Prince William ‘co-authored’ a USA Today op-ed with Michael Bloomberg

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tour of Scotland

It’s been well-established at this point that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are two keen desperados who will do anything to stay in the news and embiggen themselves. I say “anything,” but that’s not true. They won’t actually do the f–king work. All they’re actually prepared to do is set up pub photoshoots and vaguely copy the Sussexes whenever possible. Prince William’s whole Keenshot/Earthshot thing is William’s attempt to have a “signature” charity or cause, because his brother has Invictus, Sentebale and now Archewell. And William is doing streaming now too! And he makes sad, keen documentaries which no one watches.

William is going to continue to try to both copy and outdo Harry, and the latest message from House Keen is “look, we can hang out with Americans TOO!!” Which American? Michael Bloomberg, the eccentric billionaire who funds a lot of environmental causes (and gun control causes). Bloomberg has agreed to become “a global adviser to the winners of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize.” Baldingham and Bloomberg also coauthored a USA Today column which basically just explains how Keenshot works and why we should all be keen about the environment – you can read it here.

I find it interesting that the piece was not published at Bloomberg News? Then again, Bloomberg News is paywalled and I guess the point of the op-ed was an accessible message that people could read for free. The other point of the op-ed was that William is desperate to tap into an American market the same way Harry has. LOL. Still, the PR around Keenshot is overwrought and not actually that accessible. That’s because William continues to center himself within every article about Keenshot: it’s about how HE is keen, what HE tells HIS children, how upset HE will be if we don’t save the environment.

  1. There is no amount of work they can complete in the next week that can make up for a decade of pure laziness. This is so pathetic that I would honestly feel sorry for them, except they are a group of abusive racists, so instead I will just sit back and munch on my popcorn watching their demise.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

They truly were the laziest couple in that family. They also arrogantly believed their own hype. The spite and destructive forces they unleashed on the Sussexes will ensure that everything they even think to do will crumble.

    • Lorelei says:

      Michael Bloomberg?! LMAO.
Sure, that will definitely help them tap into the younger demographic that the Cambridges need to care about them. So modern! I’m racing off to read it right now, as I’m sure all of you are, too. 🏃🏻‍♀️

I wonder it Elegant Bill typed the first draft on his typewriter.

      • Truthiness says:

I read the USA article, he is STILL trying to be like JFK, invoking his memory in every intro. Enough! The only thing they have in common is not practicing monogamy. The US created NASA around 1959 and JFK pushed to properly fund the Moonshot goal through the government. Awarding a few million in prize money can’t duplicate an entire sector of the US government and stop trying to ride JFK’s coattails! We’ve seen how you treat an American who married into the family, adding one American advisor changes nothing.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@Truthiness, I’ll admit that I’m disappointed in USA Today giving William space. I had respect for them until now. Always liked their Life & Financial sections. I do remember the stories about Murdoch’s tweets and wanting Bloomberg to run against Trump. Hard to imagine Bill co-authoring anything. He really doesn’t come off as smart-he looked confused with the pink water can & repotted a tree incorrectly. Enviro Man, Will is not. Very disappointed with USA Today. Sad to realize these men of wealth have this kind of power. Not practicing monogamy is what they have in common. At least JFK had charisma and looks, Bill does not. Man’s Not Hot.

  2. Elizabeth Regina says:

Poor baby. Imagine being out paced, out classed and out worked by the younger brother meant to be your whipping boy for life. At least William is now being forced to do something outside of football and trimming rose bushes.

  3. JT says:

He wants to be Harry so badly. Why does the FFK need an American audience anyway? Shouldn’t the UK be enough for him?

    • Amy Bee says:

Because the Earthshot prize is supposed to be global.

      • Debbie says:

Then it’s funny that they don’t target their own Commonwealth countries. Instead, they try to appeal to people in the U.S. Just odd.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

William is a lightweight. He has a track record of laziness and at nearly 40 he has no legacy. This is his last chance. The reception the Sussexes got really had him shook hence this hurriedly thrown together zoom. Harry showed that it takes more than birthright, titles, friends in high places to win and retain hearts and minds. Even the most ardent royalists know he is a light weight.

    • swaz says:

He doesn’t have any pride, I would feel so ashamed just copying my sister all the time 😢

    • NightOwl says:

Is there other PR he is doing that is more Commonwealth focused that we just aren’t hearing about? Or even just within the UK? At some point, won’t this backfire since he is actually a working royal, focusing so much attention on the US and not his own backyard?

