Duchess Meghan got pap’d in Montecito after the Sussexes’ Spotify deal ended

The Duchess of Sussex was photographed on Friday in Montecito and the Daily Mail paid for the exclusive photos. They ran the pics as their top story throughout the day on Saturday, the same day as Trooping the Colour in the UK. As in, as the British press was being inundated with new photos of the all-white Buckingham Palace balcony, the Mail’s top story was Meghan “looking glum” in an ensemble by La Ligne. The jeans and the sweater are both from La Ligne. And I don’t think she looked glum as much as she just looked like a pretty woman going through her day.

Meanwhile, Page Six had particularly nasty coverage of the Sussexes’ Spotify deal coming to an end, with the added bonus (to Page Six) of Bill Simmons calling the Sussexes “grifters.” According to Page Six’s sources, the Sussexes are “not broke” but they will need to find new revenue streams in a hurry.

The Sussexes’ lifestyle: The collapse of the Spotify deal piles financial pressure on the Sussexes as exorbitant bills for their Montecito, Calif. lifestyle mount. Their sprawling Tuscan-style estate, bought for $14.7 million in June 2020, has a hefty mortgage. Annual property taxes alone cost $144,427 and there is staffing and maintenance on top. The bill for the couple’s private security detail is believed to be about $2 million a year, there are legal fees from Harry’s unending battles with the British press — and they have to keep their Archewell company afloat without Spotify’s cash. “They’re not broke,” stressed a source. “But they’re going to have to keep spending their money, instead of banking it.”

The Sussexes should have done more for their Spotify contract: Sources pointedly contrasted the Sussexes’ failed deal with the Obamas’ similar deal, which ended last year. “Although ‘Archetypes’ did well and got a couple of awards, when you go into a deal like this, to have just one series over that course of time is not great,” a source close to the Sussexes’ deal said. “To put that into context, the Obamas and their production company, Higher Ground, delivered multiple new series.”

Lazy & difficult? Another industry insider added, “Spotify wants to focus on people who drive strong audiences, like Alex Cooper, Dax Shepard and Emma Chamberlain. There are a lot of great creators who are very eager. Meghan and Harry are the outlier on all of this, I think they have come off as being lazy and difficult.”

Their Netflix deal: So far, the only other show the couple has coming out is “Heart of Invictus,” which was filmed while they were at the Invictus Games, for wounded service personnel, in The Hague last year. Page Six has been told it’s still slated to stream in August, a month before Harry and Markle fly to Germany for this year’s Invictus Games. It is unclear if this time they will be accompanied by documentary crews. A Netflix source said they remain “very valued” partners with the company, and the decision is “business as usual.”

Meghan’s plans: Despite the collapse of the Spotify deal, Markle — who sees herself as an entrepreneur — is making plans to launch her own business, akin to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop. She also would love to be the face of a luxury brand, something like Cartier, according to friends. “Meghan is super quiet at the moment,” said someone who knows her. “And she always does that just before she makes a big announcement.”

The Sussexes are turning down work: As for cash, the Sussexes are still working with Hollywood money man Adam Lilling and Markle’s longtime business manager Andrew Meyer. Their relationship dates back to when she starred in the TV show “Suits.” Harry is also earning from online therapy start-up Better Up, where he has the title of Chief Impact Officer. He’s not paid as an employee, Page Six is told, but is on a larger deal. The Sussexes have, however, turned down work, including being guest speakers to a group of CEOs at a closed-door “summit” in California.

[From Page Six]

“Piles financial pressure on the Sussexes as exorbitant bills for their Montecito, Calif. lifestyle mount” – they have a mortgage on their one home, they’re still making plenty of money, and they pay a lot for their private security because they need it. That’s it. They make it sound like the Sussexes have spent the past three years living way beyond their means. They have not. I’ve always been impressed with how the Sussexes have managed their money post-Sussexit. They made two big deals, with Netflix and Spotify, and Harry is clearly getting some kind of backend from the super-successful BetterUp, plus the money he’s made from his massively successful memoir. Meghan already had money from her years as a working actress, and Harry had the trust his mother left him. They made good business choices out of necessity in 2020, and Meghan signing on with WME shows that she’s ready to grow her business beyond the choices they made in 2020.

    Those are…not good pants.

