Prince William & Kate’s CEO scheme will just ‘add another layer of bureaucracy’

Buckingham Palace is not happy about Prince William and Kate’s big scheme to hire a CEO for Kensington Palace, that much is clear. You know who else isn’t happy? Royalists and royal reporters. It’s really funny to watch as they question whether “hiring a CEO” is somehow woke or too American or too much like the Sussexes. Even worse than those crimes, William and Kate appear, yet again, to be too lazy and stupid to actually manage their own office. As royal historian/biographer Christopher Andersen points out, the only thing a Kensington Palace CEO will do is add yet another layer of bureaucracy to an already toxic environment:

Christopher Andersen, author of “The King,” warned Fox News Digital that the hire of a CEO could risk competition with the king’s office. However, it’s noted in the job description that the CEO must align the couple’s priorities with those in support of the king and his wife.

“I’m sure William and Kate think they are helping Charles ‘streamline’ the monarchy by creating this new post of CEO, but of course, all they are doing is adding another layer of bureaucracy,” Andersen explained.

“It’s bad enough that the private secretaries and deputy private secretaries for all the royal households – the ‘Men in Gray,’ Princess Diana called them – spend so much time jockeying for position and trying to get the upper hand,” he shared. “They have always wielded all the power behind the scenes – even the king defers to them, just as his mother Queen Elizabeth II did. Now they will have someone above them reporting directly to the Prince and Princess of Wales – a person who will almost certainly set about building their little empire within palace walls.”

“This is a recipe for even more backstabbing and intrigue,” Andersen alleged. “I think William and Kate should stick to the basics – just do what they’ve done in the past, only more so. They already have the key to success. They know what they’re doing. As the saying goes, don’t fix it if it ain’t broke.”

Andersen believes the title of CEO is “woefully misguided” because it’s “intended to make the monarchy sound more business-efficient.”

“People don’t want to be reminded that ‘The Firm’ is exactly that – a multibillion-dollar moneymaking enterprise,” said Andersen. “The term ‘CEO’ is rather cold-blooded. People want to cling to the illusion of history and romance that is the essence of the British monarchy.”

[From Fox News]

“People want to cling to the illusion of history and romance that is the essence of the British monarchy” – except William and Kate are too busy copying everything Harry and Meghan do because they want to have Meghan and Harry’s popularity, money, fame, style and global profile. William and Kate want to have all of that without actually doing the work though – they think they can throw money at their problems and hire a CEO to “solve” everything. Anyway, Andersen is absolutely right that a CEO will just add another layer of bureaucracy and shenanigans. Now, I do believe a CEO will be hired. I just think that the person won’t last very long, because they’ll take one good look at the utter clownshow of Kensington Palace and think “you want me to negotiate wigs and buttons with a gopher??!”

  1. This CEO will be Pegs other scapegoat. The only requirement really is to say yes to everything Peg wants and when it all goes wrong (which is par for the course with Peg) Peg will blame whoever is dumb enough to take the position. Got my popcorn and drink ready for these new shenanigans.

100%. Yesterday a brilliant commenter pointed out that they’re really hiring another Harry – someone “low ego” to do all the work and take none of the glory.

If Charles can’t stop this from happening then I agree with Kaiser that the CEO won’t last more than 6 months. Even still, actively choosing to privatize your own palace is such self-defeating idiocy it may be Will’s dumbest move ever.

  2. Suzanne says:

OMG, Kaiser – do you write books by any chance? Novels? Your way with words is hysterical and awesome at the same time. I just spit out my coffee at – “you want me to negotiate wigs and buttons with a gopher??!” It made me laugh out loud. And you are so right on. They are trying to copy Harry and Meghan all the time. It’s so sad.

  3. ThatsNotOkay says:

They want a CEO, because there’s no one above a CEO in a business. Except…the PRESIDENT, or in this case, would-be-king. It elevates them even higher. And their egos need to be elevated even more for their sense of self worth. It’s like a drug. The rich trying to out-rich each other, out-important one another.

    • RoyalCommoner says:

This other CEO layer is just so that someone else can do whatever they were supposed to do and everybody will need to report to that 1 person so they won’t have to waste their vacation time dealing with lots of staff. They are supposed to be the ones running the show. But they’re too incompetent and lazy so, we’re gonna be stuck watching them suggest stupid ideas like that demonstrate how incapable and again, how LAZY they are

    • Emme says:

But a CEO over SIXTY staff? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • BeanieBean says:

Nope. I checked the actual job announcement. The person hired will report to the Principal Private Secretary of W&K.

  4. girl_ninja says:

What do they need a CEO for though? If they’re going to bring someone in to run things like a CEO would run a business, then that IS smart. But like Kaiser (and all of us for that matter) has stated They. Don’t. Work.

I still say they’re doing this because they have friends who have CEOs for their estates or whatever, and they think it will get them (Wills) out of going in. I also think they came up with the personality requirements based on Harry.

I also wonder if adding to the chaos and intrigue is the point. Anderson seems to believe you automatically set up fiefdoms when you’re in charge, what better way to slow down the “work” getting done and make things harder for Charles than to set off a war of the men in gray.

This whole quote perfectly nails a lot. Anderson would probably do better if he just told the truth about things- “People don’t want to be reminded that ‘The Firm’ is exactly that – a multibillion-dollar moneymaking enterprise,” said Andersen. “The term ‘CEO’ is rather cold-blooded. People want to cling to the illusion of history and romance that is the essence of the British monarchy.””

So “they know what they’re doing”, but they don’t know what they’re doing in hiring a CEO?