      • MMadison says:

@NightOwl: What you stated here is the issue. We are reminded ALL of the time that William is the future King of England and Head of the Commonwealth. So why is spending his time focused on America and anything global for that matter. He isn’t The future King of the Globe or Future King of America. He should focus his efforts on the UK and The Commonwealth. Leave America and the rest of the Globe to Harry and Meghan….how difficult is that for the Duke and Duchess of Keenbridge to understand, stay in your lane! Literally, grocery shelves are empty in London, his country men are fighting for gas and there are numerous other issues facing the UK and The Commonwealth yet here he is writing an article in an American paper with an American billionaire about a world issue (not a UK or Commonwealth issue but a world issue)…. it makes ZERO sense.

      • nina says:

Nope. I have friends in South Africa. They are still part of the commonwealth. Zilch, Zero, Nada. But then South Africa is totally in love with H&M so anything Baldy and Keen does most probably wont make the news.

Why is he writing for the American audience? Jealousy. He wants what Harry has. But he will never be able to be Harry. He is as exciting as a used kitchen sponge.

No one cares what Mike Bloomberg has to say. His presidential campaign was an abject failure, Scratching my head over that coupling.

Baldy should give this up as a lost cause, if these are the only Americans he can get to work with him. 900 year old, out of touch billionaires.

    • BothSidesNow says:

Exactly! Why isn’t he helping those in his OWN country access patrol? There were fist fights yesterday, the shelves are empty in the stores and children cannot get to school due to the fuel shortage, well the driver shortage. It’s extremely sad that as the FFK is more interested in “speaking” to the American audience than his own during this turmoil in his own country.

Hey, TOB….guess what. You lost, your brother won!!! He is a worldwide megastar and you are a never-was, including your Stepford wife!! Move on and get some truck drivers in your country or SHARE your petrol!!

  4. Amy Bee says:

I’ve seen tweets from one of the Royal rota touting Bloomberg’s credentials. That showed me that the anger that the press had for Harry and Meghan’s visit to NY was because they are doing things that the press believe William, Kate, Camilla and Charles should be doing and are entitled to. As we’ve seen over the last few years, if the press is angry, it means that the Palace is angry too.

  5. The Duchess says:

Even when he tries to stick one at his younger brother, it still flops miserably. I couldn’t imagine being so desperate, yet still so irrelevant at the same time.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

You are spot on. He needs to do some real soul searching and dig deep to truly find his purpose. He simply does not connect, is very inauthentic and the sycophantic BM are doing him no favours.

    • Lorelei says:

@TheDuchess and @ElizabethRegina, it must be so beyond humiliating to be William right now. Even if his staff blows sunshine up his ass 24/7 and is very careful in deciding what articles they should or should not give him to read, he knows. Deep down, I think he knows how he’s viewed. If the past year has been a competition between him and his brother, he knows who won. And he knows that the rest of the world knows it, too.

If by some chance he still harbored any delusions that he’s even the least bit relevant, the Sussexes’ visit to NYC and the reception they received put that to rest real quick last week.

William is like the popular jock who peaked in high school and it’s been downhill ever since; the person you see at your reunion and are shocked to learn still lives in their parents’ basement and whose greatest accomplishments were decades ago on a football field. Harry might have been more of a late bloomer, but long term, he’s the one who ends up much happier and MUCH more successful. (With the beautiful wife, too!)

I might have had a shred of pity for him if he wasn’t such a cruel person who treated his brother like a piece of dog sh!t stuck to the bottom of his shoe.

    • BothSidesNow says:

I am thinking that Baldimort couldn’t possibly be up to date with the current issues across the globe, as if that anything beyond his nose interests him, unless it’s what he sees at the end of his nose. But, there MUST be someone feeding him the answers to his “discussion” with Bloomberg because I can’t find one iota of interest that TOB has in speaking with Bloomberg, other than trying to “prove” to himself, and the world, that he is as intuitive and interested in world issues across all socioeconomic boundaries as well, right?

  6. Jan90067 says:

TOBB isn’t DOING the *real* work, that’s the difference. He will present (at *his* convenience) for a photo op, *perhaps* a zoom, IF it’s with a celeb/name, but he’s not getting his hands dirty DOING the groundwork. THAT is one of the biggest differences between him and Harry, work-wise.

Also, TOBB doesn’t *really* give a sh*t about the things he *does* put his name to, again…BIG difference btwn him and Harry.