Other than that, it sounds like the Sussexes work for a living. Imagine that! Some deals don’t pan out, others need restructuring, others are huge successes. I know it’s hard for the British and Murdoch media to fathom, but, yes, these two royals EARN their income. And are entitled to pick and choose projects they want to work on, as well as say no to those they don’t.

    • Barbara says:

Uh, what’s wrong with her jeans?

      • ThatsNotOkay says:

Hi, Barbara. What’s wrong is I don’t like them? They aren’t flattering? She has pants/jeans that fit better? These make her look boxy? They’re too low in the seat? They stretch in the wrong places? I’m not criticizing her I’m expressing an opinion about a pair of pants/jeans? And while we’re at it, I also don’t like the black top. 3/4 sleeves are a crap shoot. These are everyday clothes and that’s fine, I happen to think they could fit better.

      • Normades says:

This all just tells me that Megan is on the mid aughts skinny low ride pants, ballerina flats revival

      • Jais says:

Listen, like the jeans or not, but looking at the pics, those are not low rise, just saying.

    • Jais says:

I like the pants. As ever, I’m in envy of Meghan’s legs. The pants, the striped sweater, the flats. Casual cool imo.

    • Anna says:

Have we ever got an article about a guy and a first comment was about his clothes? Jeez… she looks perfectly fine, 5x better than the average women I see everyday. We need to really shift our thinking and move on from the constant judging of women’s appearance.

      • Kat says:

Yes! I wish I looked this good. The sweater is fantastic but would not suit me at all where it ends. She looks great!

      • ThatsNotOkay says:

Who cares? This is a gossip site that discusses fashion. It’s the least worst thing someone could comment on. And, yes, any time Piers Morgan is shown with his fly down, that’s the first comment.

      • BayTampaBay says:

I really do not care for the outfit either as Meghan has worn many casual outfits that look better on her. However, she looks fine.

      • Jais says:

I don’t mind peoples’ first thoughts being about clothes. Fashion is fun. However, while I did like what Meghan is wearing, I’m uncomfortable in the fact that these are paparazzi photos. I’d rather the pics not have been taken in the first place. And yet I still commented. That to me is more of a conflict than as to whether it’s okay to talk about clothes. Like don’t only talk about clothes, sure, but don’t shame people for talking about clothes either?

    • Debbie says:

This newspaper has manipulated the photographs. If you zoom in, you’ll find that the eyes in the first frame are crossed, and almost melting. Also, one of the legs looks like it belongs on another body. Even the nose in the third frame looks heavily photoshopped to the point where it looks like Karl Malden’s nose. I’ve seen them distort photos of Meghan before and this is one more example of that.

      • Sobiewski says:

I have noticed the British tabloids do that. It’s so weird. They are so desperate to make her look anything than gorgeous that they actually go to those lengths. smh…That is why I love it when the pap photos — like the ones of Meghan in her gold dress — have multiple pictures being taken by multiple paps. They can’t get away with messing with her pics if multiple individuals are taking the same pic.

      • Sugarhere says:

@Debbie: As you well said, the gutter press has distorted Meghan’s facial features to make her look dysmorphic, unappealing and unlikable.

And just today, I learned that master manipulator fucking Boris Johnson is joining the Detritus Mail team as a regular contributor. God help!

    • Ameerah M says:

They’re literally just skinny jeans. And they fit her perfectly. I wish I looked this good in skinny jeans.

      • MsIam says:

Yeah, “too low in the seat” is weird. The pants hit at her natural waist but whatever. She looks cute, I never look like that when I’m out shopping!

      • Booboochile says:

people are allowed to have an opinion..fer chrise sakes.

    • Penguin says:

I feel attacked as I literally wore this to work last week 😀 😀 😀

      • Mallory says:

As we all should, jeez. But I’m gonna wear my 3/4 sleeves out today & think “crapshoot, but I’m a risky b*!!!” (please don’t call the peanut gallery when I do, lol)

    • TeamMeg says:

No accounting for taste. I absolutely love the jeans and black top. Not a fan of the ballet flats—no support! White sneakers a better choice. The sweater is fine, but a black, red or yellow stripe with black jeans would be better than blue. That said, Meghan looks FINE! She looks like she is living her best life, and I hope the Tig reboot/Goop analog isn’t fake news, because that would be FIRE and a tremendous success, in my opinion. I know I’d be all over it, anyway!

