I think very highly of Rachel McAdams’ beauty. She is truly a gorgeous woman, and she could easily rule every red carpet she ever walked. Unfortunately, Rachel has something of a styling problem. It’s not like she’s got Rihanna’s stylist or anything like that, someone who cosigns whatever crazy, hormonal “let’s shave half of my hair off and rock it” sort of thing. But Rachel’s stylist does cosign some sketchy stuff. Take this whole look, from the London premiere of Sherlock Holmes Monday night. Rachel looks pretty, yes. But… off. I think it’s the hair. Big up front with a loose braid? This dress (by Andrew Gn) could have had done with a classic chignon. Or even just have the hair loose. The makeup is flawless, though. It just goes to show how difficult it is to f-ck up when you’re working with a face like that.
Once I saw the January cover for Vogue, I did develop another theory about Rachel, though. Maybe the hair issues on the red carpet last night were about her not knowing what to do with sketchy extensions? Because on the cover of Vogue, Rachel is rocking a really cute, cropped, punked-out ‘do. I like her better as a brunette, but the cut is lovely. Considering the Vogue shoot was probably a couple of months ago, Rachel has probably gotten extensions since then, probably for a movie, and she doesn’t know what to do with them.
No interview excerpts have come out from Vogue yet, but Rachel was interviewed by Total Film Magazine (via Showbiz Spy) about her supporting role in Sherlock Holmes, and her success in films thus far. Rachel said: “There’s a balance of some hand guiding you somewhere, and at the same time your own free will and taking the bull by the horns. I do think it’s a combination of the two that gets you wherever you are. And I think there’s a little bit of control, but not much!” Rachel also says she got the role in holmes because she “hunted Guy down and camped on his doorstep until he relented! OK, no, we had a chat in a garden and it went from there… Fortunately, it worked out for me.” Sweet girl.

I have the exact opposite opinion!
I LOVE the messy braid and really do not like the Vogue cover at all!
I don’t mind the blonde, she looks good on the Vogue cover.
If she’s going to go with extensions, she has to be more careful about how she wears her hair, especially since it seems to look like the extensions are layered. That braid is too messy for the dress, there’s hair sticking out all over.
Yeah, she’s gorgeous but I think she’s going to have Natalie Portman syndrome. She has such young-looking features and she’s so tiny, it’s hard to imagine her in a role as a mom or even a movie where the character is the same age she is. She always looks about 18 to me.
definetly blonde
Love the braid!!! Dislike Vogue cover! It makes her look old as opposed to the freshness on the carpet picture.
I think she looks lovely.
I disagree Snowball, in that top picture she looks like a gorgeous adult, almost like Robin Wright. But I agree that there are many young actresses who will have that problem, mainly because of their irritating voices.
I love Rachel McAdams and one of the main reasons is because she always leaves me wanting more. I don’t see her very often, she’s not a fame whore and I think she’s incredibly talented. I think if anyone could take over as America’s Sweetheart, it’s her. Though I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.
That hair is atrocious (and I prefer her brunette, too, hello, roots!), but man, if there was anyone whose beauty could overshadow it, it’s her.
That hair on the cover does not do her any favors, though. It’s like hair you’d see on a mom trying to be ‘down with it’. I think it’s the combo of the hair and the outfit.
both styles look blonde to me! The braid is a dirty dark blonde. maybe im crazy
I think she looks lovely. That cover hair is scary bad though. I like her as a redhead, too.
@ dude – You’re right, both styles are blonde in these pix. She’s a natural brunette (if I’m not mistaken) and has been in a few movies (Wedding Crashers, for one) with brunette hair.
I really enjoy her work and think she’s a beautiful woman. Having said that, blonde hair and brown/black eyebrows is never a good combination. It’s like wearing white socks with black shoes. She’s better than that! 🙂
she looks great! i agree, sol and hs – hate the vogue cover and love her red carpet look.
I love Rachel and she can do no wrong even if she showed up in a GaGa outfit. and that is my final word.
I love her hair here, my first reaction was to try it.
She’s like Julia Roberts. She can do any hairstyle, any color, with that face.
This style was popular back in 1986.
One of the few women who can rock a lipstick that bright.
I think Rachel McAdams is one of the most beautiful women in hollywood. Her career seems really promising as well–GO RACHEL!
I think she could upgrade her glam factor. She looks like she could slim down and work out her arms don’t look toned. I don’t like the rust colored lipstick with the grey dress and it makes her look wide. The short haircut looks office like not edgy. She could do better. I don’t see anything wrong with women in Hollywood conforming to the standard of beauty which means to be slim and toned, they get paid a lot of money to look good for the public.
The braid says it all-it says that while she may have to dress the part, not all of her soul is owned by the ‘business’!
The cover to me looks like it was taken in the nineties. That hair, the little cardigan, the pink lipstick with the red pants… Surely it’s too soon for ’90s retro?
Oh diva, you’re hilarious! Er…that was a joke, right?
Love the braid and the blonde
i like the braid thing shes got going on in the first photo. cant imagine it on anyone else before seeing his not even her but she makes it work.
@meaux ITA. If that post is for real, well… That’s just scary. If Rachel slimmed down she’s become invisible!