No matter what he does, or how he tries, he will NEVER have Harry’s empathy chip or his charisma. That has to be “factory installed” 😊 TOBB *could* have a modicum of success IF he had a REAL desire to help others, to REALLY make the world better for his kids/all kids… but he really doesn’t. And it shows. In spades.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I agree. Although Charles isn’t exactly known for his empathy and is extremely self absorbed, he does care about the environment and organic farming even if he did exploit the latter as a money making venture. Charles also has a legacy. William however is just lazy and has been spoilt and protected from consequences all his life. He also married a lazier enabler who will do anything to stay with him on paper.

    • Nic919 says:

This is William’s version of Hold Still where he will step in and take credit for the work everyone else has actually done.

  7. Becks1 says:

USA Today, wow. (sorry I know that’s mean lol.)

I do think its clear there is some celebrity interest in William and Kate, someone is able to get names attached to this prize. But how long will those names stick around?

    • GuestWho says:

LOL. That was my first thought too…USA Today?! What a coup. s/

I guess it tracks with his totally hip and cool YouTube career. Don’t forget to like and subscribe!

      • Christine says:

        LMAO!

      • Debbie says:

Don’t scoff guys. Prince Harry met with the current mayor and governor of New York. So, William Zoomed with (let me check my notes here), oh yes, the former mayor of New York. Hm. Take that, Harry, I guess.

    • Amy Bee says:

@Becks: Does this mean that the NYT and WP passed on it or Bloomberg didn’t want to be published in his rivals’ newspapers?

      • Lurker25 says:

My guess is that KP staff went into DEFCON 1/nuclear meltdown imminent mode on Wed/Thur when Sussex NYC news came out. All the rota rats were activated, PR teams ran back from happy hour drinks to hastily put together “pub grub” photo shoots, everyone flipped through contacts to cash in chips and call in favors immediately.

Blomberg fit the “high profile” they wanted (ex-New York mayor, billionaire) and was the only one who agreed to jump onboard in time to crash this out. Anyone with *actual* political capital isn’t getting pulled into this. Bloomberg is doing a favor to the RF, at no cost to him. It’s a win win for him. If he actually cared, this wouldn’t be in USA Today, the free paper on your motel doormat.

      • Lorelei says:

@Lurker lmao that we both made the motel doormat joke. That IS what it’s best known for, though!

    • Lorelei says:

      @Becks, I know! 😂
I mean, I’m sorry, but everyone knows that USA Today is known primarily as the thing on the floor outside your hotel room in the morning, that you kick out of the way so you can get moving. It’s as elegant as William is.

@GuestWho, I’m dying at “don’t forget to like and subscribe!” Dead.

  8. girl_ninja says:

Why is Will trying to appeal to the Americans? Why not just focus on being a British royal and mining the adoration of those in the UK? Oh yeah, because your brother and sister-in-law are killing it in America and you want in on that action. How embarrassing.

  9. Woke says:

This courting of the US market is getting weird. I think they’re competing not necessarily for popularity but for influence, resources, donors. Again weird because after all Charles dealings were revealed I assumed they had the middle east money and that should be enough.

  10. Seraphina says:

So it’s obvious to those of us who follow this saga that Wills and Kate will try to out do Harry and Meghan. As we have here and the crazy pic of them eating at a restaurant from yesterday. And what is hilarious is that W&K will try to keep up (and loathe it) just to keep up with H&M (who love what they do). NOW that is karma.

    • L says:

Yup and even the bond premiere. But even with all that they still aren’t making news or getting engagement at the levels of Harry and Meghan. But they’ll keep trying.

    • Lizzie says:

It’s rare when a copy cat outdoes the original.

    • Debbie says:

I don’t think W & K are trying to outdo H & M, they’re trying to compete with them, while Harry and Meghan are just going about their business dealings. That’s why W & K line up these half-assed, seemingly last minute photo-ops, and events IN THE U.S. for God’s sake. Who the hell needs them? Just stay in your country and foul your own nest.

  11. Kfg says:

Linking with Bloomberg isn’t a good look. He is another entitled, racist, billionaire whom people abhor. He thought he could waltz in and be president after all of the horrible shit he did to black and brown New Yorkers and was dumbstruck that people hate him. This is textbook BRF. Bloomberg doesn’t really care about the environment, he cares about his beach houses. Will doesn’t care about the environment, he just doesn’t want non-white people to have children. Both are vile.

    • Lurker25 says:

THIS. Another incredibly lazy, tone deaf move by KP PR. The clearly wanted an American “name” with money and political leadership credentials to compete with the Sussexes power flex in NYC with the mayor and governor.

They didn’t stop to find out that the current mayor is unpopular and the governor is an unknown who only got the gig when her predecessor was #metoo-ed out.