    • C says:

The pants look fine to me. I dislike how quick people are to refer to her figure as “boxy” but that’s just me.

      • Minnieder says:

Same, that’s just the way her body is shaped. Not everyone is blessed with an hourglass figure (including me)!

    • Guest83 says:

To me the pants are pants; I own those pants, I like those pants (not those exact pants but you know what I mean).

But I would wear that sweater EVERY DAY if I owned it. But I love a good nautically themed fall outfit and that’s what this feels like to me.

Also, I love how they describe her as “sad” or whatever when she’s just … not smiling. That’s it.

    • Aurora says:

She looks fine, the outfit is… perhaps a bit dated to 2010-2013? She looks like any someone having a serious phone talk and minding her own business. I go crazy if I think a $20 note is missing from my purse. So I understand if any other responsible adult worries if her 20 mil deal falls through. Particularly, any responsible adult who’s providing for an expensive household , paying a massive security tab and trying to build up a high profile career based on media presence in times of social redefinition.

  2. equality says:

PH should have made enough just on the book to pay off the mortgage. (It’s still on the best seller list.) Why do people still assume they have a mortgage? There are others in the lawsuit with him helping to pay those bills, including Elton John. The Obamas had a podcast each with 8 put out in each one. Why do they try to make it sound like they were in several? Misinformation and exaggeration abound in the media.

    • Amy Bee says:

I suspect the money from the book paid off the mortgage for the house.

      • MsIam says:

They can deduct the interest on the mortgage off their taxes, plus since they use the home for business a portion of their home expenses are deductible too. So thanks Spotify for building that home studio for Meghan, lol. They don’t need to pay off the home at this point, better to conserve cash.

    • Kirsten says:

When you get a mortgage with a bank it’s typically public information, as are things like paying off the balance (because the deed transfers).

      • equality says:

Public info doesn’t mean that the media researches to see or tells the truth.

      • TheVolvesSeidr says:

Mortgages aren’t “public” information at least not in California. If you’re a real estate broker or realtor you can see that info, or if you work a title company. That’s not exactly public. You have to be able to log on to the MLS. Deed and mortgages are two different things. The deed it is the property title and that’s what gets recorded. I’ve never had a property deed with my mortgage balance info on it, only the applicable loan amount and terms. The balance of a mortgage is absolutely not public info. Until the loan is paid off and a grant deed from the lender shows a zero balance. (*former California escrow officer)

      • Kirsten says:

If you get a mortgage (either for an initial purchase or take out a subsequent mortgage on a property you already own), or use a trust deed, you now have a lien on your house, which is public information and held with the county clerk. The type of deed, date of purchase, amount of purchase, and to whom you paid the money are also public record. You can see the amount borrowed, and then also the deed transfer when the balance is paid in full.

      • Kkat says:

Not in California. We refinanced, its not public
like TheVolvesSeidr says, you have to have a specific job to be able to see that type of info. it’s not for the general public

    • Guest83 says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t PH also have a JOB? Like an actual job? With what I assume is a salary?

I get that a certain type of British (and American) rich person are confused by that but…he has a job. They have income. With or without Spotify.

Now do I think he by definition makes Montecito money? No…not necessarily. But, between them, they absolutely could. And that drives the Windsor’s up their tasteless walls.

  3. ML says:

Meghan not overjoyed to be photographed by the paparazzi after her experience in NYC?! You don’t say!

  4. Dee(2) says:

She considers herself some sort of entrepreneur? While it’s not justified given his output I get why they minimize Harry, it’s the narrative they’ve had for him for decades but why are they trying to pretend Meghan is anything but a hard worker? So she’s a college graduate who found success in a super competitive field, and all of sudden because of two years in the OG grifter clan she’s become super lazy and incompetent? I’ve never been worried about them saving money or finding revenue streams, it’s clear they both have good heads on their shoulders and aren’t lazy, and it’s clear to the press too or they wouldn’t be giving their all to try and poison the well for them.

  5. TOM says:

She’s beautiful, as always. Her outfit is more February-in-Montecito than June-in-Montecito.

    • Fuzzy Crocodile says:

I was going to ask why she’s wearing a sweater since it’s freaking 90 degrees here in the southern US.

