Was Brooklyn Beckham’s Superdry brand contract canceled because he eats meat?

Brooklyn Beckham has gotten so much from nepotism. I mean, maybe he’s a nice guy with a good personality, but his array of careers and his “modeling” would never have been possible without his name and his parents. Brooklyn’s current career is some kind of social media chef thing, but as always, he has other incomes. Last year, he got a £1 million contract with Superdry, sort of a brand ambassadorship where Brooklyn was supposed to wear and model Superdry’s vegan shoes. Superdry just canceled Brooklyn’s contract though… because he eats meat?

Fashion firm Superdry has ended its reported £1 million deal with Brooklyn Beckham, The Mail on Sunday can reveal. The company announced in November that the eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham was their new brand ambassador, celebrating with a party at its flagship store in London’s Oxford Street, where guests included Liam Gallagher’s sons Gene and Lennon, the Marchioness of Bath and Lady Kitty Spencer.

In his role, Brooklyn, 23, posed in Superdry clothing and uploaded promotional posts to his 14 million Instagram followers. However, he drew criticism for an apparent conflict with some of his other business ventures. Social-media users pointed out that he was promoting Superdry’s vegan trainers despite being a meat-eating chef who has been filmed cooking steak.

Unveiling Beckham as a brand ambassador last year, Superdry boss Julian Dunkerton said: ‘To have the endorsement of Brooklyn is a testament to what we’re doing as a brand.

‘As a business, we want to effect positive change for present and future generations, a generation that Brooklyn is speaking to.’

Brooklyn said of a Superdry top at the time: ‘It is so comfortable – my fiancee steals my Superdry T-shirts because they are so soft. She likes to sleep in them. There is also a jacket I really connected with – it is orange and cropped so it sits just above my bum, which I like in my T-shirts and jackets. And the shoes are vegan – how is that possible?’

Confirming the end of the deal, a Superdry spokesman said last night: ‘We always review the ambassadors who feature in our campaigns and decided to work with a different range of talent.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Yeah, the Mail is the one saying that Brooklyn’s contract was canceled because he eats meat. Superdry isn’t saying that. I suspect Superdry canceled the contract because Brooklyn was promoting or wearing shoes and sportswear from other companies, and possibly even tagging those companies on social media. It would be ridiculous to cancel someone’s contract because they cook and eat meat, my God. Especially since the whole purpose of eco-fashion and sustainable fashion is to encourage more people to wear the stuff and buy the stuff, in general, because it’s better overall. You shouldn’t have to pass some kind of vegan purity test to WEAR SHOES.

This man is the ugliest Beckham by far and has no charisma so the fact he has any deals in the first place speaks to how much nepotism has helped him but it won’t keep the contracts for him if he can’t even follow through on the deals.

    • Summer says:

I agree 100%!! He’s not even attractive. Nepotism is completely responsible for every single thing he has “achieved.” He seems to bring absolutely nothing to the table.

      • Julia K says:

How long before wife thinks the same thing?

      • Noki says:

Damn!!! You guys sound as vicious as the daily fail readers, they are absolutely horrible to Brooklyn. There are worst nepotism offsprings, atleast he seems kind and respsectful. Do you remember the terrors that were the Osbournes, Nicole Ritchie, etc give him a break.

      Agreed!

  2. Lawcatb says:

I don’t understand why he’s a thing. Physically, he’s . . . not hitting it for me, and personality-wise, he seems like a big charisma vacuum.

  3. Lexistential says:

I thought they canceled it because he’s a charisma void under all the hype.

  4. Maddy says:

All he’s done in his life is fail upwards. It’s really quite amazing when you think about it.

  5. MaryContrary says:

I don’t want to trash this kid-but come on. He is missing any kind of “star quality”-he’s not a remotely interesting nepo baby.

  6. Betina says:

He looks like Jared Leto in the header picture

  7. XOXO says:

I can’t be angry about nepotism. If I had kids, wealth and connections, I’d set my kids up too. I’d also get them involved in a lot volunteering and charity work, though.

I just read tea somewhere that said the wife is shading Victoria and David for “pressuring” Brooklyn too much and that he’s super-close to his father-in-law and asks him for business advice all the time. Have a feeling the Beckhams are not thrilled with their new daughter-in-law or her family.

This young man could carve out such a great life for himself by staying out of the limelight, learning, working, perfecting whatever things he loves to do. Maybe I’m wrong, but he comes across as a decent guy living with the pressure of endless attempts to monetize him and his last name. I honestly feel sorry for him that he grew up in a fishbowl with publicity-guzzling parents and is living a life that really might not fulfill his true nature and utilize his strengths.

  10. Amy Bee says:

But no one pays attention to Brooklyn Beckham so Superdry was dumb to give him a sponsorship deal in the first place.

  11. pottymouthpup says:

Since when is he a chef? I thought he had some reality show somewhere in which chefs taught him how to cook things but that doesn’t make him a chef.

Also, you’d think that a vegan company selling a vegan clothes/shoe line would check to make sure the person they hire as a spokesmodel was an actual vegan. The primary target audience for sales is vegans who are going to be turned off by a branded fronted by someone who, very publicly, cooks and eats meat. There are more than enough vegan or even vegetarian actors & athletes that would have helped their sales

I just….like…how does he have who he has for a dad yet look so bland? Even the air around him is so unaffected and dry.

MaryContrary, tell me more, please. What happened at the wedding? DETAILS.

I feel bad for celebrity offspring sometimes. Imagine having parents who are world famous for some remarkable talent or genius (or in Posh’s case, extreme luck), but then you turn out to be just a regular joe with no discernible skill (much less talent like your parent). Yeah, these kids are rich and don’t have to worry about any of life’s real problems, but damn it would suck to know you will never measure up and are not special in any way.

    • Julia K says:

This celebrity offspring had the financial backing to have accessed a great education, resources to counsel and mentor him in his field of interest, knowing that he would not have to work 2 jobs to support himself while a student. Mental health counselling to help him develop his own trajectory independent of his famous parents was just a phone call away. Where was Mom and Dad? His high school counselor? So many people missed the boat here. Too late to play the blame game. Now it’s on his shoulders to build himself a life, and it doesn’t include living off your wife’s money.