The media coverage was driven by the crazy popularity of the Sussexes, not the politicians. BuT tHe sUSseXEs ARe NObOdY, so they went fishing for a politician.

Bloomberg blew his political capital and any goodwill with a shocking presidential race that defined rich guy entitlement.

So he’s a good fit for TOB on that front.

Other than that, he has like zero interest in climate change. His main issue is gun control. Baldy likes to shoot. So, oops.

    • Lorelei says:

@KFG and @Lurker, you have to admit that if William was going to do something like this, Bloomberg is the perfect match. He was the one who wanted to continue the incredibly racist “Stop & Frisk.”

      • Lurker25 says:

@lorelei, Bloomberg is good fit for Baldy personally. Would slide right in with ultra-rich, conservative (Bloomberg was a republican for decades who only switched to Dem to get elected in NY. He was then an Independent who switched again to Dem to run for president. Total opportunist), misogynist, entitled, low-key (high-key in private) racist, etc.

For so those reasons, Bloomberg is a very bad fit for what TOB is trying to achieve, which is to steal his younger brother’s thunder. It’s weird how KP cannot and will not (ha!) see that it’s people of color, the younger generations, the people who’s needs have been ignored.. THEY are the masses supporting the Sussexes. The media is just following the crowd, not leading it.

The press might have convinced UK tabloid readers, but the KP PR doesn’t seem to understand that’s only limited to England. It’s backfiring spectacularly abroad.

    • Dierski says:

Completely, @TFK!! That was my first thought: Of course the person who teamed up with TOB is Bloomberg… two rich, racist, white men, gonna unite and tell us all how to save the world! Thank goodness they’re getting involved to shed light on this important issue. /s

    • Kalana says:

And how many NDAs is Bloomberg attached to because of how he sexually harassed his employees? Stop and Frisk was also a racist nightmare policy. The guy is toxic waste.

  12. L says:

We’ll look at here Will working with a”democrat” will the daily mail now print endless articles about being woke. Of course not because they have will in their pocket.
But as they continue to muddy the waters anytime Harry and Meghan do anything on the environment or social justice it will make it harder for Will and Charles cause people will associate them with being “woke” too. We know what Harry and Meghan stand for clearly. Will and Kate just got with whatever gives them PR. Their Tory staff tells us what they really believe

  13. sunny says:

The PR for this is badly done? I mean, William keeps centring himself but it might be more successful if he centred the work and then maybe he could highlight what he learned through the amazing projects?

It is fine to use your celebrity to highlight an issue- Harry and Meghan do it really effectively- however, this seems a bit off? Like as a media strategy, I would have suggested that William’s office use its position to bring together a bunch of global heavy hitters and run op-eds around the world in different media markets over say a 2 week period.

The problem with the Keens really is that they are light-weights who want to be perceived as heavyweights.

  14. Lizzie says:

It has to be so exhausting to continually play catch-up. Which is ironic when talking about the laziest royal couple in several generations.

    • Lorelei says:

@Lizzie, William is like Sisyphus. No matter what he does, he’s never going to catch up to Harry and Meghan.

  15. Scorpion says:

Are we all forgetting that Bloomberg is also a MeToo offender who has used his power and NDAs to subdue women he harrassed/assaulted into silence.

Birds of feather flock together 😐

    • Lorelei says:

New Yorker here, and most of us couldn’t *stand* him when he was the mayor. He’s very arrogant and racist, though, so I can see why he and William are teaming up.

      • Eurydice says:

I worked with Bloomberg back in the dark ages when he was building the Bloomberg network. He was all that you say, but he was also a visionary with his financial services ideas. Unfortunately, he’s one of those people who, because he knows one thing, he thinks he knows everything, like how to run a city and how to run a country. Still, he’s super rich, has a gigantic foundation and really is working on the environment. He’s the US special envoy to the UN on environmental issues and he’s on dozens of committees and councils and whatnot.

My question would be, why hook up with a small lazy fish like William? Maybe he was encouraged by some of the other Earthshot Global Advisors – Bloomberg must know all of them. Maybe they said, “Look, the Earthshot prize isn’t going to do squat to further the winners’ projects; we need real money.” Maybe Bloomberg sees investment possibilities in some of the winners. I don’t know, it’s weird.

  16. Merricat says:

Lol. Why does he care about the U.S., when it’s been proudly disseminated that the royal family hated Meghan for being an American?
    Next.

