Prince Harry & Meghan brought a film crew to NYC to document their trip

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at the UN

In this post, I’m including some photos of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the United Nations on Saturday. They met with U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed before they appeared at the Global Citizen festival in the late afternoon. As you can see, Meghan wore shades of brown/beige. The coat is a repeat – that’s her Max Mara coat, which she’s worn a few times over the years. As you can also see, it appears as if Meghan and Harry were being filmed as they walked around the UN. According to Page Six, they’ve been mic’d and trailed by an in-house film crew during their trip to New York.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been secretly taping their NYC visit for a rumored Netflix documentary about their lives, Page Six has learned. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex brought their own videographer with them on their whirlwind trip this week, and he was seen accompanying them around the city. He ran ahead of them as they stepped out before a tour of the 9/11 Memorial Thursday morning.

They also brought their own photographer, Matt Sayles, to document them, we have confirmed.

Harry appeared to be sporting a mic during his visit with his wife to iconic Harlem soul food eatery Melba Friday. He had a wire around his neck, which was then seen tucked into the pocket of his chinos as he hugged restaurant owner Melba Wilson.Despite the hot Big Apple weather, Markle brought a wardrobe of heavy winter coats and jackets for all of their engagements — thick enough to hide any mic.

Sources who know the Sussexes say they have also been collecting footage for the archives of their Archewell foundation. However, we’re also told that one of the first things they ever discussed with Netflix chiefs before signing a multi-million dollar deal in September 2020 was making a fly-on-the-wall documentary about their lives. The couple, in conjunction with their production company Archewell Productions, inked the deal after leaving the royal family earlier this year.

[From Page Six]

Yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me. Page Six posted photos where you can see that Harry does seem to have a mic pack in his pocket too. I would watch the hell out of a documentary about just their trip to New York. I’m reminded of stories I’ve heard about Angelina Jolie’s work with the United Nations High Commission on Refugees – Jolie never leaves it to the UNHCR to handle her media. She’s never treated the UN as part of her management or PR team. She brings her own cameras and organizes her own press when she’s doing UNHCR work, and for that, she has the respect of UN officials and aid workers on the ground. It sounds like that’s what Harry and Meghan are doing too – managing their own media/narrative in alignment with the UN, Global Citizen, etc.

I think it’s a good idea because the whole point is to raise awareness for people who are struggling.

So if the celebrities are themselves paying for the press side of it, then well done. That will minimise the charities’ expenses.

    • Pao says:

To be honest i don’t think its a documentary about themselves:
      1. Last year when a tabloid reported that they were doing a reality tv show the couple responded making it clear that they had no interest filming their own lives. A lot can change in a year and this would most likely be about their causes but still.
2 i didn’t see a camera crew. I only saw 1 man with a camera and then their photographer.

I think its for content on their website

      • Chelsea says:

Yeah i think this might be content for their website or maybe a new social media account because i don’t think there was enougb media equipment for a real documentary. It’s worth noting as well that there were no posts on Archewell.com while they were in NYC so i expect more posts in the next few days about what they were up to when they were there especially since there was no press inside most of their meetings. Most shots of them were taken while they were arriving leaving with the exception of the photocall at One World which i think was probably done to appease local media so no one would make a fuss about not being let into the other events. (There was some local press at the school but they had to stay back a good deal.)

  2. L says:

I’m surprised she left her 3 month daughter at home for so long. I wonder if she’s still nursing her.

    • mae says:

“For so long”? It was three days. Please.

    • GuestWho says:

It would have been much safer to bring her on a long-haul flight into a super busy business trip during a pandemic (even on a private jet).

You know, you can pump and freeze, right? Also, she and Archie probably aren’t home alone.

    • Nemo says:

Her daughter is doing just fine at home with granny. Thank you for your faux concern.

    • ziaaa says:

@L I am sorry but what business is this of yours? How is the work Meghan is doing at the UN related to her breast-feeding cycle? Why can’t people stop mom-shaming other women and go take care of their own families?

    • Here4Tea says:

That’s her business – not ours.

    • AMM says:

Welcome to 2021 where working mothers sometimes make business trips. And it was 3 days, that’s short enough that pumping is a realistic option.

    • Noki says:

The babies are with their beloved granny, ample security and resources especially.

    • Sandy says:

I wouldn’t have done it, but to each their own.

      • Nemo says:

Of course you wouldn’t. You’re not her and never will be.
Once again, thanks for your faux concern 🙄

      • L4Frimaire says:

You wouldn’t have done it. Not everyone has that choice nor do schedules revolve around them. Lots of women have to do it, and not just those who are privileged enough to go on business trips. Lots of women have to go back to work much sooner than 3 months and have to leave their babies with relatives or cut short nursing. It’s that or don’t get a paycheck. To each their own.

      • GraceB says:

Here we go again with the shaming everyone with an alternative opinion. Isn’t it ok for someone to say they wouldn’t have done it? It doesn’t mean they’re saying she’s a bad person for doing things differently. There is no need to then go in with the insults.

I think it’s healthy to see mothers away for days. I was shamed so much when I did the same, many years ago.

I also think it’s healthy to hear women say that they wouldn’t or couldn’t. Both sides need to know they’re not alone in their experiences.

Yet here we are again tearing down women/mothers, supposedly in support of a woman who would probably not think that was the right thing to do.

