Madonna & Lady Gaga play-fight on SNL

So many people thought I was full of crap when I thought Megan Fox did a half-decent job on Saturday Night Live’s season premiere. I stand by my opinion, though – especially after the second show, this time with Ryan Reynolds as guest star. He was so unfunny, he made Megan Fox look like Lucille Ball. Not even a “surprise” guest appearance by Ryan’s wife of one year Scarlett Johansson improved the show, and I’m a fan of hers.

If the giant sucking sound of Ryan’s comedic acting wasn’t bad enough, he (and Scarlett) got totally upstaged by She Who Lives To Upstage, Madonna. Madge brought her gristle to the “Deep House Dish” sketch, which is usually pretty fun. Kenan Thompson (“DJ Dynasty Handbag”) is the “host” of a crummy house music show, with Andy Samberg (T. Shane) playing his clueless sidekick. Kenan got to announce, “Performing together for the very first time, Lady Gaga and Madonna!” and the cameras went to Gaga and Madonna, both with their backs to the cameras, both clad in black underwear-type outfits, black boots, and very similar hairstyles. My first thought? Lady Gaga has a much cuter ass than Madonna.

When they turned around and did the “reveal” my second thought was “Madge will do anything to promote her greatest hits album.” Once they started dancing, it became really, really obvious that they hadn’t rehearsed the skit – either that, or they hadn’t rehearsed it enough. I think Madge missed like five cues in a row. They started play fighting, although Madonna really looked like she was trying to f-ck up Gaga’s weave. DJ Dynasty ordered Madge and Gaga to come sit down, and then he physically got in between them. Gaga and Madge tried to continue to play-fight, and once again Madge’s timing was totally off. DJ Dynasty ordered them to “kiss and make up” which they tried to do. DJ Dynasty got in there just before the lip-lock. Gaga and Madge then ended up groping Kenan, with Madge almost humping his leg. Andy Samberg piled on at the last minute. My last thought? Madge is going to break something if she keeps rough-housing with all of these youngsters.

Here’s the thing – it would have been really cool if everyone (cough Madge cough) had hit their marks. It would have been a really great moment for pop music. Instead, it just seemed kind of sad, in my opinion. Sigh. Sad day.

Wow-this was one of those things you watch and just cringe. Not remotely funny. And while I have always liked Madonna’s music-the woman has NO presence or charisma when she “acts”. 5 minutes of my life I can’t get back . . .

OK, i am biased, but all i see was Madonna looking better than ever and outshining Lady Gaga (what kind of name is that anyway, it sounds like babyfood hihi).
The sketch looked cheap, but that was not just M’s fault. The whole decor looked cheap and i don’t no who those two guys are, but please as if they were hysterical funny.

u must be kiddin..!madonna looked hot and her arms looked Surprisely normal and toned….i’m not a fan but i have to admit that she’s hot

For a guest host, Ryan wasn’t on very much. And though I often fast-forward through the musical guests, I was shocked by how good Lady Gaga’s second performance was. That chick actually has range.

I tuned in to SNL just because GaGa was the musical guest. The skit above was funny and I do believe the set was made to look like the old MTV days, possibly back in the 80s to early 90s just because of the clothes and hair styles of Kenan and Andy.

But the best skit with GaGa in it had to be when she and Andy were in the bubble outfit. I died laughing.

I didn’t know beforehand that Lady Gaga was the musical guest, nor did I know Madonna was going to pop in, so at first I thought it was two castmembers pretending to be Madonna and Gaga. And even after I realized it was the actual singers, I still wasn’t positive that was Madonna. Her face looks bizarre – especially those cheeks!

I dont’ know what show you’re watching, kaiser, but this one was MUCH more like a season premiere than Megan Fox’s. Ryan’s comedic timing is great, Scarlet was HILARIOUS, and the Gaga/Madge sketch was decent, and would have been better if Madonna’s mic was working. Also, the digital short was SUBLIME.

Seriously, though – I want to know: WHAT SHOW ARE YOU WATCHING? Megan was hilariously unfunny, and Ryan was solid. No home-runner, but good timing and general charisma made him a solid performer. Add that to the cameos from stars like Elijah, Scarlet, and Madonna, plus the Gaga/Andy sketch at the end….it was a great show and it felt like SNL was investing in this one like they failed to invest in the premiere.

It was better than last week’s, I think, but still not great. That particular sketch was terrible – the timing was off, it did seem unrehearsed, and the whole thing was more uncomfortable and weird than funny. I thought it was an actress playing Madonna until I looked a little closer – she didn’t look AS scary as she normally does these days, but I think they were generous with the makeup.
I was surprised by the musical performance at the end – I figured her for a no talent/computer generated voice pop idiot, but she does seem to have some actual talent. Wonder why she has to have all the stupid costumes and stuff if she really can sing.

I thought Ryan Reynolds was better than Megan Fox, who was boring and unfunny. Frankly, he didn’t have great material, but I thought he did everything that could be done with it.

As for the Madonna-Lady GaGa “fight,” Mr. Nonymous and I had a debate over whether that was really Madonna or Abby Elliott–but there’s no way those arms are anyone but Madonna’s. Other than that (and her speaking voice), she was pretty unrecognizable.

@Waldemar: I agree that Madonna looked better (and I don’t think she looks all that great). But the set decor is supposed to be cheap–that’s part of the premise of that recurring sketch.

sorry but what show you’re watching?? SNL??

megax fox was terrible. I liked Ryan and his comedic timing and charisma.

  12. lolo says:

How can someone find this even the tiniest bit funny? Explain.

  13. daniel says:

this is madona trying to be “cool”. she old, she needs to retire, I’m done with her…

  14. lucy says:

I do find it funny that Madonna continually tries to associate herself with whoever the hot young act of the moment is. Britney, the Justin Timberlake, and now this. I’m sure she does it in an effort to stay young and relevant, but all I ever think is wow, she’s old enough now to be their mom.

  15. DBK says:

You guys are all nuts. The skit was obviously meant to be a parody of the imagined feud between GaGa and Madonna because GaGa is like the modern version of Madonna–the Wharholian concept of fame, show, dance, entertainment, with a cerebral take. The idea was that Madonna is jealous and cannot grasp GaGa’s appeal (or her language, like her creation of the slang term “disco stick”) and that she is thus out of touch . They were supposed to be two sides of the same coin–including the alternative take on bisexuality (which is where the whole kissing thing was meant to be funny).

  16. irl500girl says:

That skit was pretty good. It’s cool GaGa and Modonna did it together – puts a cork in the feud they supposedly have going on.
Deep Dish is always awkward like that – even if Kristin Wigg is playing a musical guest. I think it’s part of the skit that it’s not very polished. . .supposed to be a couple of club kids doing an amateur cable access show.
Most of the cable access shows Ive seen are off their marks alot.
