The Sussexes dealt with two intruder alarms in May, the cops came

The Daily Mail and the Sun have some news about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s security situation in Montecito. I understand that they likely got this information through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to the Santa Barbara police department, but I also think it’s extremely weird to see the British tabloids reporting on sh-t they are conceivably doing to the Sussexes. As in, the tabloid photographers – or independent-contractor paparazzi – are the ones breaching the Sussexes’ security, then those same outlets report on the “security threats.” Of course, Harry and Meghan face bigger dangers than the media outlets which are actively trying to harm them – there are genuinely crazed lunatics and violent white supremacists out to get the Sussexes too. All in all, I’m not surprised that the Santa Barbara police have had to answer recent intruder alarms at Harry and Meghan’s home.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently dealt with two separate intruder alarms that were triggered at their California home less than two weeks apart this past May, marking the sixth time in the last 14 months their home’s security alarm has gone off.

Meghan and Harry were believed to be at the $14 million mansion in the town of Montecito with their children, two-year-old Archie and one-year-old Lilibet, when the most recent incidents occurred. Police in Santa Barbara, which handles the law in Montecito, were reportedly dispatched to the home on May 19 at 5:44 p.m. – notably the couple’s fourth wedding anniversary.

Just 12 days later, on May 31, just hours before Harry and Meghan were set to board a private jet from California to the UK for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, they responded to another intruder alert. The May intrusions were recorded as trespassing, property crimes and ‘suspicious circumstances’ by police. Santa Barbara authorities have had to deal with a half-dozen security calls to their home in the last 14 months, according to The Sun.

The news comes the same day the Duke of Sussex won a bid to bring a High Court claim against the UK government over his security arrangements while in his home country. Harry is taking legal action over a decision not to allow him to pay for police protection for himself and his family when visiting from north America.

[From The Daily Mail]

The Mail attaching the news about Montecito security to the British security case is interesting. It’s almost as if the papers are acknowledging that the Sussexes actually do need security wherever they go? That probably wasn’t the point of mentioning it though. The point was probably “Harry would be much safer if he just returned home and took up his royal duties as William’s fall guy.” As for the Sussexes’ security in Montecito… all I’m getting from the reporting is that Harry and Meghan are creating a paper trail. They’re getting the police involved, they’re creating multiple cases for trespassing, suspicious circumstances, etc. What happens if someone from one of the British tabloids is arrested on the Sussexes’ property?

It’s intrusive always to be prying into someone else’s security concerns. But that’s what the rags do: tap phones and voice mails, trespass, harass, cajole, trick, chase, lie, intrude, threaten, snoop, and publish. Wash, rinse, repeat.

  2. Surly Gale says:

I would be so happy if a British pap got caught trespassing and were charged to the fullest extent of the U.S. law. That scenario pleases me. Throw them in jail and throw away the key. Works for me!!

  3. Sofia says:

FOIA to find out… Sussex security breaches huh. That desperate to write something on H&M it seems.

  4. JRenee says:

I really hate that they are going through this..the hate level is maddening!

  5. Mary S says:

I hope the Sussex family takes whatever additional measures they need to take to ensure their safety. This story is frightening.

  6. Jan says:

    OT
Nacho and his wife put Harry’s UN speech on their Instagrams, so much for the BM bellyaching it.

  7. Zen says:

It’s amazing the British tabs still write about the Sussexes. They left royal life, moved away, to a foreign country 2 years ago yet the tabs constantly write about them. The books and tabs constantly talk about how minor they are, how unimportant, how they are not part of the Royal family and a “threat” to the royal family (Bower) yet cannot stop obsessively writing about them. The Tabs actions MAKE the Sussexes bigger stars then they were b4 they left. It doesn’t make any sense.

  8. Mimie says:

It’s pretty obvious who was trespassing considering the dates they happened.

    • C says:

Jabba the Hutt aka her father?

