Sarah Michelle Gellar is finally coming back to supernatural TV. She made a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con last week to announce her involvement in the upcoming Teen Wolf spinoff, Wolf Pack. She’ll executive produce and star in the show as an arson investigator who investigates the inciting event of the series — a wildfire that awakens the werewolf that connects the four teen stars.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is a long way from Sunnydale.
The Emmy Award winner, 45, is joining a new supernatural TV universe as she was announced to star in the upcoming Teen Wolf spinoff Wolf Pack during a surprise appearance on the parent show’s panel Thursday at San Diego Comic-Con, according to Entertainment Weekly.
She plays arson investigator Kristin Ramsey, who sets out to find the teenage arsonist who started a massive wildfire in Los Angeles, awakening a supernatural predator that terrorizes the city.
Additionally, Gellar will serve as an executive producer on the show, for which Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis will return to write and EP. They were joined Thursday by OG stars Tyler Posey and Tyler Hoechlin.
“Everyone knows that Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a huge influence on Teen Wolf,” Davis, 47, said during the panel. “So I always thought it would be amazing if we could bring Sarah Michelle Gellar back to a horror show.”
Gellar added: “Everything these guys have been saying about family and the atmosphere of Jeff’s shows is really true. I hope you guys come join us!”
Based on the book series by Edo van Belkom, Wolf Pack “follows a teenage boy and girl whose lives are forever changed when a California wildfire awakens a terrifying supernatural creature. Wounded in the chaos of its attack, the teens are inexplicably drawn to each other and to two others who were adopted 16 years earlier by a park ranger after another mysterious wildfire. As the full moon rises, all four teens come together to unravel the secret that connects them — the bite and blood of a werewolf,” according to a plot summary from Paramount+.
The series also stars Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson and Tyler Lawrence Gray, and filming began last month in Atlanta. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
This is an exciting announcement for SMG/Buffy and Teen Wolf fans alike. The original series stars were even on hand for the announcement. Aside from some guest appearances and voice acting, SMG hasn’t appeared on serialized TV since The Crazy Ones with the late Robin Williams in 2013. I’ve missed her on TV. It’s been so long that I kind of thought she was done with it and doing her other projects, like her baking company. And her kids were pretty young, but now they’re around 13 and 10 so that was probably a factor. I’ve been hoping for her to come back in something really good. This isn’t exactly what I pictured, but judging by the original series it will probably be popular and the executive producer credit is great. I’ll definitely check it out when it airs. There’s no premiere date yet, but filming started last month.
P.S. Whatever filter is on these pics makes her look like a cartoon of herself, but I like to think the leather skirt is a nod to her Buffy days!
wow, I guess I haven’t seen SMG in years because even without the cartoon filter, I would never have recognized her. I guess she just permanently looks like she did in Buffy in my mind.
She does look really different – maybe plastic surgery?
Except in the comic-con pics she looks like herself.
Those instagram pics are freaky because they look like a completely different person
To me the Comicon ones are pretty different from her old look too. But maybe it’s just different makeup or something.
Wow she is nearly unrecognisable with all that filler 🙁 I get why actresses have to do it but it still makes me sad.
The filters make her look like a short Allison Janney.
OMG, I’m so happy lol. Teen Wolf was a guilty pleasure lol.
Came to support a Sarah Michelle Gellar post and I’ll definitely check out the show. But yeah her face looks crazy.