      • Becks1 says:

@GraceB – its the pile on about how she left Lili for “so long” and “I wouldn’t have done it” and “I just wanted to be with my baby all the time at that age” that takes it from differing opinions to shaming Meghan for something that we don’t even know if she did!

      • Jaded says:

@Sandy – then you were very lucky to be able to stay at home. Some women, for money reasons or because they’re working in a high level, international philanthropic career like Meghan, have to travel for work and they should not be shamed for it. I’d be more concerned if she was lugging the kids around with her. They wouldn’t understand what was going on, their schedules would be all messed up, and their parents wouldn’t be with them most of the time (which, BTW, was only 3 days, not 3 weeks). Plus this little pandemic we have going on…

    • Merricat says:

Lol. A granny is better than a nanny. At least Lili’s mother doesn’t sell her photos to the tabs.

      • Nemo says:

        @Merricat Exactly!
Lili’s mom is not a mean girl too.

I’m so annoyed by all the “concern” for Meghan.
        I’ve got time today! ⏲️

    • Haylie says:

L is the living embodiment of the phrase, “Get off her tit.”

    • Jezz says:

Yeouch! Chill out all! I’m also “surprised” she left her baby. No judgement, just surprise. Meghan seems like the kind of mum I was — very reluctant to be apart from my breastfeeding babe. Your attacks seem a bit over the top!

      • Haylie says:

Your surprise is judgement. And you know that.

      • Nemo says:

If she were a working mom, she would have to leave her baby at home, right?

        So……
Why don’t YOU chill out? Meghan and Harry appear to be chill so why don’t you do the same?

In conclusion, it’s absolutely none of your business.

      • Becks1 says:

It’s the faux concern – that’s why people are responding this way – the tone of “oh how could she just leave her baby so young, a real mother wouldn’t do that!”

First – we don’t know that she left Lili.
Second – if she did, its none of our business. I’m sure she’s well cared for, its not like Meghan just said “here’s a bottle kid, see you in a week.”
Third – parents leave their children all the time for a variety of reasons and usually there are no lingering issues. I left my 4 month old to go to a wedding across the country. He’s 9 now and our relationship is just fine.

      • SunRae says:

@Jezz ‘coat-gate’ didn’t stick so now you lot are gunning for the mom-shaming angle. This one will get you draaaaggggged. The vilification of black women as moms is an issue way bigger than Meghan.

Trust me. You don’t want to go there. I for one will spend all day here collecting you. You were better off with the temp watch.

      • Eurydice says:

But why the surprise? Where in Meghan’s history is there anything to suggest that she wouldn’t make sure her children are well-cared for? And she said she’d start working after the summer, so where is the surprise in that?

      • NCWoman says:

If your first thought is “surprise” that the mom left a three-month-old for three days and not the dad, you are not only starting from a place of judgment, you’re starting from a place of deep misogyny.

      • goofpuff says:

It is judgement. You’re judging working moms (and even stay at home moms for having a life). You might not have done it, but that isn’t exactly the norm for all women. My children are doing fine and breastfeeding went fine even though I went off for week while they were young for work.

    • Jen says:

In one comment you managed to criticize working moms and wonder about what someone does with their breasts. Impressively tone deaf! You should work for KP’s communications department.

    • HeatherC says:

I breastfed Kiddo until he was 7 months. When he was 4 months old, I went away for a weekend to attend a music festival. I pumped and froze before hand and my parents were delighted to spend some one on one time with their first grandchild.

Fast forward 22 years later, that weekend away didn’t affect our bond or his health and I got to do something for myself for a few days that didn’t revolve around being a mom (plus the festival was awesome)

      • Myra says:

I had to go on a two-weeks overseas work trip when my son was still nursing. We have an amazing bond and he is such a sweetheart. He has no idea I left him behind when he was a baby.

    • Gingerbee says:

Geez, how many times are you going to sprout that Daily Fail drivel. You also said the same thing on another post. The fail is missing your comment.

    • JMoreno says:

This is how the Cambridge supporters hijack the discussion. Throw something ridiculous out there and see if it sticks…

    • Lizzie says:

No you are not. Parents have planned getaways leaving the kids with a grandmother forever.

    • Pamuk says:

L, come on, you can’t be serious 🙄 3 days, breast milk can be frozen, they have a nanny and grandma Doria. Women in the US are back to work within a few weeks after birth. She made great use of her time in NYC and I’m positive the kids were more than fine.

    • goofpuff says:

@L and @Jezz I can’t even. What the hell. Very judging toward working mothers. For your information, I breastfed my children just fine while having to travel for work. Thanks for your faux concern.

      • Jezz says:

Oh. My. God. You guys are out for blood! I’m a super Meghan stan, and think her work is extraordinary. It would NOT surprise me if they brought the kids. You all are so brutal!

      • goofpuff says:

Its not Meghan that people are upset about, its the judging women in general for being somewhere else other than tethered to their children we are finding fault with.