  7. MSTJ says:

I like this story. Finally a royal sycophant delivered assessment that is not embellished.

    The ‘Men in Black’:
I’m so thankful that Princess Diana and Prince Harry spoke up about how the palace works and who are the people responsible for the machinations behind the scenes. Spare is such a tome. More and more it demonstrates Prince Harry’s master stroke in the process of his exit. It will become an eminent historical reference for scholars along with the documentaries and interviews he has done. It will be paired well with his mother’s accounts of her experiences in the institution.

    Legacy:
Harry and his mother will have a lasting legacy well beyond QEII. Although they are heirs, his father and brother will be secondary characters in his story, despite whatever shenanigans William performs imo. I believe whatever William does it will always be assessed as a reaction to what Harry has done or achieved. William has essentially tethered himself to Harry. His NY trip is a good example, not the only one but the latest one. ✅

I’m happy to malign W&K all day long, but I really think they’re in a bind here. Of course, they’ll never admit it, but I think they’re realizing the road blocks that Meghan faced in getting anything done and done properly. Basically, the monarchy is like if Disney World was run by the Mafia – the façade has to be all happy and mythical – and behind the scenes it’s a giant corporation full of back stabbers.

    • Jais says:

Like if Disney world was run by the mafia…I mean sometimes it feels like Disney is run by a corporate mafia but you’re comparison still works😂

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Eurydice, I wonder if the CEO will be able to fire those that either cannot or will not do the work they’re paid to do? This could get interesting. I don’t how they’ll find someone for this position, because it will not be pretty for anyone named CEO.

  9. Jay says:

Ooh, the palace- on-palace violence is getting quite snarky! It was clear from theis CEO’s job description that it will add a layer of bureaucracy (i.e. protection from responsibility, blame if things go wrong) to KP. That’s the whole point!

And whether or not people want to be reminded that the Windsors head up a multimillion dollar organization, it’s true! And many of those millions come from the taxpayers and are being poorly overseen with very little return on investment.

As for the idea that the monarchy doesn’t need fixing cuz it ain’t broke? Public opinion would say otherwise. People don’t keep the Windsors around because of some romantic notions – it’s inertia and apathy, mostly.

Finally, the idea that the Wails should just keep doing the same thing, but more of it – theirin lies the problem! They are not willing to do more.

  10. aquarius64 says:

KP CEO is the new fall guy or girl for the Waleses shenanigans. The job may not be filled because everyone knows how the BRF pay people who work for them.

  11. Becks1 says:

The CEO thing is just weird. Like what are they going to do that isn’t being done already? Manage Kate’s wig collection? Manage the divorce? Manage everything so W&K can just disappear for months at a time (oh wait, they already do that?)

Its clear Charles’ camp does not like this idea at all so will be interesting to see this play out.

    • Nic919 says:

The more they keep reminding people that the family is really a business, the more they will be expected to do other things that businesses do, including paying taxes. The current system is not perfect and could be improved, but ultimately if your future head of state can’t be arsed to take a leadership role, why would you want him to lead the country?

Charles was able to run the duchy quite successfully without all this.

  12. Mary Pester says:

So Mr Anderson has admitted there is a toxicity within the Royal family., and don’t we know it! The CEO, is going to get pretty sick pretty quick when he sees all the egos at play. Bully boy, keen, camzilla, Charlie, then we have the different mandarins jockeying for power. It’s the recipe for a nervous breakdown on steroids! Kate will demand positive briefings, William will demand briefings on his “statesmanship”, Charlie will demand briefings on William and camzilla will demand briefings on EVERYONE. Then William and Kate will demand new “ideas”that are THEIRS. Then William will demand 24 hour, 7 days a week inside information on everything Harry, Kate will demand 24 hour 7 days a week undercover work on Megan’s wardrobe, and Charlie, Charlie will disappear into the mists of Scotland and forever roam the hills wondering where he went so wrong.and also wondering why he has got such a massive tax bill, when after all, they are an institution not a business 😂🤣😂

  13. Amy Bee says:

For once Andersen is correct. The press seems to be preparing the smear that person and it wouldn’t be surprising if William and Kate hire Jason Knauf to keep the press on their side.

  14. VilleRose says:

Wasn’t Kate once described as a Top CEO in that infamous “Catherine the Great” Tatler article? Or was that a different one? I know some stuff was deleted from the original article and so I just reread it and couldn’t find the Top CEO comments anywhere. But if they can’t find anyone to fill the position, they can just have Kate pretend to be the CEO because she’s very good at doing that.

  15. Jais says:

Curious how much they’ll pay their top ceo. Assuming it should be equivalent to what other ceos make but the Windsors are cheap AF so good luck finding that low ego candidate if they’re low-balling the salary.

  16. QuiteContrary says:

“This is a recipe for even more backstabbing and intrigue,” Andersen alleged.

So the palaces are filled with backstabbing and intrigue? I thought they were happy places, where the servants and aides sang as they worked, and Princess Kate sprinkled fairy dust over everyone … until that mean old Meghan came along and ruined everything!

  17. jferber says:

They want to do less, if that’s even possible. Just like some of us swear there were fake Melanias (and I’m sorry to say I’m one of them), there will now be fake Will and fake Kate making appearances for the couple while they are on other sides of the Earth on vacation, separately. This way clones could squash the divorce rumors. Would anyone put it past them?

  18. Robert Phillips says:

I think that William does know that he isn’t liked by anyone. And that he might not end up as King. So he wants a CEO so they can fire all the courtiers. Because they have dirt on William. So he can’t do it. His problem is that anyone who is good at their job isn’t going to put up with William either.