But I think she looks very put together.

      • Eurydice says:

The temps have been in the low 60’s in Montecito.

      • Amy Bee says:

Montecito is near the sea. It’s going to be colder than the south.

      • LOLikes says:

I live in Oregon all this weekend and right now I’m under 2 blankets with the heat on. Talked with a relative in New Jersey and it was hot there. And last night in Oregon it rained like cats and dogs. From the pictures of Meghan it looks like it was windy and I see where she took her sweater off. So I think she was layering which is what a lot of people out west do. And as usual she’s looking good.

      • Mle428 says:

It has been cold here in coastal California. June Gloom. It’s awful this year.

      • Bean says:

I live in Berkeley and we have broken 80 I think once (maybe twice) this whole year. My tomatoes are NOT happy!
Also – Montecito is on the coast, it’s always much colder there than inland.

      • Christine says:

I live in LA, and it’s 65 at noon.

      • Sobiewski says:

Wowzers didn’t know so many Californians were on here but yes, agree with all of the others. It has been cooler than normal at this time of the year. It is light sweater, long tee shirt weather here in Cali. And you better believe everyone is grumbling complaining about it. I wear my light sweater out too here and there. Megs is dressing appropriately for the odd Cali weather.

      • Lux says:

It’s been 60s/low 70s in the OC too. I keep having to delay swim play dates. I wear long sleeved tops but force myself to wear them with shorts because it’s SUMMER, darn it!

    • SpankyB says:

California has been unseasonably cool this summer. It’s been nice. I live in N. Calif near the ocean and I woke up to an early November day this morning. I’m all bundled up.

    • Jaded says:

I’ve been in Montecito in August and it was cold and foggy.

    • clarabelle says:

I currently live in Oregon, but have lived half of my life in S. Cal. I’m old and in my many years, I know that the weather is not firmly summer-like on the whole West Coast until the 5th of July! It’s at least a wild card and could go either way until then.

    • C says:

Personally I think these are older pics.

    • remy says:

I live in coastal socal and it’s been nothing but may grey and june gloom. I was in a hoodie yesterday.

    • Alarmjaguar says:

Summer heat inland often pulls the fog in on the coast in N. California. As someone said above, June Gloom. She looks cozy.

  6. Rapunzel says:

Bill Simmons calling them “fu*king grifters” says to me that he’s bitter the Sussexes are moving to greener pastures thanks to WME. And he knows Spotify fu*ked up.

Also, Simmons said he had an unflattering story about helping Harry with something related to their deals. I put this together with the “lazy and difficult” smear and I conclude that Simmons and Spotify expected different material from H&M than they got. I strongly suspect the low output was due to the Sussexes refusing to go with certain garbage ideas Simmons suggested. They were probably asked to do tacky, cheesy, cheap or salacious crap, and refused.

    That’s my 2 cents.

    • equality says:

Yeah. I’d say they wanted the dirt on the RF and now are bitter that wasn’t what they got.

    • Shawna says:

Ding ding ding! I could definitely understand feeling salty after the Netflix documentary went over so well, but they should’ve written their contract in such a way to get what they want if they would get this angry about them not getting particular content.

      • Rapunzel says:

That is probably the crux of the bitterness: in their desperation to snatch up Harry and Meghan, they gave them a contract that was probably looser in terms (and higher in pay for those looser terms) than they really should have given them. And now Simmons is mad they profited off this largess.

      • Christine says:

I don’t understand this, from Spotify’s perspective. Every single episode of her podcast got worldwide press, parsing every word. You can’t buy the kind of attention Meghan and Harry have, and each episode of Archetypes was really well done.

*shrugs* Onward and upward, for those two. This guy is going to give himself a stroke with all of his rage.

    • Steph says:

He’s definitely bitter but I’m not sure it’s bc the Sussexes left. This guy doesn’t work for Spotify anymore. I don’t see why he’d care about that part. It doesn’t do anything for his bottom line. I think he’s trying to be salacious to cash in on new opportunities.

      • Rapunzel says:

Um.. Bill Simmons still works for Spotify.

      • Steph says:

@rapunzel yeah, I just came here to correct myself. He does still work there. I thought he was fired. So yeah, he’s definitely bitter. I think he’s also probably bros with Rogan and I know the Sussexes took issue with staying in the same platform as him.