    • Jaded says:

@L @Jezz – nice try but we see right through you. Better stick to the Fail to post mommy-shaming and dog-whistle comments.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

It addition to the other feedback (rightly deserved), I wanted to add that shaming a mother for leaving a 3-month old — and even the replies that assure the OP that breast milk can be frozen — implies that it is a mother’s SOLE job to watch a baby 24/7 AND ALSO to breast feed them. Some mothers/babies are unable to breastfeed, and use formula. There is nothing wrong with that either. Again, I don’t know if the baby is breastfed or not, just wanted to say that the focus on MOTHER leaving (and not FATHER) is misogynistic and overly judgmental, especially the breastfeeding implication.

    • MA says:

Weird that all this “surprise” and “concern” which is I’m sure oh so genuine and not mom-shaming or trolling never comes out for other celebrities. Or you know any working mom who has professional commitments once maternity leave is over. Didn’t the queen leave her kids for like 6 months once lol

    • Isabella says:

Weird that this thread got hijacked so it’s about Meghan’s breast-feeding instead of the good work that she and Harry are doing, trying to get vaccine access for poorer countries. It’s so impressive that they landed meetings at the U.N., that they met with NY’s mayor, governor and other top officials. Bravo.

      Enough with the passive/aggressive mom-shaming concern-trolling.

    • SS says:

It’s disheartening to see a group, dedicated to defending Meghan from unfair attacks by the press and public, doesn’t hold back from attacking other women for saying something they construe as critical of Meghan.

  3. Becks1 says:

I don’t think they are “secretly taping” anything if you can see the camera and mics.

I would love to see a documentary about maybe the first few years of Archewell or something – how they’re getting the organization off the ground, and especially following them on any international trips they do. Right now with the pandemic its tricky, but I am fully expecting them to visit the Dominican Republic when they can to visit the community center there (its in the DR right?), or to visit other centers as they are being built and track the progress, etc.

It’s their lives, they can record what they want to. And also, covering their working lives like this is a good way to satisfy people – especially fans – who want to see more of H&M, and love to see their behind the scenes work, but don’t need to see their personal lives or their children etc. We want to see their work.

    • Amy Bee says:

      @Becks: Puerto Rico.

      • Becks1 says:

I went and looked it up after I posted – Dominica, Puerto Rico and Mumbai. I’m sure there is footage of all three, especially since the one in Mumbai pivoted very quickly to helping feed frontline workers.

    • Eurydice says:

Yes, that was my first thought, too – the cameraman was obvious. And I’m sure they got permission to film from everyone they met.

    • Gah says:

Agreed @Becks it is obviously not a secret and most likely filming footage about their work not their lives.

Re their projects they have one in Puerto Rico and I think one on the island of Dominica and maybe one in Haiti which is the same island as DR. It’s easy to get DR and Dominica confused.

I am currently living in DR and my land is adjacent to a huge tract that I would love to turn into an eco sanctuary w food forests, bees, permaculture and eco/food education and some affordable housing to boot.

I’m going slowly tho bc I’m conscious of the big colonization energy and want to be respectful of local culture and their desires/solutions.

      • Charm says:

Wow. This sounds similar to what Angelina did in Cambodia. She turned that huge Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation project into a Millennium Village Project which is a UNDP-accredited affiliation along with abt 7 other such in the world. That 10-yr UNDP project ended in 2015 however but its the concept that matters.

      • windyriver says:

These four centers aren’t specifically H&M’s projects – they’re providing funding for facilities being built by WCK as part of it’s own network. Jose Andres wrote their blurb for the Time 100 issue and he obviously thinks very highly of them, and possibly they have a greater involvement with WCK than just these centers.

Also, World Central Kitchen was founded after the earlier earthquake in Haiti in 2010 and has maintained involvement in various projects in the country, including establishing a chef training school in Port au Prince, all of which was vital in their quick response to the most recent quake. So the fourth facility will almost certainly be somewhere else.

    • STRIPE says:

Yeah to me “secretly” implies that M has a hidden camera in her purse ha! They have a camera crew following them. Not so much a secret when it’s out in the open.

    • Nic919 says:

Page Six is Murdoch owned so outside of seeing that camera in the photo, they have no clue what it’s there for.

  4. GuestWho says:

It’s the “secretly” taping that is such a ridiculous notion. If they were recording conversations, they would have done it legally – because they are not stupid.

I’m more inclined to think that wire Harry was sporting was to communicate with their security team.

  5. Amy Bee says:

The NY Post are trying to make out like this is a bad thing. All philanthropists do this to document their work. I don’t know if there will be a Netflix documentary about this but there will be video clip at some point publicizing the work of Archewell. Perhaps an Instagram account in the future. And the black wire around Harry’s neck is the string of the necklace he always wears. But look out for British press to start writing stories about the Royal Family’s fears of being secretly taped by Harry and Meghan.

    • Talia says:

Too late – at least one gossip website has already suggested they are planning to secretly tape the Queen.

  6. STRIPE says:

I was wondering what the deal was with these winter outfits but I don’t believe that she’s wearing turtlenecks and coats to hide a mic- surely she could hide a mic in summer clothing? Excited to see what they’re putting together but I’m still confused by the heavy coats lol

    • Jezz says:

In all the gala photos all the celebs seem to be in fall clothes, despite the heat. I think it is just a fashion choice, due to time of year (and maybe covering up new mum lumps.

      • STRIPE says:

Also in the post on Bennifer JLo is wearing a full on coat. So idk. Whatever. I love coats so I’m not complaining ha!

