Sarah Jessica Parker is promoting the second season of And Just Like That, the first three episodes of which are out now. Like the previous season, I’ve heard only negative buzz and do not know one person who is watching it. They’ll surely get some people to tune in for Kim Cattrall’s cameo, orchestrated on her own terms, but I digress.
SJP was on The Howard Stern show and was asked about how she met her husband of 25 years, Matthew Broderick. They were both seeing other people when they met in 1991 and they broke up with their partners for each other. It’s unclear if there was cheating involved. I went into this feeling skeptical, because after the way SJP treated Kim Cattrall I think she’s a trash person. If you told me she has an acrimonious marriage I would believe you. However I watched the video clip and you can tell that SJP admires and appreciates Matthew and that their relationship is solid. Outlets are running with the headline that they’ve never spent a night apart, which she does say, but then she clarifies that they’ve had to do that for work and family illness, so it’s not quite accurate. During an appearance on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show, the 58-year-old Sex and the City alum got candid about how she met her husband Matthew Broderick and why she hasn’t been able to be apart from him ever since.
“We were both seeing other people, so it was illegal, and we stayed away from one another,” she said, explaining the circumstances in which they had met. “We understood that we had to do right by the other people and break up officially.”
Parker recalled, “We had our first official date on March 8 of 1992 and we’ve been together ever since.”
The actress added that the couple have been inseparable and have “never spent a night apart since then, with the exception of work on location, or his mother was ill for a bit so he went to take care of her, but from that first night, we’ve never been apart.”
Parker spouted off the qualities that attracted her most to Broderick, 61, as well as his unique quirks like riding messenger bikes with no brakes and holding onto buses.
“I liked his person very much. He’s so smart, he’s so funny, I like this choice of friends, the way he was living in New York, what was important to him, how he kind of traveled around the city,” she gushed. “Really smart and really talented and he was, I thought, so beautiful and handsome and charming.”
“I love being home in New York,” Parker declared. “I wanted to build a life here and he was born and raised in the West Village, literally — he’s never lived north of 11th Street.”
Alright, so SJP and Matthew Broderick have a great marriage, they both love New York City, and it sounds like they have a happy home life. Kaiser covered an interview they did last year with THR together, about a Broadway play they were working on, and came away with the same impression. Color me surprised, but it’s good for them and for their kids. They have son James, 20 (!), and twins Marion and Tabitha, now 13. Those kids grew up so fast.

SJP, talented. But her mean girl behavior to Kim C put me off her completely.
Wasn’t he with Jennifer Grey at the time? I can’t remember who she dated besides Robert Downey Jr.

As to being a happily married yet nasty person, sometimes it’s the vinegar that makes a marriage run smoothly.
But there was a wwhhhhhoooole whisper of gossip 15 years ago about him cheating on her, I think, during the run of The Producers. But she was away then, so I guess this still tracks? Lol
One of my mom friend husband was seeing many different women that; she is aware of about up until they got married. Because of that if it wasn’t work he wasn’t allowed to go anywhere without her or be at home alone for long periods with out her.
There were always, I won’t say gossip (it was never published and I think I once saw it alluded in blind gossip somewhere, years ago), but whispers (from comments, for example), that she is the one emotionally invested in that marriage and she is the one who cares, while he is, or at least seems, over it.
And I kinda believe that. She’s always gushing about him, and he’s always silent about her, and the old “if they’re selling it so loud, it’sa fraud” is usually true, in my experience.
The rumors I recall were around them not living together. I think they at least went through a period of time where they were totally annoyed with one another. My recollection is there was a new home purchased in Brooklyn and they kept the old NYC home?
Wasn’t there a whole thing with him and their nanny? And then the twins were kind of a bandaid? Am I crazy and making this up in my head?
Yeah there was stories of his affair with a 25 year old (I think she was a nanny?) He was papped with her and it made some of the magazines at the time, about 2008 or 2009 (why do I remember this nonsense)

‘I’m happy to be with him regardless but I’m sure there are many times he wishes he wasn’t with me.’
Wow that’s a big admission publicly IMO and is consistent with the vibe that she’s more committed than he is to her at least maybe not the family and kids as a whole but their romantic relationship anyway
I did a Google check and In 2006 in the midst of stories of Mathew cheating SJP made this comment.
( Parker says, “I feel bad that he’s not on the market… I feel like I’m holding him back in certain ways. I love him so much.”
“He’s just getting to his prime and I’m holding him back…
“Every now and then I see him with a woman and she’s really smart and beautiful and I’m like, ‘God, they have great chemistry. They’d be great together.’” )
It seems like she knew about is cheating and blamed herself for it.

With the manner in which SJP is overtly gushing about him is teetering on trying to sell us that they are simply the perfect couple. I don’t buy it but I guess if it works for them, that’s fine. But I will never be interested in any of her projects with how she treated KC.
I admit to having weird vibes about their marriage, but it’s lasted long enough for me to learn that another’s marriage is a black box. If it works for them, it works, period.
You are so right about the black box. Even the most sane, reasonable and kind people can become something else entirely in a marriage and even the biggest cranks and jerks can make lovely spouses. Marriage is so complex which is why I’m always so hesitant to be “team” anyone in these divorce stories except when there is abuse. Then I’m team “lock him up”!
Classic gossip rumors were that they have an open marriage, but who knows. If it works for them, that’s great IMO.
But whatever floats your boat. But like she shared, they have spent some nights apart. She is so dramatic.
I used to really like SJP a lot. Watching her and Helen Hunt in Girls Just Wanna Have Fun , I felt like I grew up with her with her. So seeing her have the success she had with Sex In The City was lovely. It’s such a disappointment to know how she allowed jealousy of Kim to creep in. She now seems like a brat who whined and waited her way into all that she has, including her marriage. Kind of like Kate Middleton. And isn’t Mathew a cheater or is that just a rumor?
Sorry for my rant…anyway. Her children are beautiful and it’s lovely that she got the life she wanted.
Yeah – those rumblings about him go way back to his early career. She’s no saint either. I recall all the gossip about her stalking John F Kennedy Jr before he met his wife – there was one story she turned up at an airport to meet him off a flight wearing nothing but a fur coat.
I wrote to SATC (Michael Patrick king) with an idea for our bodyperk nipple enhancers and the show. Long story short we are only outside of the writers room idea they used on show. Cindy chupack told us in 2004 that the writers wore them out, had fun & wrote story line (season 4, episode 6). We went to silver cup studio to watch filming. and SJP gave a toast to the nipple chicks on set. She was just so lovely to us.
I know there were rumblings years back. I hope they’re on better footing now.

Well they must’ve spent some nights/times/whatever apart when he was apparently cheating on her! I remember from years ago it was some stereotypical younger woman – there was a headline on a tabloid at the checkout line that the girlfriend called him “mattycakes” 🤮 (don’t even ask me why this stuck in my head all these years later!) I seem to recall they issued a statement or something about “working on their marriage” and some people were drawing parallels with the storyline of one of the characters on SATC having a midlife crisis affair…
Yeah, I remember all the rumours too – all about Matthew being indifferent to her at best, stepping out, etc.
Just remember that this is the same SJP who publicly and vocally pretended she and Kim Cattrall were cool until Kim read her for trash. Massive boulders of salt.
If they’re really happy, cool. But I wouldn’t take it at face value.

Methinks they have an open marriage like most showbiz couples. Also heaps of commenters on CB blog posts on them going way from saying they have firsthand knowledge of him picking up both men and women – or trying to.
