Sandra Bullock is starring in The Lost City with Channing Tatum, out next week! I just saw Dog, Channing’s directorial debut, and although it was a little formulaic it was a sweet movie and I’m glad I saw it in the theater. Now that it feels safe-ish to go back to the movies (I wear a mask), I’m really looking forward to seeing The Lost City too. It’s just the kind of stupid fun movie I like to see on the big screen and it’s under two hours. Runtime always factors into my decision whether to see a movie in theaters. Plus it currently has 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes!
Bullock remains massively popular, but she chooses her projects carefully and has been taking years off work. She did Our Brand is Crisis in 2015, but didn’t have another film out until 2018, when Bird Box and Oceans Eight were released. Then she took another break until The Unforgivable, which was out on Netflix a few months ago. Bullock says that’s by design and that she’ll probably be off soon until her children, Louis, 11, and Laila, eight, are in their late teens. She made these comments at the SXSW film festival, as reported by Variety:
Bullock told the crowd she is focusing on raising her kids. A young female audience member brought up Bullock’s role as a producer in comic George Lopez’s landmark sitcom, and asked if she planning on doing more creative work with the Hispanic and Chicana communities.
“I love stories that show the imperfection of love within families and communities. I would love to [continue doing that] when I’m done being a mom. I’ll get back to it. I don’t know when. Probably when they’re teenagers, solidly 16- or 17-year-olds.” She echoed the sentiment again, when another audience member asked the cast and directors about their upcoming projects.
It’s possible that she means that she won’t take on extra work until her kids are older, but it sounds like she said she’s planning more time off. Sometimes I wonder if I would quit working if I had the money. It would be nice to work less, but I like what I do for the most part. Also, I only have one older child and that’s different than having two under 12, especially over the past two years when we’ve spent so much time at home. I also have to consider that I work from home and that’s much different than being on location and having to work over 12 hour days.
Bullock explained how she got Brad Pitt to do a cameo on the film. Apparently they have the same hairdresser and their hairdresser “told him to do my movie and she told me to do his movie.” That’s wild! Bullock added that it was true and she wasn’t joking. I bet there are some service people in Hollywood who are power brokers behind the scenes. What’s more is that Brad worked a fourth day for free despite only being paid for three. That’s nice. Oh and as Sandra mentioned she’s in Brad’s assassin movie, Bullet Train, out this July. After that we’ll just have to wait to see her again. All the more reason to see The Lost City! I bet it will kill at the box office.
Her fashion on this press tour has been so great. It’s a little funky but I like that.
And Daniel Radcliffe is in this!

I’ve become a big fan of her work. She’s so compelling, especially as she ages.
She’s a great actor, always delivers. Seems like a genuinely kind person.
I love her and her work. In these photos though, I think her makeup and clothes arent great. Almost elderly, which she isn’t. I’m glad she is so happy being a mom and able to have the time she needs with her kids.
I’m looking forward to it. I finally went back to the theater (masked) with a friend of mine, and I think this would be a fun, light one for us to see together. I find Channing a bit bland as an actor, but Sandra usually has enough charisma to carry a film. I like her Ocean’s movie a lot too.
I don’t blame her for taking time off. She can afford it, she’s been working forever, and probably really loves having more down time with her kids. She can pick and choose projects that interest her, and spend the rest of her time with her family.
I’m looking forward to this movie too. It looks like a good time and Sandra is always charming and funny to watch.
I love that dress she’s wearing in the top pic. Gorgeous.
But Sandy, come on…Brad Pitt? Ugh.
He really is Teflon isn’t he?
What’s the point of earning lots of money if you can’t prioritise your life to suit yourself?! Good for her!
This looks like an updated/more complicated “Romancing The Stone,” but, hey, so long as the chemistry is right and there are plenty of goofy secondary characters, it might be cute…