    • Dee says:

High end cashmere is breatheable and not so heavy. Also, we have this thing called air conditioning in our buildings in the USA. During early fall, it can be breezy and cool in the morning and then warm up late in the afternoon. Many of us who work wear a jacket and then, (How shall I explain this?) we remove the jacket when it warms up. It’s not very complicated once you try it.

      • STRIPE says:

lol It’s not that serious. It’s (how shall I explain this?) just a question about clothes on a gossip blog.

      • Haylie says:

Ever notice how when people get caught repeating a 3-day long British tabloid attack strategy (coats n’ stuff), people fall back on “It’s a gossip site,” or “I was just asking a question”?

        Anyone else notice that?

      • STRIPE says:

HAYLIE – speaking for myself, I brought up this being a gossip blog because isn’t this the venue for light, superficial questions like stuff about wardrobe?

I understand if this were, for lack of a better term, a more serious site these questions would be out of place.

Also, with a quick view of the DM, it looks like their talking points are the cost of her clothes (their typical faux outrage), which I didn’t mention at all.

      • Dee says:

Beginning to wonder if the people posting have never experienced fall or autumn. Posting about “heavy” and “winter” clothing when Meghan’s obviously dressed for the season in between is so weird. If she’d worn a sundress and espadrilles, would they be content? No, she’d be “freezing” and showing too much skin and way inappropriate somehow.

      • MsIam says:

@STRIPE I think that coat horse is dead and gone to the great rodeo in the sky by now. To keep making the same comment and asking the same questions over and over for three days seems deliberate, especially when it mirrors the same stupid criticisms of the Fail and the Dim.

      • Isabella says:

The coat thing is more faux concern trolling by the DM. As if they care about Meghan’s health. Also, they went insane about her jewelry, which pretty much consisted of:
        1. Engagement Ring
        2. Wedding ring
        3. Cartier watch she’s either had forever or inherited from Diana.
        4. Earrings from her wedding.

I have never seen Kate dragged for wearing her rings or any other jewelry. It’s news to me that wearing your engagement ring is flaunting your wealth. Kate’s is worth at least $500,000. Her earrings are $$$. But it’s only Meghan who can’t have nice things. The same things. Not even new things.

    • Lizzie says:

Dressing for Autumn in layers, is appropriate in mid September in the northeast. Maybe you never planned ahead to pack for a trip but that involves packing for the forecasted temperatures.

    • goofpuff says:

@Stripe Have you not ever been in any buildings like that? I live in Texas in dead hot summer and I will still bring and wear sweaters because the air conditioner is going STRONG and FREEZING in those buildings. I keep a jacket at my desk for this reason. I find this statement weird thing to remark on as her wearing those clothes make sense to me. Also if you know NYC weather you realize its usually cold and breezy in the morning. At least it was when I used to live in NY.

      • L84Tea says:

In my building where I work/worked (I work from home now), it was straight up Arctic in there. Like absolutely freezing, despite it being 95 degrees outside. It was very normal to see people sitting at their desks with a blanket wrapped around them. At Christmas time there’s always a White Elephant game, and fuzzy blankets are always the item people want most.

      • goofpuff says:

@ L84Tea haha yes! We actually decided to get a thermometer to measure the ambient temperature and one time it was 62 degrees!!!! In the older buildings where I worked at (I work from home now too) the way the HVAC was designed was so bad that in order to keep places from not being hot (and messing up valuable electronics), they had to blast the air which made all kinds of super cold spots.

    • Tanya says:

It’s a bit chilly in the mornings here in NYC (at least for me). I’ve been wearing a jacket on the way to school for the past couple of days. For some reason the contrast between the heat of summer makes me feel colder.

  7. Noki says:

The BM act like they are filming Keeping up with the Sussexes. Many royal docus have been done over the years with participation from the Family, someone actually mentioned they even did one in the 60s at the request of Philip. Again its one set of rules for them and another for H & M.

    • Lizzie says:

The BM are idiots who are desperately trying to stay relevant so they have to report ANYTHING about the Sussex’s because the other royals are frankly all duds. If the BM really wanted to harm H&M they would have a black out on them and only report Bill and Cathy. But we all know that no one clicks on the duds. Hence they trotted out the kids today or yesterday.

      • Emmitt says:

A British Media blackout of Harry & Meghan would not harm Harry & Meghan; I would think Harry & Meghan would LOVE it if there was a blackout.

A British Media blackout of Harry & Meghan would harm the British media, though.

    • Nic919 says:

There will be a Keeping Up with the Cambridges before there ever will be one for the Sussexes. The photo ops with the kids are starting to lose their power.

  8. Jillian says:

Damn, I’d watch a full hour of them at Melba’s – make it happen, Netflix!

  9. Bros says:

I am also confused about their heavy winter clothing? It’s like they got acclimated to cali weather and thought nyc would be super cold? Weather has been totally gorgeous and warm.

    • L84Tea says:

Why does it bother you what they wear??

      • STRIPE says:

I don’t think BROS is saying they’re bothered, just curious. People can do whatever they want but at some point we all do have eyes and an understanding of temperature. It’s ok to wonder why someone is wearing a full on winter wardrobe in September before it gets cold in NYC.

      • Lemons says:

L84Tea, please cool it. This question is asked anytime ANY celebrity is walking around in clothing that does not match the climate they are currently in. These questions aren’t reserved for Meghan.

