Shakira and Gerard Pique’s relationship never seemed that strong. She was the one invested in the relationship and invested in raising their two sons together. Pique expected her to change her life around to suit him. It sucked. Shakira finally had enough this year, and they officially split in June, although they were reportedly living apart for months beforehand. Pique cheated on Shakira a lot, and he is still dating one of his mistresses/jumpoffs (at least one). Shakira has also been dealing with Spanish tax authorities, and she will have to be in Spain for a tax evasion trial, although I’m almost certain that the Spanish government doesn’t have much of a case. All in all, it’s been a chaotic year for Shakira and I’ve found myself feeling genuinely sorry for her. At least one good thing has come out of this dreadful year: Shakira and Gerard finalized some kind of custodial agreement for their kids and now she’s committed to moving full-time to Miami.

Shakira and Gerard Piqué have reached a custody agreement regarding their two sons following the pair’s split in June.

“Our sole objective is to provide our children with the utmost security and protection and hope that they can continue with their lives in a safe and calm environment,” the former couple said in a statement Tuesday to PEOPLE. “We appreciate that their privacy will be respected.”

The singer, 45, and the retired soccer player, 35, share sons Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7.

A source tells PEOPLE that the two signed an agreement that is “best for their kids.”

“For eight years they have been living in Barcelona, but she and the kids are moving to Miami, where all her maternal family live,” the insider adds.

Yeah, I think “she and the kids are moving to Miami” tells you a great deal about the “agreement” they signed and how little Pique even cared. I predict that Shakira has close to full custody of the kids and they will live with her in Miami full-time, and maybe visit Pique once or twice a year, if that. He never seemed invested in her or the kids, honestly. I’m glad she’s free. Now the only thing left to do is deal with the tax trial, and Shakira has indicated that she has all of her ducks in a row on that too.
