Rachel McAdams was blown away by Lindsay Lohan’s acting chops

I just finished reading the complete cover profile of Rachel McAdams in the January issue of Vogue, and I feel pretty comfortable saying that she’s probably one of the most well-adjusted actresses ever. She’s breezy and nonchalant without seeming jaded. She’s engaged with her fellow actors without looking like a famewh-re. She even tells a complimentary story about Lindsay Lohan, from when they worked together on Mean Girls. If it was anyone else being nice to a Lohan, I would suspect foul play. But with Rachel, she just seems… well, nice. Here’s the full Vogue profile, and here are some of the highlights:

On Mean Girls and Lindsay Lohan: “I just remember marveling about how much she knew as an actor, how much she understood. She did very few takes and had this naturalness to her. And beyond that, I was 26 at the time. I’d be asked, ‘Where do you go out?’ ” (McAdams throws her hands up in bafflement and defeat.) “I felt like I was in a different place at that time.”

On material items: “I don’t really desire things. I prefer to spend my money on experiences, on meals or travel.”

On environmentalism: “I look at the world through a green lens now, but you can’t make yourself crazy. That feeling of green guilt can be really inhibiting. It’s about a changing mind-set, remembering to turn off the water when you are brushing your teeth.”

On her television habits and education: “I grew up watching so much television. I was really into soap operas. I’d begin with Days of Our Lives, then Another World, and finish off with General Hospital. And before dinner I’d watch Oprah. I would fake sick all the time to the point where I’d convince myself I was sick. In high school I really didn’t pay attention. I took the bare minimum to get by.”

On her own appearance: “My mother never put an emphasis on looks. She let us grow up on our own time line. She never forced any beauty regimen into my world.” McAdams was teased in high school for not shaving her legs. “Why didn’t you tell me?” she asked her mom. Mom: “Once you start, there’s no turning back.”

On dating: “The first thing Diane [Keaton] always asks me is about my love life. I thwart her as I do everyone else… for eighteen years I knew where my chair was at the dinner table every night; my life was incredibly secure… I’m pretty good on my own, and I like just getting out and walking, which seems very rudimentary.”

Diane Keaton is quoted again and again in the piece, and I kind of think Keaton may view Rachel as a daughter. Rachel could hardly do worse as far as role models go, so I approve. Also, Rachel does basically admit that she and Josh Lucas are no more, which was reported back in August, but never confirmed. At one point, it looked like they were going to move in together. I wonder what happened? Maybe she and Ryan Gosling will get back together… maybe. Don’t get your hopes up, though!

I think you mean she “could hardly do better” than to have Diane Keaton as a role model. Not “worse.” Hey, it’s early.

Why would you suspect foul play if someone was complimentary to Lindsay Lohan? She may have some serious problems right now, but remember Lindsay did reach very high in the business, and she could only have done that if she had some talent. (Well there are other ways I guess, but as she was so young, I would go with talent that got her there.)

Lindsay does have some serious issues to deal with, but there is always a possibility she can make a comeback, after all Britney Spears did it, of course Britney was kind of forced into it, and I am not sure they really got her the help she needed, but that is another story. The point, is Lindsay did have some talent that others in the business recognized, and if she can get the help she needs to overcome her demons, like others before her, she can make a comeback, see Robert Downey Jr. (He is at the top of the list, but there are others with less talent who came back.)

    I like her!! Regina rules!!

  4. diva says:

Now Lindsay will be tweeting her all the time and making up stories about how they are going to be working together. She probably should have left the Lindsay story out.

  5. Maritza says:

She is beautiful. I wonder why it didn’t work with Ryan Gosling? I thought they were such a lovely couple.

  6. Dorothy says:

    LOL Diva!

  7. Mrs.Darcy says:

Love her but hate the blonde hair and most of the photo shoot – awful cover shot especially.

  8. Neelyo says:

That’s funny. On some E! special on MEAN GIRLS a producer or someone spoke about how they weren’t sure if they wanted Linsday to play her character or Regina George. Rachel McAdams came in to audition for Regina and was so good that she truly intimidated Lindsay.

Lindsay may have had more film experience at the time, but I think Rachel was always the greater talent and very classy to defer to the Ragged One like that.

And Diva, Lindsay’s probably called Rachel already.

  9. Melanie says:

Wow, I admire her matter-of-factness. I wish she and Ryan Gossling would get back together. They’re both so pretty! Although, I could see how their actual feelings might get in the way of that.

  10. MsTriste says:

Lindsay didn’t have to act for ‘Mean Girls’. She was just being herself.

  11. Ana says:

I miss the old Lindsay Lohan. She was a good actress back in the day! Well, for that genre, she was no Meryl Streep.

    I love Rachel’s figure!! I wish I had it!

  12. apsutter says:

I love her!! She’s so adorable and wish she was in a ton more movies…I also want that red dress with the belt and those red shoes like now!!! I’m totally the same way as her, I much prefer vacations and having new experiences to buying things

  13. juiceinla says:

Not sure why, she strikes me as fake everytime. I just can’t seem to like her, but do I believe she had nice things to say about Lindsey from the Mean Girls days- sure. Different Lindsay, different time. Sad.

Whomever gave Lolo her first snort ought to be forced to repetitiously watch that stupid stripper movie she did into perpetuity, like a hollywood Sisyphus, along with everyone else who has enabled her.

saddest waste of talent Hollywood has seen, maybe ever.

  14. Sarah says:

She is ridiculously beautiful. Absolutely love her. No matter what the photo shoot, she’s always lovely.

  15. Emma says:

She’s not fake. She’s as genuine as they come. I had the pleasure of meeting Rachel in an airport and she was so sweet. We chatted about random things, like our destinations and books we were both reading. This girl is so sweet and humble. She’s so not Hollywood.

  16. maybe says:

I love her; she looks beautiful all the time.

  17. Emily says:

Oh, I love the photo with the pink dress, and the red one where you can see her shoes. HOT. And she always comes across as such a sweetie.

  18. NicoleAM says:

She’s looks beautiful as always! Seems like a real sweetheart!
(I admit Lindsay’s higher on the talent ladder than, say, Paris Hilton, but I never thought of her as exceptional. Her “big” roles were mostly teen fare. On the other hand, Ellen Page nails it every time in every role. Nevermind Juno, rent Hard Candy, The Tracey Fragments and An American Crime.)

  19. dovesgate says:

Oooo I love that red dress and those shoes!!

  20. dalia says:

    extraordinarily natural and talented.
Made an excellent couple with Ryan Gossling. I wonder why did they ever think of calling it off. If it takes me forever to write notes on how much I’d love to see them reunite, only to see them reunite. I will do it.