To me, if she’s not sweating and she’s comfortable….why not. But it surely looks weird for anyone living in the same area and says that the heat was sweltering lol.

      • Merricat says:

The continual harping on an insignificant detail is an attempt to detract and distract from the purpose of their visit. They were there to do good work, which they did.

      • Haylie says:

L84TEA, never mind the people telling you to cool it like concern trolls, rabid royalists and tabloids didn’t use Meghan’s wardrobe and the weather as a pointed line of attack for 3 days straight. In every single comment section and message board. It’s the Time 100 cover trolling of “Harry looks like Meghan’s hairdresser and I can’t unsee it!” of the week.

      • STRIPE says:

So let me get this straight: we can’t look at a celebrity’s wardrobe choices and say “huh that’s an interesting choice I wonder why they did that?” on a *gossip blog* without being branded a troll….?

Nobody is saying she shouldn’t have worn what she did, nobody is saying “omg it’s all so expensive!!” like the BS faux outrage on the DailyFail, nobody is feigning worry about her because of her wardrobe, nobody is taking away from their good work.

I truly do not understand the anger here?

      • Becks1 says:

@STRIPE part of the anger is because this has been an ongoing question in every H&M post over the past few days, AND its become a huge talking point for the DM etc – “Meghan can’t read a weather report!! Does she even know where she is?!?!?!” etc.

But in every post there are comments about what she is wearing so that’s why I think some are frustrated at this point.

      • L84Tea says:

Exactly Haylie. The BM harped all over her wearing a coat all weekend like it was somehow relevant. This is simply more of that.

      • STRIPE says:

L84TEA, BECKS, HAYLIE – thanks for the insight there. I haven’t been in the comments here recently or in the DM ever so I wasn’t aware, but also…L84TEA, HAYLIE, I would argue, though, that this is not “more of that” because literally nobody in this thread is insulting Meghan for her choices. Sometimes a question about a coat is just a question about a coat.

      • Jamie says:

Y’all would be dragging Kate over the coals if she was doing this exact same thing if she had come to NYC. Stop the double standard and it is just a question she was asking. If I am traveling to another part of the country, I am going to check the weather there and pack accordingly.

      • Becks1 says:

@Jamie – that’s the exact BS that we are calling out. Why are people assuming that Meghan did not check the weather and pack accordingly?? She is wearing what she wants to wear. Get over it. I don’t understand why this is so hard for some people to understand .

I think most of us would be too busy fainting from shock if Kate dressed this professionally on a royal tour to drag her anywhere lol.

    • Noki says:

Maybe their is something funny happening in NYC with the weather ,because i also saw pap stroll pics with Bennifer and they were wearing coats and what appears to be heavy clothing.

    • Lizzie says:

What is confusing about dressing in layers? Fall is tricky, mornings can be chilly. I don’t know how of a deep dive is needed.

      • Noki says:

@Stripe honestly some of the responses and pile on at someone asking a perfectly reasonable question or politely giving their opinion lately has been getting ridiculous.

      • STRIPE says:

        @NOKI yeah it’s……really something.

    • Laughysaphy says:

Maybe she’s just one of those people who are always cold and likes layers? She wore a short sleeve short dress outside, she might just hate excessive AC?

    • Dee says:

High end cashmere clothing is versatile and breatheable. You can cast your worries aside.

    • Becks1 says:

I don’t really want to pile on because lately the criticism here if someone isnt 100% glowing about the Sussexes has gotten extreme.

BUT I don’t get the continued talk about “winter clothes” and “they must be so hot” etc. If Meghan were hot, she would have worn something else. Its NYC. There are plenty of stores for her to have bought something new if she wanted to wear something different that she hadn’t packed. She obviously was comfortable in what she was wearing. Nothing was inappropriate for the event (like wearing hot pink to a memorial) and nothing was anything less than professional.

Harry dressed in lighter clothes so it really probably is as simple as Meghan was comfortable in what she wore and Harry was comfortable in what he wore.

      • Eurydice says:

Yes, the weird thing is that people act like this is the first time they’ve ever seen Meghan. She’s not some first time tourist who packed the wrong clothes. Everything about this trip was planned; you can’t say nobody checked the weather. Meghan wore what she wanted to wear and she looked perfectly comfortable. I don’t get why this is a problem for people.

    • Crowned Huntress says:

Hi, New Yorker here. At this time of year the weather fluctuates anywhere between 15 to 30 degrees in a day. It can be in the high 50s/15C in the early morning and end up in the low 80s/26C, during their visit we had very windy & humid to temperate and pleasant.
If we include them in and out of air conditioned cars and offices, then wearing layers makes sense.

It’s really weird that this is what people are harping on. Should she have worn a bikini instead?

      • HeatherC says:

Exactly. New Yorker here too. Last week was nice and warm, one day it was tshirt and windows down weather. Today I’m wearing a sweatshirt while working from home. We can fit all four seasons into a single day if we’re dared too (lol)

    • LL says:

Jennifer Lopez was walking around with winter coats this weekend and I haven’t seen anyone asking about why she’s wearing COats?! Nor have I seen endless articles about it. 🙄 let it go people.

    • MIBound says:

Just to add on to this line, The temp was not sweltering. A high of 75, low of 50’s is considered cold for those in CA or from the south. In Texas when I lived there, they would have their coats on with that temp. Myself from Michigan, I think it is perfect summer/fall weather.

