Remember the summer of 2006? The midterms were heating up, that freak who wanted attention confessed to killing Jon Benet Ramsey, Israel was bombing the hell out of Lebanon, and an Oscar winning director was spending his summer getting wasted in Malibu bars. It was on the sultry night of July 28 that Mel Gibson was pulled over for speeding on the Pacific Coast Highway. What happened next was equal parts hilarious and sad. It involved Mel Gibson drunkenly yelling about “the f-cking Jews” and claiming to “own Malibu”. It involved an open bottle of tequila in the front seat, and refusing to be handcuffed. It also allegedly involved Mel asking a female officier, “What are you looking at, Sugart-ts?”
Of course all hell broke loose, and Mel’s reputation has pretty much never recovered. Mel didn’t have to go to jail – he was formally charged with a misdemeanor DUI, and Mel pled no contest. Mel got three years probation and treatment for his alcoholism. He also volunteered to do public service announcements. The judge praised him for his good work, and now Mel’s probation is officially over. So, of course, Mel wants his record expunged. Because that’s the way to make this incident go away?
Mel Gibson will ask a judge to expunge the DUI heard round the world.
We’ve obtained legal papers (on Yom Kippur, funny enough) revealing that Gibson’s lawyer, Blair Berk, will go to court in exactly one week and ask the judge to remove the DUI from Gibson’s record — because he has successfully completed all the terms of his 3-year probation.
You may recall Gibson was arrested in Malibu back in July, 2006 and went on an anti-Semitic rant that authorities tried to bury. TMZ broke the story of the tirade after obtaining four inflammatory pages that had been removed from the deputy’s report.

I don’t care for celebrities being given special treatment, so I think that if it’s common in California to have your misdemeanor DUIs expunged, then Mel should be allowed. If it’s uncommon, then the charge should remain on his record. I hate when DUIs are treated like just some random driving charge, though. A DUI isn’t like a failure to signal, or expired tags or whatever. I believe DUIs should remain on a person’s record, and affect their insurance and any future charges they may face. Many states do that now – if you get two or three DUIs, you lose your license for life. I think that’s the way it should be – regardless of the sad hilarity of “sugart-ts” and “owning Malibu”, Mel could have killed somebody with his drunk driving.
Expunged is NOT forgotten, Mel…
He’s so catholic, he needs to worry about God expunging the last 10 years of his wasteful druken, racist, cheating life.
In most states, you’re able to get a DUI expunged. Generally, you can only do it one time and there have to be no others on your record. It just costs quite a bit to have a lawyer do it, which is why most people don’t.
He knows it’s not like anyone will ever forget about it, so my guess is that he wants it expunged for insurance reasons. Purely a guess, but when he films, the insurance companies might penalize him for it.
OMG he looks like an insane granpa in that first picture! I know he’s filming a movie, but geez, way to pic a film so close to home Mel!
I love Mel Gibson.
All that booze went straight to his hips. I guess that’s the closest he gets to a beaver these days.
The man still has a problem with and can’t control his drinking so the possibility of another DUI remains and will probably happen again regardless of “expunged”.
hey Mel- the cleaners called , your white sheets are ready for pick up !”
your like the ~ grand poo ba of the KKK
you and Tom Cruise are both self absorbed idiots.
I think it needs to be copied and mailed to all his neighbors.
They’re just singing two-part harmony to ‘Zippity Do Da’ for his next gig on the Muppets…
How about… erm… NO!!!
FYI – getting a misdemeanor DUI expunged after a couple years is common practice in CA. But Gibson is still a douchebag.
“I think it needs to be copied and mailed to all his neighbors.”
??
Why?? I’m pretty sure the entire world already knows about it!
I never can grasp how it doesn’t occur to these folks to simply hire a driver if they are going to go out and hit the bottle, or to pony up 30 bucks and take a cab… Mel is filthy rich he can afford a driver, hell if I had his kind of $$ I would never drive again. Wouldn’t that be nice, not to have to worry about finding parking spots, traffic, etc. you could just sit in the back of a limo, read a book, take a nap, watch a DVD, enjoy a bite to eat…
This is not to difficult to believe after all Roman Polanski rapes a 13 year old girl and Hollywood forgives him..did you hear Whoopie on the View this morning saying it wasn’t a rape-rape. At last count 138 Hollywood heavy hitters signed a petition demanding his release from Swiss Authorities..maybe we should get a petition together and denounce child rape..
“Expunging” a DUI doesn’t mean what we think it means in some states. I have a friend in Missouri that got a first time DUI with a .09 because the officer smelled beer on his breath and proceeded to do field sobriety (and my friend does admit to having 3 beers shortly before going to the store). License suspended like 30 ro 90 days, and 2 years probation upon which the DUI was “expunged”. Turns out that the “criminal” conviction is removed, however the ADMINISTRATIVE action of an “Alcohol suspension of driving privileges” (or something like that) will remain on his license for life. It will NEVER be removed. (Or at least as long as he has a Missouri license.) Not saying it is or is not fair, but you tell me that anyone looking up your driving record and seeing an administrative alcohol suspension isn’t going to put 2 and 2 together. It has affected his insurance, his credit score and his employment searches (he is working now). And does he drink and drive? Not one drop. Literally he will not get behind the wheel if he’s had even one beer earlier in the same day. So consequently he just doesn’t drink. And that’s OK. Now, what do you think poor Mel is going to do. Uh, how about use a driver. Doh. And I imagine that’s exactly what he’s doing. There is no reason for him to ever have to drive again. Now, why he didn’t do that in the first place I don’t know.
But can he expunge it from our memories?
TaylorB, problem is, alot of people who drink and drive, do so regardless of the options they have to get home, rich or poor. Plenty of “regular” folks who do this, do so despite numerous offers from people to get them a cab/drive them home/stay at their house etc. It’s some kind of drunken, f*cked up stubbornness.
It’s amazing how much energy has to go into convincing someone not to get behind the wheel in that state. While i’m not saying it doesn’t happen for that reason, it seems to be more a personality thing, rather than a “I have no other options” thing.
At least he didn’t lure, drug and rape(inclusive of sodomy)a thirteen year old, then flee the country.
He doesn’t need it in HELL.
He ruined officer Mee’s and his family .
He is a bulldog who will stop at nothing.
Good luck in hell……………………..
he does not need it in HELL.
he ruined officer mee’s life and his family
he ruined so many people’s life
he is a bully and a pig
he will end up in helll.
It was certain people in the news media who harmed Officer Mee, not Mel Gibson.
How on earth people are able to compare Mel’s DUI and Polanski’s pedophile sex crime in the same breath is beyond me.
There is a revolting double standard going on, and it isn’t pretty!
you must be a paid servant and ass kisser