      • Jaded says:

@Steph — I hope he does get fired. I’d never heard of him (not a sports fan) so I did a deep dive into his past shenanigans and he really is a truly awful person, like Joe Rogan on steroids. M&H are well shot of him.

    • Nerd says:

That is exactly my thought. Harry and Meghan’s work before meeting and since has always been about helping, uplifting and empowering others. So anything they do with a podcast would be with similar intentions. A man who doesn’t know them and doesn’t seem to have the same morals or intent as them wouldn’t be the ideal person to suggest possible podcast ideas for someone like Harry or Meghan.

  7. Maxine Branch says:

Interestingly enough no one knows how much or how little the Sussexes have access to. Pretty sure they are continuing to live an authentic life they can afford. What gets those gutter gossipers is at this point in this couples lives they can only speculate. But what is sinister is the speculation and the wish for ill will on this couple. This is exactly why the UK tabloids are not taken as serious journalism. This country’s economic system is collapsing and the gutter tabloids are using their print currency to speculate on a couple in another country.

    • equality says:

If they were seriously hurting, they could pick up all kinds of commercials or endorsement deals. Even Zara and Peter, royals most don’t have a clue about, manage to do that.

    • anotherlily says:

Meghan has a source of income from repeats of Suits. She gets repeat fees for every episode she appeared in. Amazon and Netflix are streaming the whole series.
      Her earning potential is high.

      • Deering24 says:

And it’s hard to believe H&M aren’t very well-invested to begin with. Shouldn’t they (salaries, contract money, royalties, and other payments to them aside) be living off the interest of their investments by now? And their tax write-offs are probably helpful as well.

  8. She is just out doing her thing. She looks good not glum. Tabloids are desperate. That is all.

    • Jais says:

Yes, she does not glum. She looks like someone go about her day.

    • Zazzoo says:

Right? Woman running errands has normal expression. Film at eleven.

    • Chaine says:

She does not look that happy but I assume it’s because she is just trying to live her life and paparazzi are there harassing her.

      • zazzoo says:

IDK. Paps could definitely be part of her expression, but I pay no attention to my facial expression when I’m out running errands. Sometimes I’m just lost in thought. Either way, whatever’s happening is probably momentary, not the sign of existential angst the tabs are always trying to pin on her.

    • Christine says:

Agreed. We all know what the headlines would be if she had been smiling. Pick a lane, you morons.

  9. Steph says:

Why are they so sure she is making a life style brand? And something like Goop? I just don’t see it. I can see her consistently partnering with companies who she thinks brings value to the world but not selling Jade vagina eggs.

    • SarahCS says:

Wishful thinking with a side of smearing.

    • Debbie says:

For the same reason they thought she was launching beauty or skincare line like Cindy Crawford. As SarahCS said, it’s partly wishful thinking and partly “Oh, God, get me more Meghan content!” In other words, partly a prayer.

  10. Steph says:

The Sussexes released an official statement last year about “on going discussions” about staying with Spotify bc of Joe Rogan. I think that’s were the “difficult” comes in.

    • Rapunzel says:

      This is an excellent possibility.

    • Dee(2) says:

And given the dumpster fire with Joe Rogan and Professor Hoetz this weekend they were right to do so. That and Simmons’ rant does not put them in a great light as a company anyone with standards and a set brand would want to be associated with.

    • BothSidesNown says:

      @ Steph, an excellent possibility!!

    • Christine says:

      This makes so much sense.

  11. Cassie says:

Think Meg is very annoyed to have sneaky photos taken of her and you can’t blame her .
God I hate the British media , they should all be in prison .

  12. MsIam says:

Funny how they always forget about Harry’s book deal or the money Meghan made from her book. Plus what is this acting like Spotify or even Netflix are the only games in town? So bitter Page Six, so bitter!

    • Steph says:

It was also just announced that Amazon is the official ticket sponsor for Invictus 2023. So there are definitely new homes for them.

  13. Shawna says:

They’ millionaires from Spare profits alone. So spare us your concern trolling fantasies, DM.