      • TigerMcQueen says:

Nah, I think it would be photographers hired by the tabloids. Meghan’s father is a coward. He talks s***, but he talks that way knowing he’ll never actually do any of things he says, not if it meant actually being face to face with H&M. Because if he faced them, he’d have to face the fact he’s nothing but a narcissistic liar. Narcs will never willingly expose themselves like that.

      • HeyJude says:

No Meghan’s father is far too lazy (and dim) for that. He’s never done an actual stunt towards H&M that required leaving his small town, and even then it was only the 1 failed suit fitting photos immediately exposed as frauds. Everything else is just him ranting like a mad man into the void from his home.

      • aquarius64 says:

Bad Dad did doorstep Oprah at her home after the interview. He had the Sun’s camera crew in tow, handing off a letter to her security, wanting to be interviewed. Just like Samantha did her drive by at KP that landed her on the fixated persons list. Ah, tradition.

    • Polo says:

No it’s paparazzi trying to get pictures for their anniversary and pics of them leaving for the jubby.

I wonder how often other prominent celebs get these type of alarms? We probably never hear about it cause US media isn’t as intrusive as BM unless there’s theft or something along those line.

      • lucy2 says:

I imagine it’s quite often, they probably have pretty sophisticated systems, and a lot of people coming and going at their homes, and they’re away a lot too.
My neighbors growing up used to set theirs off almost every day.

    • HeyJude says:

That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking. Those dates mean it wasn’t a random crazy person intruding. These were operations tied to the specific events. Obviously by the British press, or even worse with shady trail back to the dirty deeds/distraction departments of one of 2 non-Buckingham palaces. (I know which one I suspect. Someone who very publicly cried to every paper he could all about Harry coming over for the Jubbly during that time.)

  9. s808 says:

This is so creepy of them to be reporting. I hope one of them do get caught trespassing so can H&M have proof these bottom feeder british tabs are crossing the ocean to harass them.

  10. Jane says:

This is terrible. Someone (a member of the family, the security team, or an intruder) could actually die or be seriously injured. But presumably that would make the tabloids really happy because they’d get so much coverage out of it.

And this isn’t hyperbole or exaggeration. There are serious personal consequences for people who stumble into the orbit of the royal family and the tabloid media – a nurse at the hospital where George was born died by suicide after an Australian radio show tricked her into believing she was speaking to the queen and revealing personal information about Kate and George in a conversation that was recorded and shared with the entire world.

    • Mrs. CP says:

@Jane Oh my goodness me! That is just terrible! Haven’t heared about this at all! Poor woman! They should be ashamed of themselves, I hope there were legal consequences! 😢

      • HeyJude says:

There weren’t IIRC. But I believe the radio hosts all lost their jobs and are pariahs though.

What upsets me is no one has examined the royal families part in making the conditions on that ward and around the birth so restrictive this poor woman felt this distraught over a simple, understandable human mistake. William and Kate and their staff deserved some responsibility for how they ran that hospital so tyrannically. This was absolutely forbidden to even mention at the time, but given what we know about them now I have no doubt they were putting all sorts of pressure on the hospital ward staff and William, Mr. Incandescent, likely had a meltdown at them when the prank happened. Considering they’ve never really mentioned the poor woman or her widower and children again since their initial response I believe that doubly so. Worst of all is this was a woman of color. So this is a very grime incident in their pasts given all that has transpired about them in public since regarding race issues. It still leaves a uncomfortable feeling in me even now.

      • Feeshalori says:

That poor lady was Jacintha Saldanha, an Indian woman. And she left notes blaming the radio stunt for her death and another criticizing her employer for the handling of events following that prank call.

      • Mary says:

Yes @Feeshalori it was the hospital that fired the nurse; however, I am convinced that the royals and/or Middleton’s had a hand in that. I remember a photo was taken of Ma Middleton coming out of the hospital shortly after that episode, before we heard that the nurse was fired, and she looked furious. I would not at all be surprised if she demanded the termination of the nurse.