    • Dee says:

This is not winter clothing. Meghan is dressed for fall, the season that comes in between summer and winter. Not sure where the confusion comes from since we are in late September.

    • HeatherC says:

I myself mused that the outfits looked heavy. (And yes got jumped on for that). Then I remembered, after posting, that they’re in New York. *I’m* in New York. Here in New York we can fit all four seasons into a single day, especially in fall and spring. Plus apparently it’s high end cashmere (of which I only own a pashmina in, a treat to myself) which is breathable and pretty much made for layering.

    • Gingerbee says:

It NY in September and we do layer up, because the temperature can go down by 20 degrees anytime through the day. Also, it may be warm during midday, but when the breeze blows, you do feel the chill. I just cannot be bothered to remove my coat, and it is not strange seeing people with coats on, and some people in tees and shorts.

    • SS says:

It’s okay to ask a question and not every question is an attack. Meghan doesn’t need to be weaponized and used to attack others.

  10. Susan says:

Well, honestly, would we be judging a regular Hollywood person if they were doing a documentary/reality show of their lives? I hope they do their personal time too, not just charity. Don’t @ me, but to me, the charity work is the boring part. I want to see Meghan pick out her outfits and decorate the house!

    • Lizzie says:

Since we don’t know even one thing about it, I’m not sure it’s fair to say ‘a show about their lives’. It might be, okay probably is, about vaccine equity.

    • Merricat says:

They’re not “regular Hollywood people,” for that matter. If they just wanted attention, they’d take their kids to a restaurant or something.

    • Jaded says:

Watching charity work is boring? You’d prefer to see Meghan pick out her outfits and decorate her house? I’ll hold back on what I’d REALLY like to say, but I just can’t with this comment….

      • Susan says:

@jaded,. Note you are on celebitchy, a celebrity gossip website.

      • Susan says:

@jaded, you know you are on a celebrity gossip website called celebitchy.

      • Charm says:

LMAO I dont know what some folks here think theyre achieving when they point out ad nauseam that this is a celebrity gossip site.

I believe there are folks here from age 12-80 so the convos will reflect that. And if the mature, commonsense folks on here find the preteens, teenyboppers and vapid 20-Somethings to be annoying, as they tend to be in RL, then theyre gonna be told. So suck it up.

      • Jaded says:

@Susan, I’ve been a CB reader and commenter for over a decade so I’m perfectly aware I’m on a celebrity gossip website called Celebitchy. However I’m more interested in the successes and positive impact Meghan and Harry are having with their philanthropy. Wanting them to act like Hollywood celebrities showing off their mansions and art and clothes and jewelry and car collections, etc. is missing the point of what the Sussexes represent and are accomplishing. They’re not the Kardashians.

    • Emma says:

I would love to see that too! But I think those days may be over.

  11. Layla says:

I couldn’t stop laughing at the desperation of the deranged when they noticed this. They were throwing themselves all over the place just for one little mic wire 😂😂

    • Lemons says:

It’s weird that they would even freak out…Like this is what professionalism looks like. If they want to make a cool Youtube video…being mic’d up is a necessity at their level.

But the crazies are fighting for mediocrity at the highest levels, so there you go.

      • Becks1 says:

@Lemons, Ahem. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but William and Kate invented YouTube and are the biggest YouTube stars EVER and 800 people watched William’s last YouTube video so you know….they know how to make a cool youtube video.

        😂😂😂

  12. Driver8 says:

Forgive me if you guys have talked about this before, but what kind of security do these two have? I see so many nasty stories and comments about them, it concerns me for their safety.

    • Nemo says:

The kind of security that keeps them safe and protected from your “concern”.
      Sheesh!! Give it a rest.

      • mellie says:

Nemo, I get you jumping all over the mom judge up in that early thread because that was a ridiculous statement, but I agree, there are a lot of scary folks, that for whatever ridiculous reason, don’t like these two and those nut jobs don’t only reside across the pond. With that, I hope these two have security. I’m assuming they do and I would hope they don’t have to pay for it completely out of their own pockets, but I bet they do….

      • Driver8 says:

Jfc, Nemo, I don’t follow these people at all, nor do I ever comment on these stories.. The vitriol I see online is disturbing and I was just curious. Get over yourself.

      • HeatherC says:

The derangers are trying to spread a rumor that H&M received “homeland security” force. So it’s an okay question I guess when trying to sift through their delusions and reality, if the real question is “private security vs security provided by a government”

And yes, NYC has built into its budget selective security measures for visiting dignitaries and other well known people on official business. That in no way means all (or any) of their security was provided by either NYC or US government.

      • Jaded says:

Nemo…their lives were being threatened back in the UK. There are still legions of unhinged, racist nut jobs out there who would love nothing better than an assassination attempt. I have only two words for you — John Lennon.

    • Becks1 says:

They have private security that they pay for. That’s all we know and all we need to know .

  13. LaraW” says:

Can I just humble brag and say I totally called it. Meetings at the UN, going to Melba’s to promote vaccination in communities of color. Still waiting for an interview with Gayle to spread more public awareness and kind of debrief what they did (from their POV) on their trip. 😉

Also love that Meghan is always seen with notes or binders at these high level meetings.