    • Mary Pester says:

@Shawna,I had to laugh when I saw the DF article. Let’s take a look at the Lack of substance and morals of this paper. We have just got rid of a prime minister, who lied to the Queen, lied to the public, lied to push brexit through and lied to his first wife and his mistresses. Now the Daily Fail has given this man a job (remember he has been sacked twice previously for printing lies) and are paying him a 7 figure sum!, yeah we should really care about anything this rag prints

      • anotherlily says:

Boris Johnson also lied to Parliament and that is a huge political crime. It is worse than lying to the Queen. This is why there has been a parliamentary investigation and why the outcome is so serious.

Lying in Parliament undermines the whole parliamentary system and undermines democracy. Parliament has the ultimate power. In practical terms it is above the monarchy. (This was clearly established in the ‘Glorious Revolution of 1688 when Parliament deposed King James II, removed his young son from the succession and invited his daughter Mary to take the throne and rule jointly with her husband Prince William of Orange who was James’s nephew. )

It is forbidden to lie in parliamentary debates or to call any member a liar. Anyone using the term against another member would be ordered out of the chamber by the Speaker. Deliberately misleading members during debate leads to an automatic 90 day suspension and could end a politician’s career. Members of the House of Commons call each other ‘Honourable Member’ when engaged in debates which implies acceptance of the person’s honesty.

The report of the investigation was given to Boris before it was made public. He resigned immediately as a member of Parliament to avoid being officially suspended for 90 days. The report has been almost unanimously accepted by MPs after the formal debate. He is finished as a politician.

  14. Hannah says:

I love this look. But I always loved Meghan’s pre *working royal* looks. The lady loves beautiful clothes and shoes. And she’s got great style. I didn’t like her working senior royal style as I never felt it was a true reflection of her personality. She was literally and figuratively putting on her suit of armour. I am quietly praying for that Dior deal cause she will be mucking afazing

  15. s808 says:

Being concerned about a rich couple’s finances is just something I won’t ever do, sorry. Neither seem like idiots and I’m sure Meghan especially would not make dumb financial decisions. They’re probably fine.

  16. Amy Bee says:

Kaiser is absolutely right. Meghan and Archewell signing with WME is a signal that they have a lot plans coming down the pike. I think Harry and Meghan are in a good place and made the right decision to leave Spotify.

    • BothSidesNown says:

@ Amy Bee, and to add Meghan signing with WME, why would they sign with her if they didn’t think that they could promote her or her projects?? WME is a masterclass of promotion which signals that it’s a win-win for WME. Meghan will be an exceptional client for them and they will promote and nurture her incentives.

As for Page 6, who is also in bed with the DF, its simply trying to keep their ludicrous narrative of H&M failing for the last 3+ years. It’s not happening and never will but it won’t stop them from pushing it.

  17. Mads says:

Good grief, this article could be a straight copy and paste from the Daily Fail. As to H&M’s financial situation, they are deliberately underestimating their net worth to promote a narrative that H&M cannot survive outside the Institution. I would estimate their joint net worth around $45 million at the very least, and that’s before whatever they earned from the Netflix, Spotify and the book deals; Harry is well into $10 million+ earnings from “Spare” (above his initial advance) and this alone will cover all his legal fees should he lose every single case, which is unlikely. New deals with full ownership rights are being negotiated as anti-Sussex media and commentators speculate and generate hate clicks. I, for one, will delight in the mass hysteria once these very lucrative contracts are announced 🙂

    • SarahCS says:

And I doubt their $$$ are sitting in a no-interest account. Of course they are investing. Money makes more money. We can debate the rights and wrongs of our capitalist system but I do not see them hurting for cash.

  18. Snuffles says:

Meghan is probably raking in a couple of millions a year from her Suits residuals. Still profiting from her Benches book. Harry is making millions from his book, not to mention the huge advance he got. He’s probably got stock options in Better Up which is growing like crazy. They probably got a couple of million from Spotify even if it did end early. They still have their Netflix money. Harry has his Diana inheritance which he probably never touched and most likely doubled or tripled in value since he inherited it in 1997. Harry isn’t the only one funding these lawsuits. Plus he’s won and received substantial damages from previous ones. As did Meghan. These cases always require the loser to pay the winners legal fees. So they’re not losing money there.

And that’s what we know about. Lord knows what kind of investment portfolio they have.

    • Normades says:

Yup, they have access to the best financial advice available and have most certainly invested wisely. These types of articles are so ridiculous. Like they’re gonna loose their shirts because of one podcast deal.

