Susan Boyle sang her crowd-pleasing rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” on last night’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Her performance went off without a hitch and reminded us all of the haunting voice and moving personal story that captured the world this spring. Susan made her US TV debut on “America’s Got Talent” this September in a pre-taped performance of the Rolling Stone’s “Wild Horses.” Her performance on “Dancing with The Stars” marked her live debut on US TV. It’s been seven months since Susan’s breakthrough performance on “Britain’s Got Talent,” and she can still give me goosebumps and bring tears to my eyes.
Boyle recently opened up to The Scottish Daily Record (via MSNBC) about the way her life changed overnight this April. She was candid about what she went through, and gave a very honest account of the issues she faced after being thrust into the spotlight:
“You have to understand, my life ceased to be normal when ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ went live,” the talent-show finalist told the Scottish paper The Daily Record. “There were phone calls 24 hours a day. They kept me awake for three weeks until I changed my number. It was totally out of control, like a steamroller. It just got bigger and bigger and bigger until, eventually, it can flatten you.”
Boyle also discussed the final week of the show, when she lost to dance act Diversity, and ultimately was hospitalized for exhaustion.
“I hadn’t eaten properly for about a week, hadn’t slept properly,” she said. “The feeling was one of extreme exhaustion that manifested itself in firing off at everyone. I don’t remember much else. I just know someone sent for an ambulance and I went to (north London clinic) the Priory. I needed to sleep. I was too tired to even think straight.”
I have a lot of respect for this lady and wish her nothing but the best. It’s totally understandable that she got grumpy and upset due to lack of sleep and all the things she had to deal with. Susan is back now, though, and her album is out on November 24. She received a reported £8 million, or $13.2 million USD, for her recording contract with Simon Cowell. I hope the album is a huge success for her and that she’s able to achieve whatever balance she needs between her work and home life. Susan’s album is currently #1 on the Amazon Music charts.

I guess I am the only person who was not moved by Susan Boyle’s voice from the start, and I don’t think her story is that amazing. Go to Broadway and you hear voices 10 times better than hers and those people get very little recognition.
I hate to admit I watch DWTS (I am in a betting pool, lost already!) and last night I skipped 90% of the show because I could not bring myself to watch either her or Michael Buble. Both overrated singers, IMO.
@ Firestarter, you’re not alone on Susan Boyle or DWTS! I think her voice is okay but I like her story. I wish she’d been a little better looked out for when all the madness started.
As for DWTS, I record the results show so I can just watch the relevant bits. I listened to 1/2 of Ms Boyle, mainly to watch Tony and Chelsie dance. One of Buble’s big numbers as always been “Feeling Good” but after hearing George Michael cover it for “Eli Stone” it reminded me that Buble really really is over-rated. Was it just last night or is he really that cr*ppy all the time?
@FeeBee-I am the wrong one to ask. His music to me, is like a cross or garlic to a vampire! I cannot listen to it.
No disrespect to those that like him. My musical tastes are just different from the people my age.
doesn’t she know any other songs? this one is getting really stale.
I don’t thinks she can sing whatever she wants. DWTS asked, Susan delivered.
Look up on u-tube where Susan sings Memory from Cats – AMAZING. I don’t know why you guys are slamming her. PMS anybody?
@Kelly- PMS because some of us do not like her or her brand of singing? What a lame comment to make.
We don’t all have to think alike in this world you know.
Oh, you guys certainly have a right to your opinion, but she has an incredible voice and an ability to really emote through it. It is simply not true that there are dozens of others who can sing better than she can. Perhaps technically? Maybe. But it’s rare to find the whole package, like you have in Susan. And she just keeps getting better.
Love the new haircut and makeup. Team Susan!
I think she has a lovely voice and wish her well, but for cripe’s sake, didn’t she know what going on a television show would involve? That she wouldn’t be an anonymous church singer anymore?
No, I’m not PMS-ing. Like I said, I do like her voice (and I like Michael Buble), she just always comes across as someone who would really rather be left alone than deal with the stress of being a celebrity.
Maybe it’s just me.
I enjoy listening to Susan Boyle, but I
think DWTS orchestra really did not support her, they drowned her out. I’d
like to hear her sing, with out the music
covering up the artists.Mostly all one could hear was the music, with Susan Boyle barely heard.
Firestarter,
Hahahaha! I am in a Dancing with the Has- Beens pool as well, I went with Kelly O. I figured all the headbanging Ozzy/Sabbath fans would vote for her IN droves. Which ‘faux star’ did you hitch your wagon to?
How could she or anyone possibly have known what would happen to her as a result of going on a talent show in the UK? She went freakin’ VIRAL…NOT NORMAL!
Her story, her voice, her looks, her humility, all uplifting and inspiring, it says that dreams do come true, and don’t we all want to be reminded of that?
I will buy her music, she makes me feel something.
TaylorB-I hitched mine to Mark Decascos (sp?). My mom is with Kelly and we made my dad go with Donnie. There are about 42 ppl in our Has Beens pool and we went in at $5 ea. I had my money spent! Haha!
Better luck for me next time, although I am not sure if I can take another year of Bruno rolling his R’s like a psycho or Carrie Ann kissing everyone who sucks ass!
Susan Boyle Rocks, even if she does look like Sharon Osborne without all the plastic surgery.
I don’t like Boyle either…I have felt like I am the only one…but oh well. And no I don’t have PMS and yes I think she can emote but she needs help with technique. Then she would be able to sing through an orchestra.
i like susan and i whish her the best
I’ve heard many singers too, and I think Susan Boyle deserves her success.
Include me in the ‘goosebumps and teary-eyed’ crowd. I love Susan Boyle and I love that song.
Love her, love everything about her.
Sing on, Susan!
