Everything we hear about royal patronages this year is that there are too many patronages and too few full-time working royals. It’s even worse than that, though – two of working royals are lazy as f–k. Prince William and Kate are not eager-beavers, they are not nose-to-the-grindstone people. They barely do one or two events a week, and Kate focuses most of her events in a ten-mile radius of Adelaide Cottage. Plus, Kate likes a nice long summer vacation of two-to-three months, plus she takes vacations whenever her kids are out of school. All of which to say, if you are looking to Kate to take on more patronages, you’re going to have to bribe her with hot sailors, buttons and wiglets. *raises finger to ear* Wait, what’s that? I’m hearing that the Royal Thames Yacht Club has prepared those exact bribes.
The Princess of Wales has been tipped to take over a major new role from King Charles – but she has to make the first move if she wants it. The Royal Thames Yacht Club is pinning their hopes on Kate Middleton, 41, becoming their new Commodore after parting ways with Prince Andrew in 2021. The organisation, which is based in Knightsbridge, is Britain’s most famous yacht club and its previous royal patrons included Lord Mountbatten and Prince Philip.
After the Duke of York stepped down due to his links to Jeffrey Epstein, the patronage was passed to King Charles – who currently holds the title of Commodore. But according to the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden, the club has its sights set on Kate – who is a known sailing enthusiast.
Earlier this week, the yacht club held a new ‘Women Who Rock the Boat’ event during Cowes Week on the Isle of Wight to ‘encourage women in the sailing world’.
Describing how the royal would be an excellent fit, a senior member of the club said: ‘Kate would be a great role model. But the trouble is, royal protocol dictates that it’s up to her and the Royal Family to make the first move.’
As such, the decision needs to come from within the institution – rather than the yacht club approaching the Palace with the suggestion.
[From The Daily Mail]
Is that really the rule, that the palace has to approach the charity or organization? I think it’s probably the rule in this case because King Charles is currently the “Commodore,” even though he’s shown little to no interest in boats, sailing, yachting or sailors (he did serve in the Navy, for whatever that’s worth). Now, I actually do believe that being a royal patron to a yacht club would be right up Kate’s alley. She would love it, she could wear her beloved navy-and-white striped shirts (she has 20 of them), she could hang out with hot sailors, she could do Sporty Kate photo-ops on boats. All of which is why she probably won’t contact them or make an effort here. Sorry, Royal Thames Yacht Club! You just got keen’d.

The jokes write themselves.
Smh…
LOL, if she became their patron she would go once and then lost all interest in sailing, kind of Wimbledon. As soon as something becomes work she resists it. But maybe she does want it and she’s sending a message to Charles in the press?
Because yeah, I think the issue here is that charles is currently the Commodore, so he has to actively hand the position to Kate and I don’t think he wants to. Maybe she has decided this is a shiny fun patronage and she wants it.
I actually think this would be a good fit for kate and that she would probably enjoy it. She seems to love these sporty-do-nothing engagements so it’s very possible she’s sending messages to Charles through the press.
If Kate really wanted this one charles would have it over. There was even discussion of her taking it over in 2021 but she stayed quiet on that one.
That said, her interest in sailing is more for holidays and flirting with Ben Ainslie. That photo of her sailing with her ring on is so stupid it’s not even funny. When lines run at high speed, the last thing you should be wearing is a ring that can get caught up in it. Serious sailors don’t wear rings, much less gaudy ones that are a safety hazard.
Keen Kate can grin absurdly and mug for the cameras. The enthusiast for sailing dropped out of the dragon boat race when will ended the breakup. I wonder if taking on the patronage would be too racing for her.
Too taxing for her.
Wait. Yacht girl?
ohhhhh, the irony.
Yes the irony is right. She has been a yacht girl. I don’t think that is what they are looking for but you never know.
Right? Even Irony is like “really?”
“You just got keened”
I don’t know why that cracked me up so hard but it totally did! 🤣
Me too, and it’s been added to my vocabulary. It’s kind of perfect.
Well if she gets it we will all be keened, because she will count this as work.
How long can she make hanging out with hot young sailors her thing before she looks ridiculous? She is starting to give off the embarrassing “cool mom” vibes of my college roommate’s mother, who vanished during parents’ weekend only to be discovered down the hallway in some male students’ room flirting with them before accepting and chugging a Milwaukees Best.
Oh goodie. Kate would get to wear her white flared shorts and black and white jumper that made it’s appearance shortly after Meghan wore white shorts and a black and white top to Harry’s Santa Barbara polo match.
If the members of the Yacht club happen to be mainly aristos, I don’t think Kate wouldn’t be that keen to be its Patron. Plus, since it’s being put out there in the press b (is Richard Eden a member?) the likelihood of Kate being the Patron are slim to none now. I suspect that the Palace will make an announcement regarding some of the Queen’s patronages sometime after the anniversary of her death.
Does KP really want Kate’s previous sobriquet of Yacht Girl come back into prominence? It will if she takes this patronage.
Taking on another royal patronage, prestigious as it might be, could be too much for the Keen one. She’d be expected to do regular events like the recent Cowes Week, which is in the middle of their vacations.
The events with Ben Ainslie were one-offs, where she could decide whether to find the time for it, but CW is one of several events with a longstanding tradition.
And BA is, as far as I remember, not a member of the RTYC*, so that’s a strike against them.
* Our sailing club is a reciprocal club, meaning we can use their facilities in different ports or at the HQ in London, especially the lodging, (overlooking Hyde Park!). There’s always a long waiting list, unless we want to stay in winter. Then people seem to have forgotten all about it. Good if one wants to do some Christmas shopping…
Yeah the whole “woken who rock the boat” event would have been a perfect opportunity for her to attend. But she doesn’t care to work and her vacation is always heavily guarded.
Ok then.
OMG can you not hear the squeals of delight, and the screaming of “William, William, how many buttons does a commodore wear, how many medals can I wear and other, William, William how many hot, oops sorry, able seamen look after a commodore, and William, as a commodore, will I get my own yatch? And William, what is a commodore?? 🤣😂
Now you’ve got me thinking and I wonder how he feels about this. We all know he’s as petty as Charles so would this ‘title’ bother him if she got it?
On paper I agree this would be a great fit but Wimbledon would probably like to have a word with the yacht folk if they genuinely think she would ‘work’ for them once she got this title.
Yeah yeah just right for the fool. Cosplay and wiglets galore and gaping maw. Can’t wait lol.
Once a yacht girl, always a yacht girl. Lol, 😉
This whole fantasy comes from a senior member after a ladies night or something? Or maybe straight from Waity mom. It’s amazing how many patronages have absolutely nothing to do with charity. Waity would actually love this one, no pretending to be there to do some good or meet people in need. The royals all love and jockey for any military or sporting patronage. It’s been proven that they don’t bring any extra money to charities, but what in the world does a yacht club need a royal patron for?
Maybe just maybe if Kate does this the drivel and lies spread that Meghan was a yacht girl will stop