  14. Louise177 says:

I doubt it’s a project about them and more likely about the pandemic. I do think it’s bizarre/eye rolling to call it secret. You can’t just walk around the UN or tape people at leisure. Everyone at their meetings were probably interviewed or approved being taped. But of course the tabloids are reporting it as it’s going to be about Harry and Meghan.

  15. Anonymous says:

How do we know the kids weren’t with them? I keep seeing this in other posts but just because they didn’t get photographed doesn’t mean they weren’t with them?

In any event, I would love to see an Archewell documentary or some behind the scenes clips of their meetings and work in general. I think it would be fascinating.

    • Nemo says:

Thank you for this comment. The “concerned” ones did not even consider this at all.
Guess it shows how concerned they are!

      • Jaded says:

I doubt very much their kids are with them — traveling across the planet with a toddler and a 3 month old during a pandemic simply isn’t safe or even enjoyable for the kids. This isn’t a family vacation, it’s hard work and long hours.

        Signed,

        A Concerned One

      • Emmitt says:

If they flew by private jet, they could’ve easily brought Archie & Lili (and Mama Doria) with them. We don’t know and we don’t need to know.

    • 809Matriarch says:

That’s true. Remember they took Archie on their South African tour and we didn’t see him until they wanted him seen. Those kids could have been tucked away with Doria in a private room at the Carlyle. Harry & Meghan’s team DO NOT LEAK. So there’s no way to know if they were there or not! Frankly, I think they were in NYC with them and the tabloids probably know it too. They are trying to provoke a reaction to get information.

      • JT says:

Exactly. Nobody ever knows where their children are or who their with. I guess if H&M aren’t out at totally unplanned pub lunches, selling out their children then they must be neglectful parents.

Also let’s not forget about how the Queen left Charles and Anne to be in Malta!

  16. Elo says:

I think she is wearing clothes that hide the extra baby pounds still to lose in the middle area. But conspiracy theories are more clickbait that obvious ones. She looks fine.

If they are recording they were allowed to do it. A documentary or just to get record of their activities is smart move knowing how every step they do is commented. Besides, celebrities doing charity work is about to use their platform to make noise and help to spread the message.

  17. Harper says:

Yes, a fly-on-the-wall documentary about their lives. Probably The Real Housewives of Montecito. It’ll have Meghan, and Oprah, Katie Perry, and Katherine McPhee. First episode will open with Meghan hosting drinks by the pool, telling terrible stories about Prince William and everyone laughing uproariously at the FFK of England. Then Harry will pop in and invite everyone into their movie theater, where they will show film clips of DeBlasio and Amina Mohammed scratching themselves behind the scenes –moments that the Sussexes secretly filmed with their very obvious big cameras and everyone will laugh some more.

  18. Merricat says:

Secret taping happens a lot in Britain, I guess. It’s illegal here, so if they’re filming anything, they’ve had permission first. Yeesh, the stupidity is painful.

    • Nic919 says:

Yeah there is no way you can walk into the UN building with a video camera without permission.

I suspect this is going to be a documentary on vaccine equity and we probably won’t see anything until next year when hopefully there has been success with that issue.

  19. Athena says:

@L. You know that the Queen and Phillip left Charles and Anne alone for months on end while they were on tours. And you do know that W&K left George alone in 2014 for one of their tours. And I’ll confess to having left my one year old twins alone for a week with their paternal grandparents so I can attend my grandmother’s funeral in another country.

    • HeatherC says:

After George was born, didn’t W&K leave him with CarolE to go on a vacation? Nothing wrong with that, except I bet there was a lot less mom shaming.

      • Nic919 says:

They went to the Maldives when he was about 7 months old. At the time they were “exhausted” from all the renovations at Anmer.

(Parents can leave their kids to go on holiday all they want, but it was just hilarious pretending that a renovation would exhaust these two, especially since they weren’t pretending to be full time yet)

    • goofpuff says:

Yes, but they’re white so apparently they get a pass.

  20. Here4Tea says:

“They brought their own videographer.” Unless the aforementioned videographer is wearing a cloak of invisibility, it’s not really a secret. Far better to take your pet photographer to a funeral; classy.

    • LL says:

Also just saw Kate did the same thing. But somehow someway no one notices or cares about that. It’s only nefarious when the Sussexes are doing it.

      • goofpuff says:

Exactly! Kate did that to the poor murdered woman’s memorial for her maskless photo-op but hey that’s clearly not as bad because…racist reasons.

    • Just Me says:

      Right On Point!

  21. blisteringsun says:

the comments on these sussex posts have gotten so toxic.

  22. Snuffles says:

I’m leaning towards it being about 90% about Archewell and their philanthropic efforts with maybe 10% glimpse into their home life. Mainly because they work from home.

  23. Sofia says:

Geez what’s up with some people here? Are we still harping on about coats? It’s what? Day 4 of people complaining about it? Like okay she wore coats, you don’t think she should have and think she’s being boiled alive or whatever.

Does that really warrant a 4 day+ discussion? Apparently so according to some.

    • JT says:

These people are so goddamn ridiculous, that I’m embarrassed for them. This is absurd. People are more concerned about Meg wearing a coat than about Andrew trying to evade the law. My goodness.