    • yellowy says:

She wouldn’t be making *that* much from Suits. It’s not Friends or Seinfeld. At best it would be in the low 6 figures.

      • Nutella toast says:

If she had good representation at that time, I disagree. It’s on Prime, Peacock, and Netflix as I type – if she got good residual rights (and it’s been running forever on the original network), she could be making quite a bit. I worked at an agency in LA.

      • Debbie Dunk says:

Suits was second only to Game of Thrones in viewer numbers. Residuals are probably hefty.

  19. Amee says:

The DM is taking cues on how to treat former cult members from Scientology. The more I see of the Royal Fam, the more I am convinced it’s just a cult. H+M refused to be their Shiny Happy people.

  20. Tina says:

I love how they are ignoring how much money Harry has made from Spare alone. It’s still in the top 10 on the NYTimes best seller list. The publisher has never announced global sales numbers but I’m sure it is massive.

    • VoominVava says:

I agree! Also, they purchased their house for a deal (as far as I remember) and it has been appreciating in value from that moment on. Real estate prices are crazy today. They also didn’t do the typical Hollywood thing and tear it apart and renovate it all to make it their own. They seemed to pretty much move in and start living their independent life. She does have expensive taste in clothing but I’m betting a lot of her clothes are sent to her in the hopes she’ll wear it and be photographed.
ETA: and how is any of that anyone’s business? Ugh the media makes so much money on their names though, this will never end.

  21. Becks1 says:

People are so worried about their money, why? Is it part of the palace narrative, to convince the public that they are poor? Is it wishful thinking from those who want to see them fail? But even people who are “supporters” are worried about their mortgage and how “lavish” their lifestyle is (which I dont think it is based on what we see, but its definitely a “concern” some have…..)

They’re doing fine. Their Spotify deal didnt work out for various reasons that we don’t fully know (although it seems more like a Spotify problem to me than a H&M problem) and so they’re moving on. It’s business. They’ll be fine.

    • Dee(2) says:

Well the BM and BRF want to see them fail to prove that they can’t survive without them. Also I’m sure the court cases don’t help, so it’s more trying to speak into existence what they want in those instances I think. Some “fans” are addicted to drama, and some act like Meghan and and Harry are there only for their consumption regardless of what they want. I’ve never heard anyone say oh no one’s going to watch that new movie you’re in Christian Bale cuz you’re not out here putting out Instagram reels everyday. Sade and Maxwell released albums once a decade and still sell out their tours. If you support someone it’s for their output or their views aligning with your own shouldn’t matter how often they express them. If you’re a fan you enjoy it when they’re out and about and you do other things when they aren’t, if you need them to be out and about doing stuff 200 days out of the 365 of the year that’s more of you than them thing. These people try to couch these concerns like they’re worried about Megan and Harry’s financial capabilities but honestly why do you care? You worry about how you’ll be able to pay your bills long-term and they’ll do the same.

    • MsIam says:

The only ones “worried” are those fckg concern trolls. It’s crazy, one minute Harry and Meghan are so greedy for wanting to make money, the next it’s “Oh no, they’re broke!”. For rich people, their life style is pretty modest. They are not buying multiple homes, yachts, cars, airplanes, etc. Meghan doesn’t have a closet full of Birkins. From the behind the scenes pictures in the documentary their life seems full of hiking and going to the beach with the occasional nice dinner out.

    • Bean says:

They’re smart enough not to overextend themselves and to not have all their eggs in one basket. They’re fine.

  22. Sunday says:

They delibrately released these photos this weekend to make it look like Meghan was on a pap stroll for attention during Trooping the Color. I’d bet a Spotify deal that these have been held for weeks (if not months).

As for Bill Simmons, maybe if he spent less time ranting about the Sussexes and more time reeling in his anti-vax imbeciles Spotify wouldn’t be once again in the hot seat for giving a platform to the most harmful anti-intellectual moron on the planet. I can’t imagine why Meghan and Harry went in look of greener pastures!

  23. Ameerah M says:

What I hate is that these photos were taken days before they posted. And they held off on posting them so they could create a narrative around her “looking glum”.