    • Lurker25 says:

He wants whatever his brother has.
He was born to inherit everything, but his idea of everything seems to mean his brother must have nothing.
@tishtocking on Twitter unearths great video clips. There’s one in which an approx. 5yo William is totally ignoring Diana’s calls to come get/do something. She finally gives up and says, “alright, then Harry will have all the fun.”
The effect is immediate. William races to her, legs pumping, screaming “I want it! I want it!!”

      The dynamic was always there.

(An argument could be made that Diana’s parenting here exacerbated sibling rivalry, but I think she saw what was always there and tried to re-level. But she had less influence over them after the divorce since the RF was strict about custody… Then she died, and no one was there for Harry.)

      • Nyro says:

Yup. And there’s another clip where Diana is trying to get William to hold a small pet, a rabbit I believe. He pushes the animal away and says, “no, no!”. Diana then turn to toddler Harry who then takes the furry creature into his arms and snuggles him. William immediately turns around and starts yelling “No, I wanna hold it, let me hold it!!”

There’s also another clip of them on vacation doing a photo call for the rota, and little Harry picks up a puppy and all the adults start swooning because it’s so cute. William sees this and then stomps over to Harry and snatches the puppy out of Harry’s arms and puts him on the ground. He couldn’t stand the attention his brother was getting.

      • Lorelei says:

@Lurker, how pitiful is that? It might have been funny when he was a small child, but he’s a forty-year-old man now, FTLOG, yet he still hasn’t outgrown it.

Does Kate have to somehow sneak vegetables into brownies in order to get him to eat them? (Referring to Jessica Seinfeld’s “Deceptively Delicious” cookbook for those who aren’t familiar with it)

    • Lizzie says:

Exactly. There is no reason for the future king of England to care about the US. Except that his brother has eclipsed him in stature in the US and he is a petty, jealous person.
If he was smart, which no, he would work nonstop, and quietly, in all UK countries and make himself beloved. People LOVE other people who work hard without looking for recognition. Become the future king that makes an effort to go everywhere and meet with as many as possible and leave the superstar stuff to Harry. In other words he needs to stop chasing Harry and differentiate himself.

    • Eurydice says:

To quote Fran Liebowitz – “Children are rarely in the position to lend one a truly interesting sum of money. There are, however, exceptions, and such children are an excellent addition to any party.” For “children” read “Meghan” and Bloomberg is the exception.

  17. Eurydice says:

I wonder if this sudden interest in America is also about the recent pact between US, UK and Australia. The UK has to attach itself somewhere now that it’s detached itself from the EU.

This doesn’t make me admire William at all, but if envy of H&M gets him off his lazy bum to do something for somebody other than himself, then that’s a good thing at the end of the day.

  18. Izzy says:

Co-authored with what, a hammer and chisel? He can barely type. At least Meghan writes her own op-eds.

  19. Nyro says:

The last time I even thought about Bloomberg was during his first, and only, presidential debate when Elizabeth Warren ethered him over the fact that he was such a sexual harassing menace that he didn’t even know how many women he made sign NDAs. Good going, Will. 😂

  20. Janice Hill says:

I think pairing with Bloomberg to write an op ed is a no-brainer for William. Someone at Boomberg can write it and he can sign it. Task done.

  21. Jaded says:

OK this puts the frosting on the cake of elitism, misogyny and racism. How on earth can William and his handlers not know how horrible Bloomberg is?!? He defends stop-and-frisk policies with POC. Even Trump called him a racist. Bloomberg actually said…“I think we disproportionately stop and frisk whites too much, and minorities too little.”

At least 17 women have taken legal action against him and his company, including a claim in the 1990s that he told an employee who had just announced she was pregnant to “kill it.” Court records documented these choice remarks he made about and to women…”I’d like to do that piece of meat,” and “I would DO you in a second.”

Once again the BRF falls flat on it’s face.

    • Emma says:

The BRF does not remotely care about addressing problems like misogyny and racism, though. That’s sort of their own working philosophy as well. Look at how they shield Andrew and how Philip was lionized and treated with kid gloves. Or how the queen continues to be so above criticism despite her shady record. They just see Bloomberg’s money and his philanthropic history.

  22. Legalese says:

Everything William tries to do ends up being at least slightly pathetic. Like you really couldn’t get a better newspaper than USA Today? And a more relevant figure than Bloomberg? It’s just so desperate and not even done right.

  23. Debbie says:

On a superficial level, I noted that in the first picture William was fully clenched. The third picture, I would entitle, “A young Mr. Burns.” The middle picture, well at least someone got William to unclench long enough to snap the photo. Mazel tov. Yay.

  24. Tessa says:

Harry and Meghan posed with the current NYC Mayor now will has to get associated with a Former Mayor. How very obvious of him.