      • Feeshalori says:

Oh, definitely, the hospital felt the pressure from the obvious factions leaning on it to discipline the nurse but it backfired in a most tragic way. Jacintha pointed the finger at the administration because she got thrown to the wolves due to the rage and meltdowns, seeing her life and career spiraling down. They did not protect their employee and she called them out in her note. It was such a shameful and heinous thing to happen to her and to her poor family.

    • Bisynaptic says:

@Jane: what happened to the nurse sounds awful, but what she did—even if she’d been talking to the Queen—was a violation of patient privacy rights. In the US, HIPAA regulations cover disclosure of patient information. She would have had to pay a steep fine, on top of any other penalties. I’m sure there’s a similar system in the UK.

  11. Amy Bee says:

“The point was probably “Harry would be much safer if he just returned home and took up his royal duties as William’s fall guy.”

This is almost exactly what the Sun said in its headline. It’s clear that the security breaches are by paparazzi hired by the UK tabloids to get photos of Harry and Meghan leaving their house. Note the dates their anniversary and the day the press thought they would leave for the UK. I think what it really shows is that the protection they have in the US they don’t have in the UK.

  12. girl_ninja says:

If this truly someone from the british tabloids like folks here are guessing I hope they are caught. Then Megs and Harry can file suit and own them.

  13. LTanya Spearman says:

You are correct.. BM was caught up in spying on the Sussexes home in England
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/may/16/prince-harry-paid-damages-over-pictures-of-his-oxfordshire-home… At the same time NEO-Nazis threaten to murder the Sussexes:
    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/neo-nazi-trial-terror-prince-harry-michal-szewczuk-oskar-dunn-koczorowski-a8963396.html, https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-48672929
QEII and Prince Charles or big bro. William did nothing to secur their safety.. Oh yea, I forgot, help chase them out the country and strip them of their security and let their courtiers leak their location in Canada…. It was Taylor Perry who step in and gave them transportation and a safe haven in America.. Now they still trying invade in their private home life and create situations where Sussexes to fail or destroy their public/private life. So they can say “I told you so”…

    • one of the marys says:

Is it certain or understood that leaking their location in Canada came from within the firm? My God I only ever thought that was a rumour or a guess but that’s really really sad

  14. TheOriginalMia says:

Wonder how the tabs knew to file FOIAs for those dates. Hmm…probably their own people who got caught, and since they don’t know anything else about the Sussexes, they file this story.

    • kirk says:

Yeah, how did they know to file for those dates? Unless they file FOIAs for every day of the year. Sure hope the Daily Fail doesn’t get reduced search fees as a member of the ‘media’ seeing as how they don’t know how to spell “north America” [sic].

    • Joey 🦘 says:

A former tabloid person lives next door to mh WTH?

  15. aquarius64 says:

The cops need to look at Meghan’s lousy half brother. He was stalking the polo ground where Harry was competing. He uploaded an Instagram screed saying her ex-husband should have had her killed. He took it down but people took screen shots.

  16. QrsGeorge says:

What’s even creepier, is that this DailyFail article leads into another piece “exposing” the Sussex’s head of security, releasing his name and background info. They’re not only inciting hatred and putting H&M at risk daily for years now, but at this point they’re actively trying to personally target their staff dedicated to protecting them. How is that not a bigger story in itself?

    • Moxylady says:

I’m on Twitter. I see the hate they get. I’ve seen the non stop racist attacks on M and the double standards. But the doxxing of their security…. That’s literally insane. Something needs to be done.

  17. Scorpion says:

The security they use are all former Navy Seals and ex Mossad!

Good luck going up against such people!

    • Joey 🦘 says:

The former bodyguard of mj is quite a formidable person. His background should issue a warning to those watching MJ was a target also. FAFO!

  18. Keyse says:

Next time I hope the security use their Second Amendment rights!!

  19. Bex says:

Labeling them “intruder alarms” implies the person(s) gained access to their home, yet the way it’s written it seems people (likely paps) were trespassing on the grounds that weren’t supposed to be there.

    • Moxylady says:

Their land is theirs. Anyone gaining access to their land is intruding and doing so illegally and with full knowledge of where they are. Trespassing doesn’t quite cover the level of criminal intent.
