The casts of Barbenheimer arrived in London mid-week, and on Wednesday, Barbie and Oppenheimer had dueling events – one premiere, one photocall, and a fan event. Then the SAG-AFTRA union left its negotiations with the studios and said that on Thursday, the actors would go on strike. A strike means that SAG members are not even allowed to do promotional junkets or attend premieres or Comic Con or anything like that. But… the timing was key. First a vote had to be held in LA, then the strike was called mid-morning on the west coast. So it ended up working out that the cast of Oppenheimer actually did some interviews and walked the premiere carpet in London, then halfway through the premiere, the cast went on strike.
So, here are some fashion notes from the last promotional event for Oppenheimer! Emily Blunt wore McQueen, an improvement over that ghastly mint Balmain in Paris. I don’t know if she was trying to “pout” as she posed or if that’s just what her face does now. Meanwhile, Florence Pugh wore a stunning Valentino gown with a full skirt. Her stylist matched the burnt orange color to… the color of the atomic bomb on the posters. Bombshell!
As I said, the cast did get to do some interviews – apparently, they moved up the time of the premiere just so the cast could do some last-minute interviews. The cast spoke to each other beforehand about what they would do once the strike was called, and they made a point of walking away from the premiere at the same time. Matt Damon was especially vocal about his support for his union, even though Deadline Hollywood tried to make it sound like he was against the strike. (Minor update: Deadline deleted their original tweet which was an incomplete quote from Matty D, but now they’ve updated it.)
#Oppenheimer star Matt Damon on SAG-AFTRA going on strike: “If our leadership is saying that the deal isn’t fair, then we gotta hold strong until we get a deal that’s fair for working actors. It’s the difference between having healthcare and not for a lot of actors, and we gotta… pic.twitter.com/wPjEKn9iSe

I saw people on Twitter who were saying they’re going to see Oppenheimer in the theater just because of the ballsiness of the cast walking out of their own premiere.
Fun Fact: I watched the whole of White Lotus 2 thinking that Florence was the PA. Lol
Lolol I could see that!
This might be my favorite look ever on Flo, although when she accessorized with a cocktail, that was hilarious. She matches the explosion and Emily looks like she dressed as an homage to the mushroom cloud.
I agree with all you said. I love the first pic and the last. But head on view, the second picture, the dress’ bodice needed some extra work. It does her chest no favors. And Emily looks like she is going for a flapper look.
But Florence’s whole fashion vibe seems to be wearing the hell out dresses that should in theory only be worn by rail thin willowy fashion models. She’d be fairly boring if she worried about dresses doing something for her bust.
@Concern Fae I’m all for subverting the fashion status quo. But I don’t think it’s necessary to eliminate good tailoring. The issue with the bodice has nothing to do with her size. All clothes, especially when they’re customized, should be well-tailored.
As the prem itself she saved Emily when her to top button went pop on its own
Cillian fascinates me. He can either be sexy as with Peaky Blinders or give creepy serial killer vibes.
Heh. His performance in the thriller Red-Eye is both–and is straight up wonderful. That’s where I first noticed him.
Emily’s look here is a *much* more successful effort to get a 1940’s vibe in her look. I’m not wild about the fringe, but overall she looks great.
Sigh. It’s SO close to being perfect. I love the rich color and sheen of the fabric but the top portion is just not quite the right fit. I love the short hair on Florence, though. She has the perfect face for that haircut and color.
It’s like the designer stopped working midway through. I get that Florence is going to wear whatever she wants but there is such a consistency in choosing things that don’t fit well that it feels bizarrely purposeful to wear ill-fitting clothes.
Every. Single. Time. the fit is off. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Florence looks STUNNING. Full stop. I’m so glad they walked out and I appreciate Matt making it clear that it’s about solidarity with the 98% of the union who aren’t mega celebrities and truly depend on the healthcare and retirement benefits. This is what unions are about and why they matter. I just saw Fran Drescher’s speech and her passion and frustration were palpable. This SAG strike is historic in multiple ways and will change the landscape moving forward in the age of AI.
I know we’re not supposed to say things like this but someone please give Matt Damon a brow lift.
Nice, great color. Love the hairstyle too.
I love the color but not the style of Florence’s dress. Emily looks nice.
Emily’s new face looks like Georgina Chapman’s old one. I like Flo’s dress better than most things she wears, but I’m still not a fan of so much sternum in an outfit.
Is that what’s different? She has a new face? She’s very round, or something, all of a sudden. I wondered if she was bloated or jet lagged or on meds because she looks so different to me
I love both Emily’s and Florence’s dresses. Matt Damon also seems to be a consistently well-spoken and stand-up guy when it comes to these types of issues — cheers to him.

No, he is not, do you not remember the metoo movement? Where he mansplains sexual assault and harassment to women and how he would tell women when they are being assaulted. Also, him shutting down Effie Brown black woman when she was dismissing a colleague’s concerns about the need for diverse hiring practices.
I meant Matt was dismissing Effie Brown when she was discussing concerns about the need for diverse hiring practices.
I look at FP like 😍 every time.
Anyone else sick of seeing everybody’s midriff? Just me? Love the color on Flo’s gown. I wish Emily would stop with the blonde hair when she looks so much more alive with auburn or even just brown.
I’ve read before that she’s a natural blonde which is crazy because the blonde somehow always looks unnatural on her. It just really washes her out so much.
Matt Damon’s people must have had words with Deadline, as they should. The original tweet was an unconscionable misrepresentation of what he said.
It’s apparently a pattern with Deadline on this issue

Florence looks OK, not good but not bad either. There are so many great stylists out there who can change her fashion game but she’s friends with her stylist so that won’t be happening anytime soon.
She keeps getting dragged for her awful red carpet style all over internet and her PR team keeps releasing articles about how iconic her red carpet style is LMAO. I mean…has anyone ever achieved ‘fashion girl’ status without serving? Miss Flo needs to be fr now.
Matt Damon in the video was hard to look at. The immobile brows combined to the moving top of the forehead makes it look like he can’t see clear with the forehead bottom being so stiff and heavy on his eyes. I wanna be holding everything up for him.
Not gonna lie, CM and FP are giving me those “vibes” 😬 I am sure I am just reading into it, the body language 🔥.
Not for nothin’ but CM and FP giving off 🔥 body language together 😬 Maybe it’s just me though.
Love Flo’s haircut and the dress. She is fire!
