Here are some premiere photos from Downton Abbey: A New Age. That’s what they’re calling this latest sequel, because Downton Abbey: Let’s Go To France For No Reason was apparently too on the nose. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll watch this. I loved the original DA series and I enjoyed the first movie, which was as low-stakes as it gets. The premiere was pretty low-stakes as well, with pretty British people (and at least two Yanks) wearing pleasant clothes.
Fashion notes: Laura Carmichael wore Giambattista Valli, Michelle Dockery wore Valentino and Elizabeth McGovern is in Azzi & Osta. McGovern is rocking the hell out of her salt-and-pepper hair. She looks so striking! As for McGovern’s “daughters,” Dockery looks great and I like that she kept it simple-yet-glam. I think Laura’s look is too much, but whatever. She’s Edith, Edith always gets it a little bit wrong. Bonus Tuppence Middleton, Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy.
Other random notes: I’ve always found Allen Leech really attractive and sexy in a lowkey way, but that ensemble is doing him no favors.

I have never been able to get into Downton Abbey, I keep trying. I think on my last go around I got halfway through the second season. Maybe I’ll see if I can get into the movies, lol. Less of a time commitment.
But yay for pretty dresses lol.
I couldn’t either. Mostly because I couldn’t stand the character of the oldest daughter (the “Scarlett” character, as it’s basically Gone With the Wind with British accents).
Yeah, I can’t stand Mary. I always want bad things to happen to her. Edith is my favorite. I was thrilled when her marriage meant she’d end up with higher rank than Mary.
LMAO of Gone with the Wind in British! That’s so accurate. With one huge difference. Scarlett learns a lot and grows as person from miserable experiences of the war. In DA, the two younger sisters are the ones who are fundamentally changed by the war, not Mary.
Elizabeth McGovern for the win! Edith looks gorgeous and glam. I had no idea that there was going to be another DT movie. I still havent gotten over Matthew.
I don’t like Michelle’s dress, it reminds me of that gold dress with the cape that Keen wore to the Bond premier. The rest of the dresses are nice but the train on Laura’s dress is way too long. I guess its good for social distancing though, since people would be cautious of stepping on it.
McGovern looks the best. I love Allen, but his look is way too casual.
The random red strip on Claire Danes’ gown looks like an adhesive strip for sizing left on a T-shirt from Target. Why is it there?
Yeah, what IS that thing?
Michelle Dockery’s dress looks rather matronly for someone so young & beautiful.
I thought the exact same thing.
I loooove Michelle’s lip and nail color. It looks so amazing with her coloring!
So this is embarrassing, but although I watched every episode and movie, I don’t recognize some of these folks with certainty! Elizabeth McGovern doesn’t look like EM, does she?? It’s not a diss; she literally doesn’t look like the same person to me. ???
It’s the hair. I love her natural gray. But it changes the way we see her when we aren’t used to it.
I love, love Laura Carmichael’s dress! She looks amazing!!
Why is Clare Danes still blonde? I guess it worked for Homeland, but red hair just suits her so much better. Or at least a more rosy blonde.
There is nothing wrong with finding Allen Leech attractive. That is all. Carry on.
Ahh! I can’t wait to see this movie! We’ll probably buy it the DVD as I have everything else, the entire series plus the first movie (my last time going to a theatre). I notice that Tuppence Middleton is expecting. I just watched her as Mrs Havisham in Dickensian recently, she was great. I guess they’ll be showing her (Lucy) and Tom together/married.
I love Michelle and Elizabeth’s looks, gorgeous. And Hugh Bonneville’s glasses, giving it his Firth best.
