While the Duchess of Sussex did two big magazine interviews in the late summer/early fall – with New York Magazine and Variety – we’ve yet to see a solo interview with Prince Harry. Is my memory correct, and the last time he was interviewed solo was back in May during the Invictus Games? I believe that’s right – the Hoda Kotb interview which caused Panic! At the Palace for weeks. Harry didn’t have to do any interviews to promote the Netflix series, but he will likely give some to promote his memoir Spare, which is out in January. Harry is good in interviews, and I have a feeling that he’ll limit his biggest promotional appearances to American media. Any magazine would love to have him on their cover, and all of the long-form TV interview shows would move mountains to get an exclusive. 60 Minutes? Another Oprah interview? Or maybe Harry will go back to Gayle King, whom he spoke to over the phone following the Oprah interview – people forget that, but he spoke to Gayle after the Oprah interview aired and after Charles called him to bitch him out. Anyway, the Mirror says he’s going back to Gayle:
Prince Harry plans to keep divulging royal secrets into the New Year, The Mirror can reveal. The Duke of Sussex, 38, is mulling over offers from major US TV networks to sit in front of the cameras and promote his memoir Spare in January. And an insider says CBS morning TV host – and close friend of Meghan ’s – Gayle King is in the “hot seat” for a major interview about his life.
A senior CBS network source confirmed that Harry has held talks to seal a primetime TV interview special. It could be as explosive as the Sussexes’ bombshell Oprah Winfrey chat.
Harry, through his US publishing arm Penguin Random House, has held talks for a second US TV interview special with US network CBS. King, 67, attended Meghan’s £160,000 baby shower in New York and backed the Sussexes’ decision to discuss their lives in Netflix series Harry & Meghan. The potential CBS special would tie in with the release of Harry’s memoir Spare next month. The California-based prince has been deluged with interview offers from global TV firms. But a source said the couple consider the veteran morning show anchor King “a huge supporter of Team Sussex”.
The source said: “ Prince Harry is not stopping talking when the Netflix series is released. In a month, he will be out on the promotional trail again. Unlike now, where Netflix has let the show speak for itself, Random House has him on board for select promotion for the book. They invested more than $30m (£24m) in it, so they want it to appeal to as many people as possible. Putting Harry on a primetime special with King would be a major coup and attract millions of eyeballs. One advantage is that she and Meghan are close. Harry would know he has support from her.”
The source said details of the deal are “very tricky” and CBS executives and King – Winfrey’s best pal – have been trying to keep it under wraps.
While the Mirror is full of sh-t about a lot of things, I believe this. It seems reasonable to me. It’s also worth noting that Harry is the tea-spiller, not Meghan. Harry will sit on a couch and talk his sh-t. Of course there are multiple news networks vying for his interview. I love how the Mirror’s source frames it too, like Harry is being forced into giving interviews and that’s the only way Spare will sell. Spare is literally already a bestseller in preorders. Anyway, I’ve said for months that the Windsors were worried about the wrong sh-t. They were crying about Harry’s memoir when really they should have been worried about the Netflix series and Harry’s promotional interviews. Also: if Gayle King interviews him, I hope Gayle asks him about the bullsh-t at QEII’s funeral, the calls from his father, the uniform debacle, the withdrawn invitation, etc. The Netflix series won’t cover that and Spare probably won’t either.

Wasn’t it the Mirror saying that Harry was going to go to the UK to promote the book? Yeah, I’ll believe this story when I see. I could see Harry doing a segment on CBS Sunday morning or 60 minutes but not another interview special as the Mirror puts it. Besides the Mirror is never right about anything.
Penguin might be worried that people will think most of the tea was in the series and will be less likely to buy the book… that they were scooped by Netflix.
I don’t think so … the book is already doing well in preorder, interest in the series is likely seen as more feeding interest for the book.
Plus, and this is just a guess, but given the way the Sussexes have differentiated content* over the last few years and who they’re working with, each piece will likely have some new ground covered.
