Well I don’t know what you look like, but I think I could pull off those frames. Of course I have always loved those Jackie-O oversized sunglasses. You all can keep your aviators.
thanks! I love oversized, Jackie-O style sunglasses too, but I have smaller frames for my regular glasses. Dakota is making me rethink that!
In the late 60s early 70s it was ALL about the oversized frames, for all glasses (reg./sun).
There was also this entertainment chief, Lew Wasserman, (MCA/Universal) who wore these humongous black framed glasses like DJ is wearing. These were his “trademark” look, and he *never* varied from them over the decades:

Yeah, my first thought went to 1970s-era Bob Evans. For me, great for sunglasses, but not actual glasses, but that’s me.
I too love the oversized chunky frames, and had a couple pairs myself. however, with the prescription lenses, they were SO HEAVY on my face and would eventually make my ears and the bridge of my nose hurt.
I switched to aviators for my ‘scrip shades and never looked back. way more comfortable.
Oh, you make a good point. It entirely depends upon your prescription. These would be killer on my sinuses!
why the dig on aviators? Are we just hating on random stuff now?
That Katie Holmes dress looks like something I would’ve put together from scraps in my closet as a kid (not to leave the house in though), but she’s looking better than ever. I’d gladly work out with her trainer.
ETA I love Dakota’s frames on her. Mine are more like Kirsten’s and I get compliments on them a lot. I highly recommend Warby Parker for trying multiple pairs before buying.
Did she steal them from the Oceans 11 set archive? Elliott Gould’s costume section?
They DO look like those! Still cute on Dakota.
I would look like a bug in those glasses.
LOL that reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry has to wear glasses from the lost and found, and accidentally buys $100 in gum.
I don’t have a very large head, so those frames would make my eyes look really, really close together.
Katie looks like she’s wearing Morticia’s dish cloths. And I can’t go back to bell bottoms, not even for Beyonce.
British Baking is back! Yay!!
I could never do glasses that large.
Actually, I’m putting off buying new prescription glasses (despite the fact that I really need progressive lenses) because I really don’t like the large frames that are in style right now. They very much remind me of my very first pair of glasses from 1990.
I feel you. I’ve been holding off getting progressives too, UGHHHH. But may take the leap with oversized frames tho.
Are you currently needing to take your glasses OFF to read small print? It’s driving me nuts. I can see far just fine with my current glasses, but can’t see a damn thing up close anymore. I know that I just need to bite the bullet and get the larger frames, but they really don’t suit my face shape… I hate the idea of spending several hundred dollars on frames that I don’t like. I’m not sure if I could even order my very first pair of progressives on a site like zunni optical (or whatever it’s called) because what if the lenses aren’t in the right position for me to be able to see both distance and up close. I hate having bad (and now older) eyes!
CoffeChamp & KellySunshiune: Don’t hold off on the progressives! They’re made really well anymore & I had no problems adjusting. My frames are RayBan, too, so I don’t think you’d be stuck with really large frames if you don’t want them.
Those glasses are happening. Lorde was wearing them on some late night show.
When I read Kaiser’s comment about the glasses I immediately pictured them on her Scottish fold avatar kitten. Anyone else?
No, but now the you mention it, how adorable would that be?
I dunno, from where I sit bellbottoms were back for some time now. They’d go well with Dakota’s glasses. Full on 70’s throwback.
Is it just me or is Dakota Johnson growing on you all? Her movie choices, her fashion, her snark, I don’t know, I kinda dig her these days. I love a quirky girl that isn’t going for the manic pixie girl innocent stuff.
She is. I never disliked her or anything, I just thought she was meh. But she’s carving out a place for herself.
Ever since that interview on Ellen where she did not come to be bullied or bullshitted I’ve loved her.
I have ginormous sunglasses that fit over my regular glasses because I have horrific chronic migraines. So on days when contact lenses are simply not an option, those suckers get plopped on in an instant.
Also, unrelated to glasses, what is up with Katie Holmes and her relationship with fashion? She seems like she loves clothes, but she dresses like she hates them.
Or does she equate “super fashionable” with “so ugly only REALLY cool people ‘get’ it”?
Kind of how most people equate excellent posture as being a good thing, but “fashionable aristocrats” seem to favour that godawful slouchy-slump.
I hated the tiny glasses trend so I’m all for this.
No. no. noooooooo! Not bellbottoms – AGAIN! They came back the first time in the 90’s and now yet another redux. Nooooo! I remember them the first time, as a kid back in the 70’s!
I love oversized glasses but these are giving me big Austin Powers vibes
Edna from the Incredibles!
Big sunglasses in white and a scarf over your hair means a glamorous ride in a convertible driven by a very handsome man. Lol.
