the Keen Linchpin Research Centre for Buttons and Early Years? Did Will & Kate already f–k off to Norfolk? I bet they did.
So, we’re left to make our own stories, which is why people are now obsessed with the idea that Priyanka Chopra “snubbed” William and Kate at Wimbledon last weekend. Priyanka went to Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018. Pri and Meghan are friends, or they’re friendly enough. I always kind of thought that Priyanka might have oversold their friendship, but whatever, they know each other and they like each other. So Priyanka apparently did not clap for Will & Kate as they sat down in the Royal Box for the women’s final. Pri was two rows back, also in the Royal Box.
What’s funny is that Martina Navratilova didn’t clap for them or really acknowledge them either! But Martina did talk to them throughout the match, and Martina has talked about meeting Kate many times, and how it’s good for tennis to have such a high-profile royal tennis fan. As for Priyanka… I mean, yes, I think she was doing that on purpose. I think she started fussing with her scarf as soon as she knew that the Cambridges were about to be seated. I was watching the match too, and what was kind of funny was how little energy there was towards Will & Kate, in general. What made the Priyanka thing even funnier is that she really was just two rows back from Kate and they did not acknowledge each other AT ALL.

This is such a non-story. The video clearly shows that almost nobody in the first three rows were clapping. It’s just another really lame attempt to attack the Sussex’s.
I just watched the video and while I think Priyanka definitely was deliberately avoiding clapping, it seems that most in the box were doing the same. To me that is the story – not that Priyanka snubbed them, but that most of the people in the royal box snubbed them.

Yes and this story reads bad for those who are not familiar with the RF. Most Americans would be besides themselves to read that William/Kate expect everyone to stop and applaud them for just entering the building. I for one cheered her on. Hi there Feelshalori and Tigerlilly, I thought it worth mentioning as someone who has attended the BAFTAS that the reason there is no clapping for the royals when they enter is because they are not the main focus, the people are not there to applaud or celebrate them, the evening is about the nominees. They get the applause and ovations. So in our crazy, messed up British way, this is how we silently acknowledge that, yes, there is royalty, but they don’t get applause because they are not the the focus of the event. They just happen to walk in last. * We’re actually told before hand not to cheer for the royals or even stand for them – which makes sense to me as a lot of nominees are not British so WTH should they stand for these 2 just because they’re ‘royalty’

Do W&K carry smartphones? I’ve read that QEII and Charles carry very little on them, but I don’t know if that extends to the younger royals. My point is, you can easily look up world time on your smartphone. My iPhone has a world clock and I have several different cities’ time at my fingertips.

Second, at first it seemed to me that Chopra’s outfit was a it too heavy (weather wise) for the outing, compared to Kate’s short sleeved dress. But everyone else was in long sleeve and a woman seated behind them was all bundled up. Is it cool or warm where this match was held.

We were having the weather where it’s lovely in the sun/out of the wind but as soon as you get a bit of cloud/wind it’s freezing. Martina was doing a lot of the BBC coverage and one evening they were all on their outdoor table setup and she had a massive coat with the hood pulled tight around her face to start the segment, she was complaining that it was freezing.

The most telling indicator that Priyanka likely avoided these two purposefully is Priyanka attended with Natasha Poonawalla socialite wife of an Indian billionaire family that produces vaccines and has race horses and attends Ascot etc and she and her family are also very connected to Prince Charles playing host to him on visits to India etc. Since Natasha who happily like a good socialite tries to get photographed with anyone famous and especially Royalty avoided them too then that is the biggest sign that Priyanka did not want to be photographed talking to these two.

SH, back when the photos of W&K were first posted, there was one shot of them with Natasha in the background and she appeared to be looking at them with disdain. At the time I did not know who she was or that Priyanka was sitting next to her, but I remember thinking “that lady is beautiful and boy, she is not happy with those two.” Now it all makes sense.

There’s a problem with that statement, even though I totally agree with you in principle. In the UK, most civic acknowledgments and awards for excellence are given on behalf of the royal family as heads of state. That means getting CBEs and OBEs from the hands of a member of the royal family. It sucks that POC have to receive awards they have earned through their merit from a racist like William, but that’s the way things roll. Anne gave a bunch of awards to black Britons last week, awards that could influence their careers and earnings. It would be risky, perhaps even career damaging, to refuse the awards.
I can’t believe they haven redesigned the medals of white angels stepping on black devils. I actually was wondering if Priyanka was still friends with Meghan. Meghan didn’t attend any of Priyanka’s dozens of wedding ceremonies in India but I also think she was pregnant with Archie at the time. Priyanka was also super extra about her relationship with Nick. You also haven’t heard Priyanka mention Meghan in awhile and she was super eager to talk about Meghan a lot in the beginning. So I dunno if Meghan decided to distance herself because Priyanka is a bit of a blabbermouth so I don’t automatically read Priyanka ignoring William and Kate as support for Meghan. I also see it as just bored indifference and like people have said, refusal to acknowledge the institution that colonized her country.

She may be a bit of a blabbermouth and kinda extra but at the end of the day she seems to be a true blue friend. That’s worth a million snotty aristos.
And I will say, a large part of the online dislike of her is rooted in the same bigotry thrown at Meghan. They both married white heartthrobs, just from different circles. That plus the cultural differences in weddings which are frankly xenophobic.

The royal rota is just the pits. They use anybody, now it’s Priyanka, to cover up the global backlash William has suffered in the hands of the people of the world. They write about this lady who snubbed Kate and William (bravo! they deserve it) but it’s radio silence in the UK press about William’s blatant racist attitude. But the people of the world will not forget he’s downright hypocrite.
It is disgusting that people have to clap for two people so privileged by birth and marriage for sitting in a royal box. What an absurd, backwards, and denigrating institution. WTF have either W or K done for any of those people, but they are all super wealthy, too, and don’t need anything. Maybe that’s the point. 1% solidarity, subjects be damned. Gross.

Catherine has used her position to become good friends with Roger Federer. He was invited to her sister’s wedding and seems to be close to the Middleton family. He also has had numerous lunches with them at KP. She also kisses him when she meets him. Totally bizarre. Diane was much more interested in her causes that connected with ordinary people.