*The RR and BM would have you think H&M have been only banging one gong over and over, but that’s not true
I think he will do one interview. Just one. and I think whichever network gets it, the other networks will be VERY salty lol. I can see 60 minutes or a segment on a Sunday morning show.
well I said just one, maybe two. I can see him doing one serious interview and one late night interview.
I definitely can see Harry doing 60 Minutes. I think it would be a good fit for him. As for the other networks being salty, I think that is the case already. The Oprah interview got huge ratings, I think it was the biggest non-sporting event televised on the networks that year. I think it explains the snarky tone from the other network morning shows, especially from ABC. The women on The View have been hateful towards Meghan lately, except for Sunny.
The BM always seem to be behind in what Harry and Meghan will do, and then when they do something they think that’s all they will do in the future because they are unimaginative. The Sussexes did a sit-down interview once, so that’s how they will always interact with the media. They did a docu-series, they wrote a book, the BM then writes how they will write this, do that with these people going forward. They are always wrong.
That’s because the BM always expects H&M to do like them, and hit fast, nasty, and prolific. Instead H&M choose to be carefully pointed in what information they choose to share. They don’t have to go into the nitty gritty of who-said-what to prove that the BRF and the BM go hand in hand.
I always thought Harry would hold back from going full nuclear in his first book, solely because of his love and respect for his grandmother (whether it was deserved is another matter). He has no such loyalty to his father and brother, nor the institution. I expect a prime time interview in January and another book later next year. The palace won’t know what hits them when Harry takes the gloves off.
🔥 🔥 🔥 💕 omg of course, great choice!! I’m unable to not fangirl. I will totally watch this if this occurs Omg. CBS mornings is my favorite tv show I’m Ridic I can’t even help myself and I adore Gayle. She’s host anchor journalist mom friend O editor extraordinaire!! I did not even think of this, that fave Prince 👑 would do this typa interview but it makes so much sense to me now. I do not see Gayle 🍭 dancing around the harder questions, she’s amazing. Lol 😂 Harry is the tea 🍵 🫖 spiller!! Some of us are, gotta love it 🤦♀️ 🥰 😂 💕 🖖
Well, he already spoke to Hoda so hopefully he doesn’t speak with the Today show again. I don’t know but they just seem snarky about Meghan and consistently have Royah and CT in as their royal correspondents🤑 although Al Roker spoke up for them once. Gayle would be a good choice. I know it’d prob never happen but I’d love to see Harry interviewed by Colbert or John Oliver. Or Trevor Noah. Harry prob wouldn’t bash the monarchy but he’d likely bash “the firm” and the heir/spare dynamic. Hmm, am just trying to think of interesting late night people to Interview Harry and Meghan. Amber Ruffin?
I’d love John Oliver (for his British background).
He is very anti-monarchy.. while I think they could have a great conversation and interview (I love his show) he is on a paid tv service so the audience would be limited to those that subscribe and choosing him would probably be more controversial. A Trevor Noah special prime time interview on ABC, NBC, or CBS would be a great choice imo
Yeah naw Today show
Gayle has been using Roya Nikkah as a ‘royal expert’ so I’m starting to side eye her.
Well Gayle used to have Tina Brown as her “expert” so….I don’t know, all of these so-called carnival of experts are bad.
I think he would do Gayle or honestly go on a podcast like Jon Stewart.
The Sussexes are predictably unpredictable but its fun to speculate. He might give the interview to one of the big 3 (networks) they haven’t previously dealt with so perhaps ABC? Then appear on the major late night programs for each network. It would be a good business/brand move.
Bc of the propensity for leaks and sabotage, and the power of the monarchy, I don’t know which UK outlets would the most confidential and trustworthy. Perhaps an interview with a news org in one of the countries in the Commonwealth.
LOL, “predictably unpredictable,” love it!
Yes! The uniform, the wreath laying drama …. We want to know about all the “just Harry” stuff as well as the H&M and “just Meghan” stuff as well.
If he goes on “60 Minutes,” who would do the interview? Anderson Cooper?
Bill Whitaker? (Aside from Whitaker, it’s a pretty white lineup … and an aging one, too.)
I’d love to see Harry and Anderson Cooper comparing the weight of family legacy.
