CNN has this video of Matthew McConaughey working out with high school students in his “J.K. Livin'” after school program at Venice High School in Venice, CA. This video out last week, but it’s new to me and I was so impressed with McConaughey that I wanted to cover it. I love talking about this guy because he’s such a character.
McConaughey visited the school with his pregnant girlfriend Camilla Alves, and explained that he founded the charity four years ago with her. He told the students that the J.K in his charity stands for “Just Keep,” and that the figure of the man in the logo is an illustration the last photo ever taken of his father ten days before he passed. He founded J.K. Livin to help feel a connection to his dad by giving back.
The J.K. Livin foundation is geared toward helping students live a healthy lifestyle through exercise and diet, and McConaughey explained “We’re not talking about making everyone into cover models… it’s about physically making you feel better, giving you more energy [and] teamwork.”
McConaughey is shown skipping rope with the students, doing jumping jacks and running up and down bleachers. I know I didn’t enjoy working out in high school because gym always landed in the middle of the day and left me all sweaty and with messed up hair. (Yes, I’ve always been vain like that. I did play sports though.) If Matthew McConaughey stopped by once in a while after school I would have loved it, though. Good for him for sharing his love of fitness with kids! You can learn more about the J.K. Livin Foundation and give back on their website.
Love this guy! I wonder if weed is part of the healthy living program he’s imparting to the kids 🙂
I don’t know why, but I imagine him exercising with these students in loosely fitting shorts with no undies and his junk flapping about. Since he is so free minded and mellow, you know.
^ LOL
LOL. Much luv Firestarter.
He’s making an effort to help, more than a lot of people would ever do, although they don’t mind criticizing someone who does.
I think I would have paid a lot more attention in Gym class if Matthew was running around in front of me 🙂
I think he’s a nice guy and of course his charity is great. But all I can think about is his refusal to wear deodorant – I can smell him from here!
