Okay, so I have a confession: I think I might be an idiot about Trooping the Colour? Weeks ago, Buckingham Palace made the big announcement that the Trooping the Colour balcony will only be for “working royals.” That was their not-so-clever way of “banning” the Sussexes and Prince Andrew from the balcony. I’ve thought, this entire time, that the “balcony ban” meant that the Sussexes and Yorks would not even bother to attend Trooping in any capacity. But then in all of the Jubbly-hype pieces, they kept saying that Harry and Meghan might come to Trooping as “VIPs” but not appear on the balcony. And now it turns out that Andrew was originally going to do something at Trooping but now he’s not? What kind of “ban” is this?
Prince Andrew is not expected to attend Trooping the Colour after being snubbed for the most important military event of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, MailOnline can reveal.
As colonel of the Grenadier Guards, Andrew has previously played a key role in the ceremony, riding out by the Queen’s side as the regiment’s representative. Since being stripped of the title earlier this year the Duke of York was not expected to play an active part in the event, but the possibility of him appearing with other royals on Horse Guards Parade as a spectator was left open.
However, Andrew will not appear in public at all this year, a military source told MailOnline. The prince has already been barred from appearing on the Buckingham Palace to watch the RAF Red Arrows’ flypast – as have Harry and Meghan.
[From The Daily Mail]
So basically the whole thing about a balcony ban was just a minor logistical thing? And Andrew was, at some point in recent weeks, genuinely going to turn up at Trooping and sitting “on Horse Guards Parade.” Granted, that still would have been terrible and I’m glad he’s not going to that. But… will Harry and Meghan actually go to Trooping then? Will they go and then the Windsors will make a point of seating them away from everyone else, in a lower position? And they won’t be part of the “parade.” I’m sure that was actually offered to them. I hope they laughed and said “no.”
… This also means that the first time we’ll likely see the Sussexes and Andrew publicly is at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Friday.

Tricky Andrew, always trying to slither his way in to these events. Maybe he delusionally thought “making amends” now gave him a get out of jail pass. I really hope the kibosh is finally put on that.
Yeah, what a poisonous snake. He’s goes to see the Queen every day, racking up brownie points. I don’t know how or why he bought 2 new obscenely expensive cars in the last year or two but this guy doesn’t want to live within his means. He wants his old status back but more importantly he wants “jobs” that bring money. I bet he still has Saudi connections, Charles needs to make sure this snake isn’t up to his old tricks.
Andrew is such a dolt!
An article all about Andrew — and the Fail has to slip in a Harry and Meghan mention. For crying out loud …
Trooping is public too, in that it’s out in the open, so I imagine we will get some views of H and M’s appearance at Trooping.
They’re not going to be there
@Em, I guess we’ll see, but I was responding to K’s article saying they were to be VIPs, yet the first time we’ll see them publicly is only with Andrew at the church service. If they’re st the trooping we’ll see them and not Andrew.
This family of grifting welfare recipients have no shame at all.
Maybe he’ll appear in effigy. Hey, a girl can dream.
I like this idea! like Guy Fawkes Day in June! we did hear there might be protests…
As much as I hate to admit it, the reason Andrew will not be seen publicly during the Jubbly is because the The Daily Fail and commentariat of The Daily fail does not want him to attend in any way whatsoever. As the future Charles III feels the exact same way, we now have very strange bedfellows working together towards an honorable goal of keeping Andrew out of view.
In spite of all Andrew’s efforts and all efforts on his behalf, Charles won’t have it. Andrew may get to turn up at events, even those broadcast to the public but he will not be in uniform for anything.
The thing is that if the Sussexes are seated away from everyone else at a lower position, they will still be rock stars. Cameras will be going crazy over them rather than pointed at the balcony. Meghan will look gorgeous and serene and Harry will be by her side. It would literally be proving the point that hierarchy and monarchy mean nothing. Ooh, y’all get to stand on a balcony? But fucking deal. We can stand on the ground, while y’all try to be petty and put us in our place, and our heads are high. Where do you think the cameras will be aimed? I mean come on. That said, I have no idea if Meghan and Harry are going to trooping and am gonna trust them to make the best decision for themselves.
*meant to say big fucking deal but couldn’t correct in time. However, but fucking deal works too.
I’m actually disappointed. They should have him parading with the “working” royals. He represents the monarchy and what they stand for so put him on public display. I’d love to see him sneak his way onto the balcony. I hope that H&M said “no thanks” to the VIP garbage at the Trooping and find something better to do.
The british media is so wrong these days, i feel like some top royals have been feeding sh!t news to some people in their teams to see who is the leaker and then just announcing the truth. Even stuff about the sussexes, the press writes something and then the sussexes put out the truth. Good for purging garbage
DuchessL, I don’t think H&M are putting out anything. They made it clear which publications there would not have any dealings with. This actually could be BP and CH who are weeding out the leaks and then correcting the record. It’s all interesting.
I agree that Andrew should be fully displayed as the symbol of the RF by standing in the center of the balcony, with Charles on one side and William on the other. I am not kidding. Show your wares truthfully, Windsors.