  24. Bex says:

The Obamas put out two one-season (8 episodes each) podcasts, during the three years they were contracted exclusively with Spotify, Meghan’s Archetypes was 12 episodes (3 fewer than what the Obama’s produced, if we include H&M’s Christmas special) so I’m confused how Meghan is viewed as not doing enough with her platform.

As well, it’s clear that Bill didn’t like whatever Harry pitched and wanted him to do something else (likely more about Harry personally than to do with the work Harry does with his patronage). It’s the same creative differences with the Obamas, which is why they ended the exclusive contract last year.

  25. Jaded says:

Is she supposed to go about her daily stuff with a huge grin on her face? She appears to simply be on her phone having a conversation, maybe business related. When I’m out and about I have the exact same look on my face. I’m not dressed as well as Meghan but you’d never look at me and think “jeez she looks glum”.

  26. diANNa says:

Aren’t Harry and Meghan partnered with an ethical investment firm? And M also has invested in Clevr Blends, which just launched a line of teas as well. They have multiple revenue streams. This article is just another hit job based on their hopeful fantasy of seeing the Sussexes fail.

  27. tamsin says:

I’m getting the picture that there were creative differences that perhaps accounts for the relatively low output. Perhaps Spotify expected them both to just be chatting and gossiping everyday which is not the kind of podcast turned out to be. Archetypes probably took a lot of time and resources to produce. It just wasn’t a celebrity and a mike. Also, I think the culture of Spotify seems to be at odds with what the Sussexes stand for. If Josh Rogan and his anti-science stance and the Simmons guy are their faces, then it seems pretty clear the Sussexes are not in the right organization to further their ideas and their work. I just read a retweet from someone who worked with them that said Harry and Meghan had ideas that they could not fulfill. I’m inferring that they were not able to be realized at Spotify because they did not get the resources or the green light. But the situation has certainly given the tabs a story and a profitable story line.

    • Kelley says:

It’s exactly the reason why the obamas left. Imagine having to work with people like this guy. They truly made the right decision even if in the short term they are getting trolled for it. It seems like they wanted royal stories and the Sussexes were like nah I’m good.
I’m sure they can make their own podcasts if they wanted to or find a platform that’s more than willing to sign them if that’s the direction they want to continue.
Though I still feel like Meghan will end up doing something with UN or along those lines. Harry maybe doing travel and military stuff.
They aren’t broke, they have billionaire friends, they haven’t even pursed commercial deals, shoot Meghan hasn’t even written her book. One thing they will never have to worry about is money.
They are being super selective about what they give their time to which makes sense considering they have toddlers.
Everyone else is just being impatient and projecting on them.

  28. L4Frimaire says:

They published those photos to try to say she was competing with trooping, although she was fast asleep in California when they came out and trooping was happening. She looks cute, her face is neutral, items she’s wearing have sold out. I don’t know why some people are getting worked up over black skinny jeans, one of the most basic items of clothing one can wear. As for the rest, everything is speculation and despite their wealth, and a great wardrobe, they don’t come across as extravagant people. They have expenses but seem to live within their means, which may be quite lucrative, but it’s their threshold.

  29. Candy says:

What does DM mean by the makeup free headline? She is polished, and clearly just got a blow out. She is absolutely wearing makeup. Honestly is if this were me, I would call this full glam!

  30. JJ says:

They have multiple streams of income so the fever dream of Harry coming home (not Meghan because they have made it abundantly clear they don’t want her back) poor, broken and ready to do the Firm’s bidding because he can’t make it outside the UK is just nuts.

  31. QuiteContrary says:

She looks great. And probably distracted by the to-do list that a working mom of two has.
It must be exhausting for the concern trolls to juggle their worries over the Sussexes’ financial situation with their own financial anxieties. I’d rather trust that the Northwestern graduate and military veteran have everything under control.

  32. MsDoe says:

It really hit me reading this what a shit parent Charles is; yes, we’ve always known this but… Harry and Meghan are wealthy compared to most, but they have this enormous security tab through no fault of their own; through an accident of Harry’s birth. Harry’s father has a net worth of some $2.3 BILLION, and he’s such a shit parent that he threw them and his grandchildren to the wolves, pulling their security.

Says it all about Charles as a human being and as a parent.

I find Meghan’s outfit to be classically elegant — very French. Only wish I looked as good.

  33. Well Wishers says:

Their behaviour were untoward and rude towards the Duchess.