      • SunRae says:

It shows how utterly unhinged the discourse around Meghan continues to be. It started with nail polish and avocadoes, and these weirdos are trying to keep us in that same gutter going on and on about coats. It’s enough now and I’m glad they’re getting the push back they deserve.

      • Sofia says:

I’m embarrassed for them too. If you’re upset about coats in hot weather and you complained for a day about it, fair enough and okay but if you’re spending a 4th day and possibly beyond, STILL talking about how terrible Meghan is for wearing coats, the issue is with you. Please move on.

    • Nic919 says:

The coat Jlo wore yesterday in NYC looked pretty heavy so we should maybe be concerned about her too. 😐

  24. JennyJazzhands says:

I live for BTS type shows of people doing things they’re passionate about, so tell me when and where and take my money!

  25. Linda says:

Seeing her in that heavy clothing I wondered if she was wearing a bullet proof vest because I’m sure she regularly receives threats. However, probably baby weight or she thought would be colder than it was. There’s no predicting the weather and this would have been planned way in advance. Regardless she didn’t seem to break a sweat unlike her uncle-in-law…..

  26. Rapunzel says:

    Lol…next Daily Fail headline:

“Persperation peril: Meg’s secret videographer catches her sweating all over diners’ food at famous Harlem restaurant. Improperly attired duchess of coats caught deleting footage of her glandular gaffe as embarrassed Harry chides her, ‘why didn’t you read a weather report?'”

  27. Mgal says:

I think the coats are awesome. Also, they serve a few purposes IMO- AC coldness & also, leaving less room for nitpicking her body while remaining fashionable and powerful.

    • Jaded says:

And yet the nit-pickers are still hard at it. The body-shaming and coat complaining is beyond belief.

      • Haylie says:

Yup. A handful of them are still doing it here while crying about being victims when they get clocked for repeating tabloid and deranger smears for the 4th day in a row.

    • EMF999 says:

I live in Florida. It’s 90 degrees F here today and (working from home) I’m wearing shearling lined slippers and a sweater indoors. AC is set at 72 by my husband and I’m freezing. I’d be wearing a “heavy” coat too in NYC in late Sept.

  28. L4Frimaire says:

This trip was a major milestone for the Sussexes and was a major success by all measures. How can they not document it. I’m hoping some of this content will be featured in their podcast ( give us a podcast Sussexes). Some of it will be in presentational materials for fundraising and speaking gigs ( remember those), and hey. We may get Netflix documentary footage, in some context tbd. You know who won’t be featured or mentioned, the salty isle inhabitants. This trip/tour showed how they will operate without the Royal machinery ( and machinations) behind them, and the effectiveness of their team. They went big and it worked very well for them. It is their way to establish themselves and their Archewell organization as it’s own entity, so that going forward, people turn to them because they are Harry and Meghan, heads of Archewell, not the former senior royals.

  29. Jay says:

Meghan wore a coat? In autumn in the Northeast? Outrage! It must be part of a secret Hollywood conspiracy! I didn’t think it was possible for the Sun to be more unhinged, but somehow they keep surpassing my expectations.

And you know they would have been so mad if she wore something that showed her arms or legs – “Former tv actress flaunts post-baby yoga body amid bone-chilling New York temps” and cries of faux concern about whether it’s appropriate or not. She can’t win!

  30. Monica says:

Heavy coats? Hidden mikes? The haters are reaching so hard they’re going to slip a disk.

  31. tamsin says:

I would assume that they are filming material for their website and archival footage for their foundation. They assume all responsibilities for Archewell, their work and their lives.

  32. Likeyoucare says:

Just one cameraman? H&M were slipping.
Did you know the cambridges film their insurance commercial with a whole film crews for their youtube channel?

Of course BM media are worried about H&M tapping themselves while working.
How can BM report lies when H&M had recorded and showing the world about their work.

  33. Shawna says:

I hate to go here, but it’s something no one’s said yet. Perhaps they can’t stand the coats because the coats are too modest—too unrevealing. They want to ogle her postpartum body the same way they want to ogle the children’s hair color. They get angry any time Meghan can call the shots for how she’s visible.

  34. thenoper says:

When my little one was around 6 months old I had to leave her for a 3 days trip with granny because I went as a translator in a business trip in another country. I’ve pumped beforehand because I’m a planner, I took my pump with me so that I can discard the milk at night in the hotel room and managed just fine with everything. However, it was especially difficult trowing the milk away all alone in a completely unfamiliar place, once in a bathroom at customer site because I felt I might start leeking soon, but I carried on like a professional because a lot depended on me. You can imagine the anguish… I am sure it was the same for Meghan, all the faux concern and mom shaming has got to end, we do what we got to do to make ends meet, keep our previous commitements, advance our careers, provide for our families, grow our bussinesses while burdened with our own guilt that we aren’t able to pull off eveything. I don’t need your pressures on top of mine. And guess what, I don’t judge moms that didn”t leave their kids at home either. It’s amazing how you can mind your own bussiness or try to be empathetic to someone who has a different lifestyle than yours.

  35. India says:

It is wonderful they are managing their own media. To make sure it is done honestly and right.

  36. Marivic says:

It’s Meghan’s first public debut after the Commonwealth service. It’s been a long time since. She didn’t disappoint. She’s lovely and oozing with confidence. Prince Harry is a loving husband and a true gentleman. More blessings to them.
